Sorry to bump this; I got a memory stick today (but can't make a Pandora Battery yet), now I'm itching to look around the PSN store on my PSP. If I update to the latest firmware (so that I can access this stuff) will this mess up my ability to later install CFW? I want something to play on my system :(
Someone is selling Lumines in the FS/T thread for $15 shipped.

Since you have the battery now I think it's ok to update, but I wouldn't make things nay more complicated than they have to be.

Yes you can update to ANY FW version if you have a Phat 1000 series PSP.

The Pandora battery & MS combo is totally independent of what FW is installed on your PSP.

If you are going to use Pandora setup I would advise using newest version M33 ( DC V8?) as it makes a backup of your PSN license.

I've been playing around with the N64 emulator DaedalusX64 Beta 2 and while it is awesome that it runs, I do hope they can get the sound to work and the framerate to be stable.

Anyone here keep up with the latest happenings with DaedalusX64?

I don't have the battery yet. I have this getting here tomorrow.

All information seems to tell me I'll be alright, so I'll go for it.
Let me know how it works out. I'm not interested in hacking the PSP just yet. I have an entire library of PSP games to play, don't need an emulator yet, and don't want to mess with the warranty (I think I have a dead pixel)

Consider hacking for playing your games of the memory stick - faster loading times + the battery lasts longer.

Is there an up to date guide for making a Magic Memory Stick anywhere? I'm on Windows 7 and Rain's UltraLite MMS Maker gives me an IPL eror; "not enough reserved sector space for IPL".

Is your MS a "real" stick or is it a knock-off. You can check by going to the Memory Stick on your PSP, pressing triangle and see if it says MagicGate supported.

Rain MMS Maker looks like it should work fine on Windows 7.

I have a real Sony 8GBer.

I've got it to work. I had to borrow a shitty old Windows XP laptop and run it on that. Seems having a 64 bit OS can cause problems. Finally installing M33 now.

New here... what is a pandora battery?
Do I need it if I want to play homebrew on my PSP?

Here.
A modified battery that helps install custom firmware.
And no, you don't.
You might just need one to install custom firmware though.

So can we call bullshit on the PSP-300 TIFF exploit hack at this stage?

It was meant to be released nearly 2 weeks ago and its all gone completely quiet since.
The proof of concept worked fine for PSP-100 & 2000 but I don't think anyone has of yet unsigned run any code on PSP-3000 due to differences in CPU, etc..

still on a phat here; considering a 2000! is it a particularly nice upgrade and is it easy to make a pandora et cetera from my cfw phat?

yes to both questions. I think going from a 1000 to 2000 is a nice upgrade, at least better than 2000 to 3000, which really isn't much. If you already have a CFW phat then yeah, making a pandora etc for your 2000 should be a cinch.

... I think all the 2000s work except maybe the God of War red one? I dunno about that, you're going to need to double check. I think maybe the GoW and Madden packs don't work, but I could be totally making that up...

Anyone think the reason Dark Alex hasn't released above 5.00 is because he can't crack it? I know he says he doesn't do incremental updates, but by not doing 5.02 he's locking A LOT OF legit users from playing LEGIT games.

I'm getting Persona today in the mail and I'm assuming it will require 5.02 which means I can't play the damn disc and have to rip and remove the firmware check and play off a memory card. At this point when well programmed psp games have almost no load times I'd rather just stick the disc in and play.

Also not being able to play all those great demos Sony keeps putting up on the PSN/PSP store because they require 5.02 is getting annoying.

When PSP-4000 comes out I'll buy one just to have an un-hacked psp to get around these situations.

PS. Is there any way to go back to non-hacked PSP after using hacked firmware? I'm guessing the normal psp updates wouldn't mesh with hacked firmware.

There is, I did it to mine a long time ago. I just recently used a Pandora battery to switch it back. Unless you can go back and forth easily don't do it, you'll regret it. Getting a second, newer one and keeping it on the legit side would probably be nice though.

Hey guys. I have a PSP 2000 model and Firmware 5.03 installed on it. I know I'll need a Pandora battery to get CFW on it but is it possible to get CFW on a PSP that has that particular firmware on it? Sorry for the question but I've just never done this before. I read the first post and I found it a bit complicated.

Most PSP-2000 models work with the Pandora battery, it's pretty much hit or miss as far as I can tell. I have the blue slim that came with madden and it worked fine. If you have a model PSP that works with the Pandora, it doesn't matter what firmware you have.

Only the older PSP-1000 model can have custom firmware put onto it without the Pandora battery, and only on earlier firmwares. 2.80 and above can be hacked with no additional software. IIRC 2.81 requires Lumines, and later firmwares also requires a specific game to hack.

Umm elaborate? I have not heard any reports from anyone concerning this and I would question how you would know this seeing how the PSN version has not been released for another week... so, you have insider information for us?

