PSP Custom Firmware Thread

You need to find those on your own, since they're technically illegal to download.
That's the only GBA emulator for the PSP that's worth a damn.

Alright, I found them but where do I need to put them? I just tried dumping them in the gpSP folder and it didn't work.

bish gets all the credit :)
from the readme
gpSP currently requires an authentic GBA BIOS image file to run. It will
make no effort to run without one present; this file is 16kb and should
be called gba_bios.bin and present in the same location as the EBOOT.PBP
file. Please do not ask me where to obtain this, you'll have to look
online or grab it from a GBA. Note that it is not legal to have this file
unless you own a GBA, and even then it's rather gray area.

Careful, this thread is threading on dangerous water now!!

I haven't updated UPMS tutorial in a while now, on my to do list, but Dark_Alex has made great strides with his DC program which is at V7 now.
It should work perfectly on any PSP-1000 or PSP-2000 (exept TA-088-3).
Download it here and download the Sony 4.01 OFW here.

You can use this program to create Pandora Battery

5.00 M33 is awesome other than losing my config file and having to redo all of my wireless info.

Store would be even better with background downloading though :lol Got to take some Ps1 games off my 4gb stick to make room for PSP demos though

So what's the current best solution for converting a PS1 .iso to an eboot in OS X (Tiger)?

Prometeus Pro for some reason won't start up when I try to open it, and it seems like it hasn't had any development support for a while.

Make sure you download and install libusb or the programme will not boot.

Technically, PSP screen always supported interlaced mode as an option (there was a way to enable it on early prototype units/devkits).

If the reports are an actual case of interlacing (and not just people creatively abusing the term that has nothing to do with what's actually on screen), I would imagine it's most likely a firmware bug that enables interlaced scan by mistake (as is the case, you had to abuse a bug to enable it on devkits in the first place). Historically we've already seen far worse bugs in various PSP Firmwares, so this wouldn't be a big surprise at all.

Bad screens are another explanation, but then it's something other then interlacing. :p

Honestly, I either I can't even notice the problem on my 3000, or it's not actually that bad at all.

1.50 Kernel addon is out!

Instructions: Copy to /PSP/GAME5XX and run.

Note: because even deleting LFTV and korean font there was not enough space this time, this version will delete also flash0:/dic/apotp.dic

I'm unsure about what this file is for (maybe for japanese text predicition?) but system works fine with it.

IF you want to keep some of the things deleted by the 150k_installer do following things.
- Install DC7. Use the Format flash options in nand operations menu. Make flash1 size like around 1 MB smaller, make flash3 the smallest possible, and make flash2 a bit smaller (not too much, or you won't be able to download games and demos from psstore). Then, make flash0 as big as possible and continue.

- Install 4.01 M33, update to 5.00 M33.

- Install 1.50 addon. Dump 5.00 using the latest psardumper, and flash the deleted files you want back.

I was having problems with my memory card. Deleted items would still take up space, so I formatted and ran error check. This worked for a bit, but I had the problem again, and ran the error check once more. Now my games seem to run slowly. I'm getting hitching in all of my games (including God of War, which I beat recently with no problems throughout). I got the memory card from dealextreme, so I'm pretty sure it isn't the best quality.

Anyone have any ideas, or does it look like I need a new one? Also, are the 8gb cards usable? I know people had trouble getting CFW on their PSP using an 8gb card, but are they usable if the PSP already has CFW?

As much as I like DealExtreme, they don't sell much genuine products, they are all Chinese knock-offs and their Memory Sticks are fakes and yours seems to be a dud.
Buy the real thing and it should be perfect (faster read/write speeds)

8GB & 16GB cards work with all the newer CFWs.

Thanks. Now i just have to decide how much memory I want!

I'm fairly lost with all the new firmware. I remember back in the day when it was all about the 1.50. I knew what i was doing back then and it was simple loading the cfw onto your memory stick and tada.

I have a slim psp...just put the recent 5.0 fw on it. I guess i would have to go out and get another MS and another battery if i wanted to do anything CFW related eh

You don't need a second memory stick or battery. You can turn what you have now into a Pandora combo, and then back again.

