The slowdown was so bad I thought my PS3 had given up. Seriously, it must've ran at 5FPS at one point.
The gameplay...ugh, the point and click shooting is so meh...the camera is terrible too. How do you centre it behind you? Ugh. I'm deleting this shit.

There were only a couple of moments where I saw the game stutter, and it was just that, a stutter and not consistently chugging. The only thing that really stood out was the sound effects, as they all sounded muddy, if that makes sense. I can't recall if the 360 demo sounded the same.

I actually got my lazy ass to download the Bladestorm demo, which is actually pretty damn good for a cabbage-slashing sim. Koei's first game I actually enjoy...
sound balance was really off in the 360 demo, like weird things were quiet and loud. that what you're experiencing?belvedere said:Just played through the demo. Reboot that mug.

Zoe said:Not really a PSN update, but since there's no Mainichi thread, Mainichi Issho got its monthly update:

I haven't played in a while, so I'm not sure, but it looks like:
- New cosplay (like always)
- Walking and Dancing modes at the Myaile shop (Toro will dance to the music you import)
- Zoom Camera at the Myaile shop (can now hold 48 pictures and will do 1920x1080)
The cosplay is bought with real currency. You can get the other things at the Myaile shop by accumulating points through the game.
awesome about the camera update. it means we can take real screenshots now.Zoe said:Not really a PSN update, but since there's no Mainichi thread, Mainichi Issho got its monthly update:

jaundicejuice said:At first Stranglehold just seems like nothing more than Max Payne with the trappings of a John Woo film skinned over top it. But then you start to play around with the environments--be it sliding/running around on stuff or shooting propane tanks (exploding barrels only slicker, leaner, and next gen-er) or objects down on top of the heads of enemies--gaining new abilities, and get to stuff like those bullet dodging mini-games and Stranglehold starts to differentiate itself enough that it simply doesn't feel like a rote experience.
it was pretty damn fun and has me picking through my collection seeing what I could pawn off to get it.

TTP said:I agree about stable 30fps being better than fluctuating 60fps. Just pointing out one the differences I noticed.
Besides, in the PS3 demo sutscenes are videos not rendered in real time. Dunno why they did this.
WickedLaharl said:i cannot believe they released the stranglehold demo as it is. what a fucking horrid framerate when things get hectic. i've hit single digits once :lol. damn, i'd be afraid of buying the game when it comes out in less than a month.

bigswords said:Probably faster seek time to load a movie rather then load in-game assets (notice the civilians are different textures and body types from the badies).
Edit: Wait wait how come some peeps are complaining that the PS3 version of Stranglehold are reporting single digit fps while others are having locked 30 fps?
Well, I didn't have the sound up loud (4am here) so I didn't notice that, but I agree on the rest of what you've said. The controls were pretty bad on the 360 version of the game, and the Sixaxis just makes things even worse.fistfulofmetal said:The most striking difference between the PS3 and 360 demo is the sound. Other than that, there are a few other differences. The PS3 version is lighter, which kind of brings out the faults in the games graphics. The graphics don't look any different, but the faults are more noticeable.
And there's sporadic slow down when things get real hectic, but I can remember that happening in the 360 version as well.
Oh, and the controls don't feel as precise.
It seems a lot of people don't notice bad framerates so much when there's a lot of action going on in games, so I'm guessing that's why? (just in general, from what I've noticed, not specifically Stranglehold)bigswords said:Edit: Wait wait how come some peeps are complaining that the PS3 version of Stranglehold are reporting single digit fps while others are having locked 30 fps?
Jim said:Also, the 360 version demo DEFINITELY also uses the same exact video for the cutscenes (as people picked out in the 360 dem thread). Neither are "real time", you can see video compression artifacts in both. Tons of games do it to mask loading, even whle they use in-game assets and effects.
AltogetherAndrews said:I'm not noticing much slowdown (well, other than involuntary Tequila Time), but the game itself, well it's garbage isn't it? I understand that it's a game designed to be action first and brains second, but the enemies here seem more like flood than human opponents. And going back to the supposed action based part, it doesn't really even succeed there, does it? Wimpy destruction, wimpy gunplay, it's all a fucking half-fart.

jaundicejuice said:I didn't really feel the gameplay much at first myself, it just seemed like Max Hard Payne Boiled but as the demo progressed it began to grow on me.I am going to trade in a whack of games this weekend but I'm unsure if this, Stranglehold, is going to be one of the games I use that credit for.
I'm not as dissapointed in the game as you seem to be, it's definently a 20-30$ purchase for me, but when I think about all of the other games coming out this fall/winter it's kind of hard to justify getting Stranglehold over a few of the other games coming out.
