PSP battery life = FUCKING FIVE HOURS. Is this acceptable?

I found a sealed copy of this in a box full of old junk over the weekend. What's the deal? - I really cannot remember.

You won't buy a PSP anyway, why bitch about the battery life?

I am looking for the actual quote, it maybe by Speevy. The poster said something along the lines of setting the industry standard )for battery life) back a few years. Future handhelds will base battery life off PSP.

Something along those lines. :lol

Considering the battery-life is far longer than the 90 minutes Gamespot is trying to pass off as truthful, and given the amount of stuff you can do with the PSP, I think that quote isn't too far from the truth.

90min at minimun is fine with me..also if its easy to switch battery's then buying a second battery for quick swapping is another alternative but seriously..there arent lot of people that wont be around a electric outlet for more then an hour and half....if your in car then use a electric plug in.,etc

OK the Gamespot 90 minute quote is likely complete shit but I can't believe there are some ppl actually ATTEMPTING to use damage control in the case it was true. 90 minutes IF true would just be totally unacceptable.

I also can't believe there a people that charge their mobile phones every day. WTF? Either your battery is dying, and you should guy buy another one, or your phone bills must be through the roof!

90 minutes is really, really sucky. 3 hours is bad. 6 hours decent. I have a DS. I have a PSP on preorder. :P

3 hours probably would not be good enough for my purposes.... I spend about 90 mins roundtrip on the subway a day and often squeeze some gaming in throuhgout the day. I can just get a second battery / charger for work though, so I guess that would be that problem solved. :lol

"See that's why I love you DCharlie. You're like my light at the end of the tunnel!"

i've played for 2 hours 45 straight - i have 41% charge left - i've now quit, there is nothing left to prove - i'm gonna be way over 3 hours, and i'm going to be shitting all over 90 minutes.

But it doesn't matter - look at this thread, NO ONE IS LISTENING.

I bet in 5 posts time some cockmaster posts something about "90 minutes... wtf?? that's shit... SONY SUCK... .DS FOR Life... Free jizz shower...."

what? 90 minutes?? THATS NOT EVEN ENOUGH TIME FOR ME TO WATCH THE COMPLETE SHOGUN SERIES LOROFLOLS

i could understand the appeal of believing that the psp had no battery life when it was potentially true. i can't understand the appeal of continuing to believe that the psp has no battery life. you might as well convince yourself that all the psps out there are secretly running off dev kits. or that they retail for $500. or...hang on, a psp would cost me $500. :(

My experience is that battery meters are less than accurate. My cell among other devices goes from half to kaput much faster than full to half. Grind the battery down to nuthin' then give us a time. Thx

Wtf guys I just saw that Gamespot article and saw the 90 minutes part of it (like the thread of the title). Man I don't know about you guys but that sure is going to make the PSP bomb in Japan and here too.

90 minutes? GET 4 REAL AND GIVE US A MEAL SONY!!!

He has. Twice. So shut up.

The only way to stop this is to email gamespot and get them to update their site.

I came in late to the thread. I read his last post and it does not describe grinding it down to 0. I replied to that.

In that case I apologise. As you seem to be in a hurry, would you like to take a seat and I'll read the thread to you?

People like you are why this thread is so long without any sense in it at all.

Being late to the thread, wouldn't it have been better to ask him if he had already done that, rather than assume he hadn't?

OMG!!!! Gamespot just broke the most amazing story . . .

"Been wondering where that long cable trailing off of your brand new PSP is going? Well, as you drag that thing through the city streets you'll be happy to know that it's integral to its operation. Apparently, every PSP sold is still connected to PC's running the software back at Sony headquarters. That's right, we even opened up our PSP and found that the only thing in there is the UMD reader to send the game ID code back to the host PC back at Sony HQ. We're somewhat dissapointed that Sony wasn't able to actually include any hardware in the PSP - we are impressed that they included a little space heater inside though in order to provide us with the overheating we're experiencing."

OMG!!!! WTF!!!!! SONY SUCKS!!!! GAMESPOT ROXXERS!!!!!!

In a cryptic way, that was what I was doing. -1 for me for lack of clarity.

No! No read! Anyway many of these threads are so filled with hate and fanboy rants, it usually isn't worth bactracking. Hence, my rashness. My bad.

WTF?! I'm getting mine this week - I don't want no crappy cable snaking out across Siberia to Sony's HQ. I bet it'll get cold and I'll get software freezes.

Elijah Wood is hot.

Not to be one-upped by Gamespot, Spong has now gotten in on the fun:

http://spong.com/detail/news.asp?prid=8100

Reports we have been receiving have placed the power performance at around the three hour mark. All units have been using Namco’s delicious Ridge Racers with speaker sound, and gamers have reported an average of 2 hours and 40 minutes game time. Using headphones, the duration crept up to a shade over three hours and ten minutes.

Ntrolls - "20 second load time???!! I only play my handheld one minute at a time!!!!!"
Ntrolls - "90 minute battery time - how am I supposed to play RPGs and the like???!!!!"
You're missing the point. It doesn't matter for how long you play at a time, it matters whether you can play it for a period of time without having to recharge it. If you're sitting in a car travelling somewhere, it's not as easy to recharge it as when you're sitting on your couch in your home. It needs to last for at least a good number of hours because of this.

thing is - and i'm being deliberately wanky here - i'm off on a 12 hour flight tomorrow - once my DS battery is dead, thats it...

With the PSP , i have taken the stupid approach of having 4 batteries... i at least have the option of swapping in (as shitty as people think 5 hours is)

"Someone is obviously lying... The difference between 3 and 4.5 - 5 hours that people here measured is not small."

there is a big difference between 90 mins and 3 hours too ;)

I just don't get how Gamespot did these tests.

I have a question concerning handhelds in general. Is battery life inversely proportional to the number of times a machine is powered on/off? For instance, assume a fully charged PSP/DS battery lasts 6 hrs if someone plays a game for six hours straight. Would the life shorten to...say...4 hrs if you tend to play in half-hour bursts?

Well it's possible to buy extra batteries for both handhelds right?
My comment wasn't just about the psp though, it was about handhelds in general, I've no idea for instance how long the DS battery life is.

The DS battery life (for me) has been averaging a solid 8 hours.

Yes. Most battery powered devices are the same. Power on is a jump in current (as is the intial load time). Digital cameras don't last nearly as long if you are always switching them on and off.

maybe PSP should have a screen saver that switches the screen off and pauses the game if you have no activity for a couple of minutes. That'd be handy for me when my wife interrupts me YET AGAIN - whats that darling?

I see..that's pretty good I guess, especially compared to that other handheld we keep talking about.

Oh. Why'd you have to post that? Huh?
Because I'm trying to reduce demand on this thing so I can possibly get one at a reasonable price before the year is out ;)

Edit: While I'm no fan of Spong's general approach, two different sites reporting accounts of less than 4 hrs battery life perhaps indicates there's a problem with some PSP batteries out there. Might be more to this than first thought.

I think that for Ridge Racers at max/75 (bright/volume) we'll see an average battery life of 3:45. That's my bet.

i heard some poor kid got decapitated by the UMD thing... dreadful stuff.
I'd steer clear...

You're being mean. I'm saying the AVERAGE across the board. You know, people get different battery life for GBA, for DS...

I know there will be people who get great life from their PSP too. Like you and johnnyram. I'm saying I think the average across the board will be closer to four is all :|
