PSN Content 09/06/07 (Stranglehold & NBA Live demos, Motorstorm & NG Sigma DLC)

Stranglehold demo was boring as hell.
Though the video montage at the end made it seem cooler.

WTF is up the with audio in DD5.1, it's muffled during gameplay.
Voice acting horrible as well. Especially at the end... haha.

There is also new FolksSoul DLC up on the JP PSN, it's a new quest / rare folk / costume for Keats. Unlike the last DLC being for Ellen.

Also Pedobear MK2 has been available for awhile as a free downloadable Folk as well.

I haven't taken the time to read through the thread, so please forgive if this is regurgitated, but as I was about to plop down the $5.99 for the Motorstorm Revenge Weekend addon, my jaw dropped in disgust as I saw that 4 additional vehicles were being sold seperately for a dollar a piece. Come on, they sell us a game for $60 with extremely limited track variety and modes and then when they FINALLY bring out some DLC for the game they have the fucking AUDACITY not to include all of the new vehicles along with it? I'm not gonna let them nickel and dime me myself, so I'm not downloading the content at ALL in protest. This is just as bad as the fucking Horse Armor.

Uhhh, aren't those vehicles the same ones in the DLC pack, just sold seperately for those who don't want to buy the pack? Or am I missing something?

The audio is an embarrassment. I notice all this stuff with my new headphones, but Christ. I mean, I played the Heavenly Sword demo again just now and it's quite literally heavenly...Stranglehold sounds like cat feces.

Framerate wasn't a problem at all for me, it never really slowed down that badly.

Did the 360 version have a Hard Boiled difficulty?

What's the added bonuses they promised?
Why do I have to collect the cranes?

Afer you beat it, you unlock Hard, but Hard Boiled wasn't selectable still.
I may try again later.

I haven't tried the PS3 Stanglehold demo, but the 360 version ran at an uneven 60FPS, dropping every 10 seconds or so down to 30. If the performance on this version is as bad as you guys say it is then we now know why they delayed the PS3 version. I really really hope the final version's not that bad. Not that I would remove my Collector's Edition preorder if it was (Hard Boiled in HD FTW), but I would like to not have to get the 360 version to get a version of the game that's not a god damn jerky slideshow.

The vehicles are included in the $5.99 pack. If you don't want the track or the mode, but you want one of the vehicles you can purchase it separately for $.99

For all the horrible faults of the demo, I didn't spot any framerate issues that were bad enough to register on my scale. And I'm typically pretty picky about that shit. But who knows, my distaste towards the whole experience may be clouding my judgment on this issue.

It's not a jerky slideshow.

And the Motorstorm vehicles come in the pack as well.

I never feel the demo is a full indication of what the game is like.
They have to cut ends here and there to get this to a manageable size for download on consoles.

Stranglehold looked kinda shitty until i lowered the gamma setting a few notches. Looked alot better. The opening trailer gameplay montage was cool. Sound effects were really low quality sounding, like 11khz recorded stuff.

I was getting audio dropouts on scenes that seemed to have heavier load, which is far more annoying than any framerate issues.

Yup the 360 version had Hard Boiled difficulty after you beat Hard difficulty.

But still many questions unanswered. Puzzling!

For the PS3 version for the collectors edition you'll get Hardboiled on Bluray as well.

You collect cranes to fill your Tequila bomb powers on the bottom left. (The powers that allow to heal, barrage, sniper shot, spin attack with doves flying around).

Is it me or is there some new sound effect when you kill guys that wasn't in the 360 demo? Anyways, I played the 360 version god knows how many times and enjoyed it. The framerate fluctuated a lot but was ok. The PS3 is locked to be no more than 30 fps, and maintains it for the most part with minor drops every now and then, but it's mostly consistent. The framerate is easily more consistent than the 360 version even though it peaks at 30. This demo has pretty much sealed that the PS3 version will be good enough and that I won't need the 360 version.

well i enjoyed the Stranglehold demo, gameplay was good and the graphics were okay

i had this weird problem with the audio though, during one of the set action pieces, it was cutting out completely for a few minutes but then it returned, not sure what the problem was

i wasn't even considering this game before, now i might buy it

I have a strange problem with the stranglehold demo.

The sound cuts in and out on my receiver (using fibre optic 5.1) , and it sounds freaking awful as others have mentioned.

I Played some warhawk after and watched some trailers without restarting the ps3 and the sound was normal and didnt cut in and out.

It cuts in and out when there's gunfire like 2x every 10 sec, its fucking horrible.wtf.

I don't know what everyone's complaining about. I didn't really have framerate issues. It just slowed down just a notch when things got really, really intense. Certainly wasn't crawling along at any point.

Ya, I just noticed how bad the audio is. The 360 version didn't sound like this. It's almost sounds like a lower sample rate or something and just sounds weird overall.

Finally just played Stranglehold and Live, Stranglehold I liked. Thought it was cool finding ways to kill the people though it sucks that the enemies don't really move they just stand under the giant objects. Live sucked but what can I expect from EA.

Whoa, I think I know what's weird about the DD mix. It seems like all the audio no matter where it should be is coming out of L, R, LS, and RS and there's no usage of center channel. Can anyone else confirm?

