PSN Content 09/06/07 (Stranglehold & NBA Live demos, Motorstorm & NG Sigma DLC)

I'm almost at 80% on the Stranglehold demo. Is wifi in general just slow as shit or is it the PS3's? I ask because I've got an ethernet cable hooked up to my PS3 now, mainly for Tekken DR, and I've notcied that my download speeds are SO much better on a hardline.

And shit at the 2008 release for SFIIHD.

No one else is pissed at the Motorstorm DLC? Not sure what you paid, but I recall paying 60 bucks for it, and it never exactly felt like 60 dollars worth of content. :lol

Then why in the hell did you buy it?

I just don't understand this...there were plenty of reviews out there that told you exactly what was on the disc, and you decided that content sounded worth the money at the time. If you weren't sure, you should have rented first.

How long have you guys been buying games? You still haven't figured this out?

Now, six months later, they release DLC, which BTW, we've known was coming since they first showed the Playstation Store at E3 2005, and you act all appalled. Please.

:lol

Any ideas on what's causing the download to stop? As soon as I hit 78% my download speed dropped from about 200k/sec (which is slow for me) to below 10.

Same thing just happened to a friend when he hit 78% too.

Well I may just eat my own words, posted last page, and buy the Motorstorm content pack now that I know SFIIHD is so damn far away from being released.

Edit: My download of the Stranglehold demo froze at 76%, pausing and resuming fixed it.

my stranglehold demo has been stuck at 54% for a while now and so is the NBA one at 66%. from time to time, pausing and resuming works, but for like 10 seconds and then it stops.

Yes, plenty of reviews were out - about the version in Japan.

From what I recall, I purchased the game before the majority of the reviews hit for the US version, and what was the difference? Online.

I assumed with the extra time they had, online would be polished enough to warrant the purchase - it was absolutely fucking terrible on launch.

I act appalled and it's completely justified - thanks.

Well I spoke too soon, I got one whole extra percentile of downloaded data before the download froze again. Pausing and resuming does nothing to kick start the process into action again.

Happened to me too! But then again I've never downloaded this quick after the demo get released..... My download pretty much froze at 55% after going pretty quick in the beginning . Then I paused it and switch to downloading the NBA demo and everything went fine until that one paused too at 30%.

its almost like the demo's/content is still uploading, and they let you download up untill a certain %, upload some more, and let you catch up again :lol

How do you figure? That was the peak of Motorstorm online: hours after the game came out. No one knew the tracks, it was chaos.

@tanod

could you please change united kingdom to europe in your opening post or at least post the money as euros, because you know, we have the euro here in europe.

Think he means the mic system that only worked 10% of the time. Not being able to see your friends. Not having enough time to pick a vehicle.

nba live 08 60fps confirmation?

Didnt play the demo yet but Peter Moore confirmed it is 60FPS.

PM: You'll see it running at 60 frames on PS3. Once the consumer gets that in their hands, the Madden issue will become ancient history. I think you look at any development cycle, and when you've had the hardware as long as the studios have for 360 in relation to what they had for PS3, you've got this normal chronology of getting your hands on the hardware a year later. It's a little bit of a hangover from that. But that's behind us now. By the time we get to November and NBA Live ships--all gone.

OK I've finished the Stranglehold demo.
Impressions:

Graphics are great and frame rate is really smooth, even with a lot of enemies on screen and lots of particle effects the frame rate is absolutely stable. I can't do comparisons with the 360 versions because I've not played it but the PS3 version by itself it's a really great work on the technical side.
The game is a stylish next gen Max Payne, but since people have already played it and there are reviews out there's no need to expand on this, I can say that I like it a lot.
At the end of the demo the hard mode is unlocked, the barrage mode is unlocked and there a few details about the collerctor's edition, it says that the game includes Hard Boiled which supports resolutions from 480p up to 1080p.

I'm pretty sure the 360 ran smoother. Dont have the demo anymore, but I recall it being 60fps most of the time. Here it's 30fps.

For whatever reason I can aim better with the PS3 version.

The 360 ver may run higher than 30, but it's nowhere near 60 fps.

Yup it's 30fps but absolutely stable and smooth.
I was also suprised by the aim precision, I usually hate to use console controllers in this kind of games (mouse FTW) but here the controls are really nailed.

They want money for the Motorstorm DLC? Go fuck yourself, Evolution Studios. All that shit should've been in the retail game I paid 60 bucks for.

If there's anybody who you should be mad at, it should be yourself. You thought the game was worth it when you paid $60 for it.

I still think it was worth it and for what they are charging for the DLC, I think that's worth it as well.

the 360 version was not framerate locked. there were a couple of scenes here and there that were running at 60fps, like the end of the first cutscene or some indoor hallways. the rest of the game runs around 30fps, sometimes even dropping below 30.

the worse thing about the framerate was that it was quite irregular. i'd have prefered a steady framerate locked at 30fps.

i'm still at 57% so i can't say anything about the ps3 version :(

GAH I'VE BEEN STUCK AT 65%!!

No Stranglehold for me tonight it seems. :(
Yeah, my Friday classes are pretty early, so it looks like I'll just let NBA finish and then try Stranglehold out tomorrow.

My downloads are usually extremely quick too...

Well it's the United Kingdom store and that is generally indicative of what is out in Europe. However that's not always the case. I recommend that even if you live in Europe, you should make a UK account as they typically get everything that other countries get. There are too many times when I see people post that certain stuff is not out in their particular country.

That being said, I'd be glad to add euro prices to the OP if somebody is willing to post them.

MotorStorm Revenge Weekend

How does the DLC work? Do I have to purchase the $5.99 pack along with the seperate vehicles?

No. The pack includes everything. If you don't want everything, you can buy just the cars.

No, the pack comes with the vehicles. It says to download the 2.00 update first though.

They're making you pay to race on an old track in reverse.

nope, it's been rebalanced and altered. They have good right to charge for extra development past the shipped product. You knew what you were buying, and if you weren't, as someone said, be disappointed at yourself. It's not like you just buy a car based on looks.

For me, I'm happy with the original product and the additional content is nice. It's a good deal too.

They said in one of the behind the scenes that hey had many more tracks/vehicles finished, that they just decided to scrap for whatever reason.

Balancing, tweaking, there's lots of different and good reasons.

I agree about stable 30fps being better than fluctuating 60fps. Just pointing out one the differences I noticed.

Besides, in the PS3 demo sutscenes are videos not rendered in real time. Dunno why they did this.

Great the first PSN update with my own system is a lemon. Not even a good new wallpaper! :lol I suppose its fine though since there's still a buncha old stuff for me to be downloading from the store.

Where ya located? If your in EU, make yourself up a NA and JP account and get your DL on. Seriously if you factor in being able to download from all territories there are plenty of things to get.

Still working on DL'ing Stranglehold....its at like 65%. Argh.

That turok video is pretty cool...stealth kills look nice.

Stranglehold is TERRIBLE!

The slowdown was so bad I thought my PS3 had given up. Seriously, it must've ran at 5FPS at one point.

The gameplay...ugh, the point and click shooting is so meh...the camera is terrible too. How do you centre it behind you? Ugh. I'm deleting this shit.