I've never used the CFW auto-updater, but if it comes up with "PSP System Update Version 5.00" screen instead of 5.00 M33-2, this is wrong, right?

Regardless, I think I might wait, I don't wanna get banned from psn stores (my ps1 gamez :( ) and if it breaks ps1 emulation so persona 2 doesn't work, THEN I THINK WE'RE DONE HERE.

I hope Dragon Warrior 7 gets fixed.

Dark Alex kind of... borrowed the Sony updater for his updates... since 3.90 IIRC. Possibly 3.71. I forget.

Either way, you can verify if the M33 Network Update is enabled or disabled by checking the relevant setting in the Recovery Console (fully power down, then reboot the PSP while holding R). However, if you want to be absolutely sure, you can download the goodies via the Network Update, cancel out of the beginning of the installation, then browse to the memory stick via the XMB and see if the M33 updater is there. If so, you can simply run it from there.

What's wrong with Dragon Quest VII? Using POPSLoader to access 3.71 (or 3.72, I forget), you can play through the entire game without too many issues. I did a few months ago. Took me something like 140 hours to fully complete the game. The 5.00 M33 flavor of POPSLoader should hit within the next few days or so.

Well, I went through the network update, and it gave me a black screen with text, made me download the official firmware through that, said it was restarting to m33 updater, and then popped up with the update screen.

I figured it was borrowing the interface, but it didn't mention anything about "5.00 Version M33-2" or anything, just "Version 5.00," so I figured it was no good.

Realllllly. I got about 10 hours in, and it crashed consistentl after beating some boss, and the compatability lists never got updated that showed it work. I guess I'll try it again with version 3.71, this is the best day ever. There's no way i'm sitting through 150 hours of ps1 rpg not on a portable.

3.71 or 3.72. I can't recall which. But if you dig up some of my old posts in the... DQ Appreciation Thread from awhile back, you'll be sure to find my little updates as I played through the game. I'm pretty sure I mentioned my settings then.

Q: is the output without progressive scan for games only available in the PSP-3000... I updated my 2000 and it said something about it, but I didn't pay attention so I don't know if it was referring to things like UMD movies :p ...

I'm guessing that in the connected Display Settings, the Progressive/Interlace options is only for movies and not games... right?

Is there an OS X equivalent of Remote Joy so I can play PSP games using my Macbook Pro's monitor?

Lyte Edge

All I got for the Vernal Equinox was this stupid tag
Has anyone been having issues playing PS1 games with TV out after the 5.0 update? I tried a game I bought off of the PSN store (RBS Dominated Mind) and the picture is too big for the TV, with most of it cut off. My settings are all fine too.

EDIT: Never mind, it was my TV. Had to change the zoom settings.

Sadly not (afaik), using VMWare Fusion 2.0 on a 2.4Ghz Macbook Pro it works fine, but the sound has a nasty lag. So it can't be used for recording! But playing will work using your PSP's built-in speaker.

Anybody else getting PS1 games to work with 5.00M33?

I can get 1 or two games to wrong sorta, most of them are broke.

The newest 5.00M33 seems to break just about every game I have regardless of the popstation or whatever I use.

Edit: NVM, figured out the problems with it. Want to play PS1 games don't upgrade for the most part.

The option is in the recovery menu (Hold R when powering on the PSP).

I think you can change it back when the PSP is in recovery mode. (Hold R when turning the PSP on)

When installing the 1.5 kernal, do you need the old 1.50 eboot file? if so, where do you put it?

I'd imagine all that info is the readme file. If I remember correctly, you put the 1.50FW in the root directory of the Memory Stick.

So I just recently got 4.33 working on my PSP. What changes/updates would I get if I installed the newest firmware? And has it been disproven/proven yet if playing on the TV through component is fullscreen now?

Sony 5.01 has been released, meaning no access to PSN store without this FW.
Change in flash drivers & popsloader again so 5.00 M33-2 may be delayed.

Is there any updates on this PSN store banning nonsense? Is it firmware related or still even happening?

AFAIK no-one has been banned from PSN with a CFW PSP. Its was just FUD to begin with it.
If you provide proof of such bannings, I will gladly something something something.....

That's what it kinda sounded like but still spooky. Then again, does the store even work with 5.00 or do you need to update first?