I managed to get the camera to get really close to a watermelon as it exploded and my system literally turned into a slide show. I'm talking about 1 frame a second stuff here. 3 seconds later it went back up to normal. I thought it felt faster when nothing was going on screen. Also, the audio sounds really awful. I know it was mentioned before but seriously, WTF?

I enjoyed the hell out of Stranglehold. Thankfully, I didn't notice any slowdown when the action got heavy. The audio was crap though.

QFT. Regardless the demo itself was a good time.

Even more meh on Stranglehold this time around. I'm a big Max Payne fan, and yet this just leaves me so flat, in MP I felt like a badass in bullet time but in Stranglehold I'm just diving around like a putz trying to shoot guys fast enough.

It's smooth, and looks pretty much the same as the underwhelming 360 demo (which I also uninstalled the second I finished the demo the first time) but I did get a weird slowdown. It only happened twice, and both times I was in a "Tequila Time" dive, getting shot and had a lot of particles in front of me, like an exploding watermelon or something. Then the game almost hiccuped a few times, the frame rate doesn't so much slow down as weirdly stutter for a second and then go on it's merry way, but other than that nothing terribly different. Same weird faces, same over the top destructible shit to shoot.

Even for the goofy HK action movie aesthetic I had to laugh when you're running past a counter with fruit on it and if you brush up too firmly against the counter the fruit EXPLODES. I also had a chuckle after I went to dive over a counter, but because there was a bird cage on it Tequila hopped up about 5 feet straight up then flew over the top of the cage and then down.

Probably is a lower sample rate. They might have cut it back to make the demo download smaller.

The ps3 demo pf strangle hold is sharper. not as much aliasing compared to the 360 demo. thats seems to be about all

i LOL'd

edit: i must've been thinking of another demo earlier because the stranglehold demo on xbl is 1.3gb

Sorry if this is too off topic, but do we know what is going on with the lack of downloadable PS One games? I would buy so many PS One games, that Sony's financial troubles would be over.

What exactly are they waiting for?

Here's what I have noticed about the Stranglehold demo:

-picture is bright, but changing the tv type setting to LCD fixed it for the most part
-textures look a little lower res than 360 demo
-sound IS bad, like its downsampled. lets hope this is just to make a smaller download
-Frame rate is not as stable/high as 360 demo; as reported, will drop low when lots of action or stuff exploding on screen
-control is good, maybe a tad tighter than 360

Overall, better than I feared, but not quite up to the 360 version. I guess I will stick with the PS3 version though for Hard Boiled.

Hopefully Midway will comment on the sound issues, because that was the most glaring problem with the demo.

stranglehold demo is pretty sweet but:

- wtf is with the audio

- the shadows on people's faces were a disgusting mess

- HUGE framerate drops a couple times while playing

this stuff better be fixed for the final game.

according to Tretton (?), or someone from SCE, they are waiting on more PS1 games (and likely some PS2 games) until after the PS store gets a new look/interface/design.

Once the PS store gets re-designed, there will be alot more PS1 games put up.

Too lazy to find a link to the thread right now.

Wow i wasn't excited for stranglehold at all but that demo was fun as all hell. Don't think I'll buy it since the actual story and presentation don't seem to be top notch but the game play is definitely fun.

Agreed...after playing the demo my hype went from like:

Friggen aggravated negative hype with a dash of hate ---> Wow, that was worth a play through or two (although I wouldn't spend money on it).

Seriously...I don't even know why I downloaded the demo I was so turned off by this game. But it just plays right.

Anyone who's into the genre (Max Payne) and/or John Woo, pick this up. This demo WILL increase sales!

PS: Props to this developer for giving a demo of a worthwhile length (cough...Ninja Theory...cough)

Yeah, I know the full game gets the movie on the CE, but they said the demo would feature more than the XBL demo did.

Strange about the cranes. I thought the Tequila powers filled up with fancier kills.

I'll give my little comparison.

I couldn't tell any difference in the visuals between the two other then framerate.

The PS3 version stutters less, but when it does it seems to have a bigger drop.

Overall I'm happy I decided to get the PS3 Hard Bolied Blu Ray collectors edition.

I actually don't *hate* this NBA Live 08 demo. I can actually sort of see myself playing this :lol

But yeah it's considerably dated compared to the 2k series. A lot of the in game conventions feels last gen.

Gilbert is cross eyed when the demo loads during practice :lol

Stranglehold is a gigantic meh for me, the MotorStorm content is awesome though. Eliminator is great fun

WTF is up with Stranglehold?

Gameplay was meh.
Graphics were horrible, as was lighting.
Audio sounded like someone came in and wrapped huge pilliows on all of my speakers.

AND one of the Chinese street signs was spelled wrong. No Chinese VA on the cutscenes either, but some random ones that come out but not spoken by main characters. Though it was pretty funny when one of the women in the croud said "I'll fkin kick you" when some idiot walked into her. Unfortunately that was the best part of the demo.

I didn't have any framerate issues during my first playthrough of the demo. I should go back and play the 360 version just for comparison's sake, I guess. I really want to get the PS3 CE though.
