I just got back from taking my economics test and question 7 was a questions regarding the PSP. Something along the lines of, if a consumer bought a Sony PSP and games for $350 would it raise net import, decrease GDP, or something like that...just thought it was interesting considering the PSP just came out :)

well, to be anal, the unit itself would increase net import, but if the games were published in the US, they'd increase GDP minus the cut that went to sony.

Depends.

If the PSP is utilizing previously underutilized manpower, plant and facilities in Japan, it will tend to raise GDP, but its effect may be minimal if Sony is just shuffling capacity around.

As for net imports, it also depends. For march, it probably would raise net imports into the US because normally, you wouldn't have a major hardware/software launch that would produce a big blip in demand. But in the longer term, if Sony is merely shuffling capacity and cutting back production of ther devices, the net effect is less clear.

And yea, there ought to be an option for selling poorly.
