PSP Custom Firmware Thread

Posting here for help creating a Magic Memory Stick:

I am getting an error: "ipl failed to inject. not enough reserved sector space"

I am using Rain's Ultralite MMS maker for 5.00 M33-4. I have also tried PSPGrader as well as manually injecting ipl through Rain's IPLMSTOOL, both of which have produced similar results. Any ideas?

Thanks! I bought Resistance and it wouldn't let me play :(...

Just make sure once you're on 3.80 that you go to the recovery menu (hold R while turning the unit on) and make sure that "Use M33 server" option is turned on. I believe it's under Config.

I asked this a while ago, but I'm on 3.70 M33 and I wanto upgrade to the latest CFW. do I just need to reDL official 1.50, and the newest FW or is there something special i have to do now?

EDIT: I guess going to 3.80 will work for me too.

EDIT: I have 3.72 MWW-4 instead of just 3.70.

Can I lose the chance of installing CFW by updating the official firmware?

I don't know anyone that can help me hack my PSP and I want to try the PSN store without ruining the chance of installing CFW in the future.

You can access the PSN store with CFW.

Okay, so ive been out of the PSP homebrew scene for quite a while. I used to be in the middle of it, posting at the pspupdates.com forum a lot. I even gave homebrew a shot myself, but instead wrote these tutorials: http://www.psp-programming.com/tutorials/

Anyway, i havent kept up for at least 2 years now probably. Whats new, and how awesome is the new custom firmware.

Also I still have an original PSP from launch with version 1.5.

Checck out their downloads section and other parts of that site, you'll find every major homebrew there.

And holy shit, you are in for a great treat discovering what the homebrew scene has been up to since two years ago.

Lol I used to be a moderator at that websites forums. But then I came to GAF and stopped going there so I lost my mod status.

Coolest and latest thing I remember about PSP homebrew is the N64 emulator. It ran so well it was amazing.

The OP is always so daunting and technical to me. I can get a Dell e-certificate with my AMEX points.. thinking of getting a PSP-2000. Can I put custom firmware on it?

If you can get a PSP-2000 your chances of getting a PSP that you can install CFW on are pretty high.
No guarantees though!!

I tried to get RemoteJoy Lite working on Vista 64 bit, but it became way too much of a hassle to get going. Has there been an update to make it easier, or perhaps some other method to hook up the PSP to your PC?

Of the top of my head there is fantastic emulator support with AAA+ PSX emulation and compatability thanks to POPSloader.
Total XMB & shell replacements, irshell & remotejoy.etc..

The actual CFW has never been as user friendly and advanced. Total integration into XMB, automatic updating through XMB, no need for devhook or USB loaders.
Changeable CPU speed, brightness, UMD region, ISO loading program and lots of other stuff I can't remember.

That N64 Emu is still being worked on. He's made some great progress but far, far from 100%.

How does that work? How can you tell in advance whether it will work?

Try IRSHELL, it has that feature.

i tried it, but for some reason IRSHELL doesn't like reading games from the memory stick :( someone told me that i was missing some kind of patch or something, i have no idea what that was all about ..

isn't there any stand alone plugin that can do this ?

I found a AB01 serial number model of the 2000 series and am probably going to buy it over the 3000 just because of the CFW possibilities. Am I correct that the AB01's can have CFW installed? Also, would it be better for me to buy one that starts with AB017 instead of AB018 or AB019?

With that said, I am a complete idiot when it comes to CFW and was looking to buy a Pandora battery and MMS. What is the best place to get them? I was looking at PandoraSales.com.

The patch is included, using IRSHELL, navigate to the IRSHELL folder at the memory stick root, you'll find a patch folder, go into that and run the patch corresponding to your firmware. Simple and easy.

If you want, I can take screenshots of how to it. It's easy enough though.

You'll have the extra feature of IRSHELL to compliment your new music options. I found IRSHELL's option the easiest for custom soundtracks, I didn't like the stand alone plugins at all.

Feel try to try the standalone plugin. =)

Theres a guy working on a custom web browser that utilizes all the PSP's ram. So Phat users have 32MB of ram and Slim users have all 64MB or ram to use with the browser. That means sites load faster, no more "out of memory" crap and certain flash games are playable too.

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=0P4ODCKA

**What's new**
-Selection of the destination directory problem is now fixed.
-Used memory is always max. (Not Automatic).
-Now it at the startup it will show the max memory which will be used.
-The code is cleaned.
-New interface at startup and exit.
-Added a music and good theme to the EBOOT. (Thanks to Mazide).
-EBOOT is now smaller. (Thanks to Mazide)
-You can now exit the browser from the HOME button.
-"Free RAM" func.

**Freeing RAM**
-Press Circle and quit from browser.
-It will ask if you want to exit or Free RAM.

Props to ardatan and crew.

Has anyone tried Final Fantasy VII recently on the current firmware? I tried running it on my psp slim with 3.8 m33 and it crashed during the opening battle. I figured since FF7 is out officially that it should work correctly now, thanks.

I think it depends somewhat on the version of popsloader and is down to experimentation iirc. I've tried several utils to convert my original discs (EU) and had little success. Same with VIII, although IX (to end of first disc so far) works fine (and looks really nice on the small screen).

Saying that, even though all PS3's allegedly play all PS1 games, mine won't play FF VIII. so a way to get it to work would be very useful!

This works quite well, but don't expect a miracle, some pages still give memory issues, but generally it is a nice improvement.

thanks, i didn't bother with the browsing to see myself thing before, didn't realize it might already be included. I'll download IRshell again and try it, if it still doesn't work you'll have to baby sit me through it :p

I've had no problems running on 5.00 M33-6 (EU). I have, however, had no luck getting FFIX to run, using a few different versions of POPS (3.70 and onwards). I can get past the menu screen, but after that -- no dice.

No worries, I also included the link to the stand alone music.prx plugin, whatever works for you.

I used to hate IRSHELL, but it's a great XMB replacement, so many additional functions easily accessable, like Nethost,USBHost/RemoteJoy, playing PS1 games same screen multiplayer using two PSP's, custom soundtracks, built in PDF/Text reader, file explorer, PSP to PSP Wifi file transfer and more.

fuck yeah ! that music plugin works great ! thanks man. Listening to Price of Freedom somehow makes Mana khemia suck less now :p

Just to confirm... ALL Slim 2000 series with the serial number AB01XXXXXXX are the older Mobo? I found a AB018 and just want to make sure before I open it.

I played through the whole game on my PSP with popsloader set to run the 3.71 pops version. No issues at all.

That's a US copy of the game BTW, converted with the PopstationMD GUI.

I opened it and it was 3.95 OFW, which meant I was good to go. Except when I looked at the screen closer, there was a noticeable scuff or scratch along the bottom right edge of the screen. I ended up exchanging it for another AB01 and this one looks good... 3.95 and all. Now comes ordering the battery...

Ohh.. and where should I get a Memory Stick? I looked on Amazon, but they are pretty close to B&M prices ($45 for an 8GB). I did see a 2GB Sandisk "PSP" card for $8.