It's been out in Europe for weeks.

I just got ahold of a PSP 2000, and it has firmware 3.95 installed on it. Is there anyway to downgrade this? I have an unpatched copy of GTA:LCS.

The screen is also a little wonky (some minor scratches). What's the best method to get this off?

I think it is possible, CFW 5.50 is sure taking a long time to get released.

I'm pretty sure that Dark-Alex already commented on 5.50. IIRC, the current PSARDumpers are obsolete, since Sony actually changed the encryption keys this time around. He also mentioned that while it would delay any possible CFW version, the new encryption didn't really pose any significant barrier.

Regarding the smaller incrementals, such as 5.02 and 5.05, he shot down CFW versions of those some time ago, mentioning that they just weren't worth the effort.

I'm with Bebpo on this one. It's really sad that to this day I haven't been able to play my copy of Idolm@ster. It just sits there. I thought it was a light of hope with 5.50 being released. And I really hope there's an actual m33 update for this one.

Can anyone help me out? I have a PSP 2000 with OFW v3.95 installed on it. What do I need to do to downgrade and then install CFW on it? Do I need to buy that modded battery? I remember a while back that you could turn any regular PSP battery into a Pandora's battery, and use that to downgrade. Is that still the case, or do I need to buy one?

On my PSP 1000 I used GTA:LCS to downgrade. Does that still work, or is v3.95 too high to use that exploit.

My monthly "attempt to get FFVII working on the PSP" is currently under way again. Still no head way. Blank screen after I hit new game. Yet again I ask if anyone else has encountered this.

i don't know what to say other than looking for the right POPS loader version. I played through the whole game on 3.71, I think.

It doesn't load at all when I try to use a POPS version, the whole PSP freezes. When I use "boot from flash" or whatever that last option is I get into the game but it freezes when I click new game. At least it doesn't freeze the whole system though, I can still use the XMB.

Latest firmware and POPS to 3.72.

Would clock settings or ISO mode matter at all? I've tried messing with them all and now I can't even get Vagrant Story working (which was working at one point!)

You did do the whole impress.prx into your pops folder when you went past 4.00 firmware.

Hey guys

Fairly new to the scene but loving what Ive experienced so far. Everything just seems to work so well and it opens the PSP up tremendously. I ordered a replacement thumbstick last week and installed that no problems, but for some reason the new stick was ever so slightly favouring the left and up directions, so in this one particular game if you pushed in either of those directions, while not physically stuck (cos it was new), the on screen cursor would continue in that direction.

But I downloaded a sweet little app that increased the dead zone and it works perfectly.

I love it when shit just works.

Anyway, the reason Im here is I need save states bad. Im useless at older games with difficulties like Castlevania.

Is it true that only slim PSPs do save states? I have a 1002 model.

I can only tell you how I did it myself. Ripped the game with CDRWin, converted with PSX2PSP 1.2. I upgrade my CFW with each increment, no popsloader at all. So far I've been playing FFVII with no problems. Basically, I do the same with FFVII as all other PSX games. Anyway, I know this doesn't help you much, except it might tell you that something is afoot with your PSP.

Now if only Front Mission 3 was possible :(

Sounds like your POPs version that you are trying to load is missing or corrupted.
Boot from flash uses the POPs version included in the current PSP FW (5.00 POPS)

Try and download a POPS pack if you can find one and try again.

sorry for the dumb question, but are you giving it a few minutes before deciding it froze? sometimes it takes a minute or two when you switch POPS. Vagrant Story is another one I was playing with no problems (though I haven't gotten all the way through it.) I think you may need to either replace your POPS data (everything) or make new isos. Doing both probably couldn't hurt.

I thought I had answered your question before..anyway, what PSP-2000 do you have? Whether you can put custom firmware or not on it is largely dependent on which model you have. I think the black slim is fine, as well as most blue slims, not sure about the others. If you do have a slim that can be downgraded, yes, you do need a Pandora battery. All of the files that you need are linked in the OP in a pretty well done tutorial.

That's the one I have also and you should have no problem. If you still have your PSP 1000 with CFW on it then you can use that to make a Pandora battery but I don't know how to do so.

There's no perfect solution, but the best option is to use the PS3's Remote Play feature in conjunction with a DLNA server on your PC. This actually works extremely well. Problem is, you need a PS3.

There's other options, the easiest is probably PimpStreamer, which is no longer in developer AFAIK. I get stuttering sound with that though.

Nothing else that I know.

I just turned on my PSP for the first time in a couple months (hur, hur, I know) and tried to log in to PSN. It gave me an error message saying a system software update was required. I'm running 5.00 M33 - when I click on the system update button it tells me that I'm already running the most recent version. What's the deal?

There is 5.50 Official Firmware, which hasn't been cracked yet.
