PSP Custom Firmware Thread

Ys SEVEN comes out next week.

Give or take a week or so for shipping from Play-Asia.

If this 5.55/6.00 CFW silliness isn't figured out by then it's off to OFW I go.

Yeah, I'm about ready to give up as well. Tired of jumping through hoops to get shit working or, recently, not being able to play new titles.

Shit Disgaea 2 Dark Hero Days require firmware 5.55, so do I have to upgrade from 5.00 M33-6 to Gen 5.50 to be able to play?

There is possibility that someone will release ripkit that will alter the game ISO. Then it will be playable on 5.00

Same as Soul Calibur.

You know, something about that... I've only seen ripkits that work on the EU version of the game... but not the US. I dump my UMDs myself and I'm not interested in just downloading the EU version and ripkitting that to go all "I CAN PLAY IT! IT WORKS!!" it's not the same.

I want to use remotejoy and this one custom music plugin on this game, is there any way to fix the US version so I can use it on CFW of any sort? My save data is for that, and it's pretty far in with my unlocked CAS parts and my characters. Can anyone help me with this?

Doesn't work. Currently, any game that requires 5.55 will not work on the current CFW we have now..

LIES!!
Soul Calibur US requires 5.55, and I managed to get it working on my PSP running 5.50 Gen-B2.
Similarly, the EU version of Dissidia FF requires 5.55, and I helped European friend get his game running on his CFW'd PSP!

The process probably involves in dabbling in shades of grey, since it requires injecting special files into the ISO rip. But it DOES work! :D
Specifically, I injected two files taken from the European SoulCal ISO into my US ISO.
For EU Dissidia, I pulled two files from my US ISO, and helped a friend inject them into his EU copy.

So basically the secret is... using an older firmware check file in another regions iso for your 5.55 requiring iso?

In any case, Persona/Disgaea 2/Persona 3 requiring new CFW is bullshit and M33/OE/whatever not being updated in a good year is bullshit.

Rumor has it that 6.0 is supposed to be out soon, but who the hell knows.

seems like its better to go back to OFW with all the hassle to play the new games. I only really use CFW to play unfinished RPGs on the ps1 and to try out some homebrew apps.

I wanted to put that method in my post, but like you said it's dabbling in shades of grey so I didn't say anything. People are trying that method for Disgaea but so far all they got was game starts then freezes.

That's the thing.. it's not a sure thing or universal method for every game. Dissidia's US release only required 5.50. The EU Soul Calibur was patched by someone but apparently only because it was some kind of review copy or something that had decrypted files on it.

Since OFW 6.0 seems to be right around the corner, I'm sure that the GEN guys and who knows who else might get crackin' on getting a PSAR dump and putting together a new release for everyone.

Patience!

Hah, if Sony announced some kind of trade-in thing for PSP -> PSPGo, I might just bite the bullet and buy a second PSP. Well, hopefully someone somewhere is working on the CFW.

Guys how do I get sub-folder support (like for music and stuff)? 5.00 m33-6 here
I downloaded the little-big-folders ctf and stuck it on my psp. Little-big-folders works, but it's still not letting me use subfolders
Do I need to do something else?

Oh... is it possible to use save data from different regions than your game?

And do you know if different regions can face each other in vs?

maybe 6.0 will be enough for DA to finally do another CFW

I am not giving up CFW since there are so many benefits.

With that said, I am seriously considering buying a 2nd PSP for OFW, probably a PSP-4000 model in the near future.

It's kinda hard to give up the convenience of UMD-free, I might buy a psp-go just for that.

It is hard giving it up, but all the downloadable games on the PSN will also be accessible on the PSP-X000 model. Frankly, I rather have the ability to play my old UMD games, rather than throw my extensive collection away.

I am counting on sony's transfer program for that. Give us something good, SONY!!

Still no word about that "good will" program they talked about many moons ago, except to say that they still didn't have anything to announce. Still, I definitely won't be "trading in" my UMDs for PSN-equivalents (assuming all of my 80 or so games even get PSN conversions... not likely IMHO). Not about to trade anything for DRM ISOs and the licenses to use 'em. I'm content using them to generate my own DRM-free ISOs, thank-you-very-much! :)

No idea. If you want 5.50-style subfolders, just update to 5.50 Gen-B, I say. 5.00 M33-6 is horribly obsolete.

If Dark-Alex is gone for good, you can bet that a 6.00 Gen firmware will hit not long after 6.0 gets decrypted. Assuming 6.0 gets fully decrypted, of course.

What's in OFW 6.00?

* PlayStation Store Games can now be grouped and displayed in folders based on their expire date under [GAME]
* Importing of playlist from the Media GO! applications is now supported under Music
* Under [Settings] - [Network Update] has been changed to [System Update]
* The number of Colors that can be selected under [Settings] > [Theme Settings] has been increased
* In [Display Panel Close Options] under [Settings] > [System Settings], the design for the [Standard] option has been changed
* The PSP Go! system can now connect to the Internet via a Bluetooth modem such as a mobile phone

Internet security and a 1 new theme color, also you can organize your games into folders(ala PS3). There was something else about future updates, it wasn't important. It was around 26mb. Very pointless.

Yeah, wasn't there a rumour of a monthly service you could pay for to get access to the entire PSP catalog?

Well, anyway... let's see what happens.

Fark this is so annoying. I got home today with Soulcalibur Broken Destiny.

However that also requires 5.55

Am I able to do the same as I did with Dissidia (replace boot.bin and eboot.bin with versions that require 5.0, which I believe is the EU version) or is there another way?

I'm running the latest M33 on a phat, btw.

Also, is it "illegal" to ask for an EU boot.bin or eboot.bin here? >_> Sorry, not 100% sure on the rules.

I think you can in fact switch those boots to get it working, I'm not 100% sure though. Also, yeah you probably shouldn't ask for anything like that around these parts...

God. i'm just going to have to buy a new psp just for future games. old games and all that crap i'll keep with the psp i have now. can't be bothered to wait for a fix to run my umd games.

OK, I had no lessons today, meaning a chance to work on some UI designs for Popstation OS X (as I'm calling it). This will probably be how v1.0 will look:
PopstationOSXPreview.png

A quick run through:
The app launches with just the 'Drag Playstation disc or disk image here' section.
Upon a disc (image) being dragged into the window, the app expands to show the options above. The game name and ID are automatically added (like Prometeus).
The EBOOT can be customised by clicking the red icons and selecting the appropriate files.
The 5 drop downs at the bottom are for individual disc compression. (Obviously only one field will be shown if the game has one disc, two if two discs, etc.).

I'd really appreciate some feedback, as it's kind of hard to fit so many options into a clean interface. Just stuff like whether it looks too cluttered, or if you can think of a better way of doing things.

Sorry for straying off topic, as this isn't directly related to custom firmware. Can't think of anywhere else to put this aside from a new thread, which would be a bit of self promoting overkill :)

Looks fantastic. You sir, are a prince! Thank you for working on this.

Yeah, it's annoying but these are guys doing this stuff in their free time for fun and Internet Cred.

If you want to fix something, do it yourself. AFAIK no one is getting paid for any of this.

That said, I bought this thing to play games and if I can't play the ones I want, I'll just go to OFW. Hopefully the games I want will all be available on PSN. I have no interest in UMDs.

I hear that Team Gen's already (partially?) decrypted 6.0 and have begun commenting about some of the changes made. Seems to be the first PSP Go-ready FW, in any event.

5.50 Gen-B has been pretty fantastic so far, so I optimistically await 6.00 Gen-A.

Please, don't ask here, the Blog, IRC, etc for a 6.00 M33, as it isn't planned.

So no 6.00 from DA. So looks like everyone will have to wait for team Gen.

well in that case thanks for the good times DA but I'm gonna have switch to GEN then

he hasn't done anything since 5.00 and with all these new games starting to require 5.55 you think he'd at least do something or just come out and say he's retiring from the scene

maybe DA is waiting for the next version since the big game flood hasnt happened yet...im personally waiting mostly for GT5, peace walker and china town wars...

I guess i'll try using Gen-B again. I may have fucked up something somewhere else but my Browser stopped functioning that's why i went back to 5.00 m33-6.

May the Schwartz be with you
Guess Ill finally update to Gen...got 2 PSPs atm, one is official and one is CFW but I dont like using my official one since its FF7 CC special psp

Dude forgets RPG fans that want Disgaea 2, Persona PSP, ...

Yeah, thanks dude but it looks like I'm going to switch to GEN. Does Disgaea 2 run on GEN? I may buy it off PSN if that's the case (if not I'll just fucking wait).

Looks like Team Gen managed to dump 6.00 yesterday.
And fully decrypt it today.

While there's no 6.00 Gen-A CFW announced yet, this is certainly an encouraging development.

It's actually pretty curious, because to my knowledge, 5.55 was never fully decrypted. Lack of interest/effort? Or did Sony drop the ball with 6.00? *shrugs*
