Ok, got a quick question:

Is it true that some 2000 model PSPs cannot be pandora-hacked? I just tried to hack a friend's new PSP with my pandora, and it wouldn't work. Refused to boot up at all and the green light was going, even though the pandora was already set to Slim-mode. It was 4.03 or something FW.

Yes, custom firmware cannot be installed on units that have the TA-088 v3 motherboard. Do you know what firmware came preinstalled on his PSP? 4.01 and up is definitely a v3.

edit: I was wrong

That would be it then. It shares the same motherboard with PSP3000 right? Any chance when they figure out 3000 this one should be hackable right?

You sir are correct. The newest Slims and new PSP 3000 are unhackable, Pandora proof at the moment with no fix in sight at the moment.

I have ScummVM for the PSP and am trying to play the Secret of Monkey Island (CD version). The game runs but I have no audio. I checked the ScummVM website and read that I need to convert the MP3 files to compressed files. Looking at the ReadMe, this seems mad complicated:

ReadMe said:
Use LAME or some other MP3 encoder to rip the cd audio tracks to files. Name
the files track1.mp3 track2.mp3 etc. ScummVM must be compiled with MAD support
to use this option. You will need to rip the file from the CD as a WAV file,
then encode the MP3 files in constant bit rate. This can be done with the
following LAME command line:

lame -t -q 0 -b 96 track1.wav track1.mp3

Try something like CDex, wraps a nice GUI around several encoders. Just pick an appropriate bitrate and convert the wavs to mp3s.

Haven't got a new version in some time, but it used to be bundled with LAME, OGG, AAC, etc...

if they're using the same pre-ipl, then yes, they will both be hackable if/when it's figured out.

Before I need to know I might update mine slim one.

Anyone has tried on CWCheat plugin in CFW5.00 PSP? I would like to read some text files on PSP game or emulators.
I might better to wait for CWC update before I can start update.

The newest CWCheat (0.2.2 Rev D) works just fine with 5.00 M33.

And surprisingly, the PSP 3000 does NOT use the hackproof mobo of the newest 2000s. It seems to be using a more vulnerable mobo instead. Bizarre.

Updated the OP to reflect the 5.00 M33 news. I've also included some extra tidbits in the M33 section.

I'm trying to update the PSP via wifi I'm getting an error "Internal error has occurred (8041A0B)"

I don't know what the hell this is, my warranty is up on my PSP I bought it in september of last year. And when I try to update via memory stick I get another error. Anyone familiar with the wifi error? anyway to fix this?

could someone let me know how they accessed the Japanese psp store? I use the email on my Japanese ps3 account and it said 'not valid'

My PSP is really pissing me off, first the wifi "breaks" and won't detect any wireless networks or connect through remoteplay or anything.

Now when I try to update my PSP from 4.01 M33-2 to 5.00 M33 I get a damn error code (DRNFFFFFFCD) Basically it's the code you get for trying to install official PSP firmware on a CFW PSP. My PSP is completely CFW, I don't understand why this is happening. I've put the file on my MC myself, and even used an easyinstaller, neither way gets me to the installer screen.

HELP!!

If you have 5.0 M33 installed on a PSP, how does buying stuff from the integrated PS Store works? Should I be even attempting to do that with a hacked firmware?

So, I've heard that Sony is banning PSN accounts of PSPs running custom firmware that have only been on the store to download demos..

Edit:NVM,it customfirware only lol
They need to put up moar psp demoes

On another thought, CFW on psp 3000 a possibilty? YES!
I don't have a clue what to use on my 3000.

I highly doubt CFW has anything to do with this. There are no red flags that can alert them whether you're on ofw or cfw while browsing the store.

How can you really know that though?

For all we know, by connecting to the psn store via psp, it send the string that's displayed in the fw version info menu, so they could see '5.0 m33' vs '5.0'... just as an example.

that's good news but i can't believe that the psp 3000 has visible interlacing issues and a desaturated look with the wide color setting on.

A quick shake of the Google magic wand, says you need to download Chilly Willy KeyCleaner and run it. Could be something to do with key5.

EDIT:
Do EXACTLY as below:
DRNFFFFFFCD = key 0x5 header is not "g k l C" (in hex: 67 6B 6C 43)
* to fix this, get KeyCleaner -> HERE <- then let it clean key 5, run it again and tell it to UNPATCH key 5

I have to say that the PS Store on PSP is freakin brilliant. I think SONY has definitely nailed the freakin stores they look amazing on both ps3 and psp. Now that the 5.0 version is out and UMD is dying I don't think there is another reason to have the psp modded... well the slim one atleast unless you are pirating games... I will keep my phat to play ps1 games or emulators although I have never bothered to use any emulator on psp EVER.

Are there any emulators that actually run perfectly ?

New version of PSPStates from Dark_Alex compatible with 5.00 M33.
http://www.psp-hacks.com/2008/10/17/pspstates-experiment-v2-for-psp-slim-500/
This is same version as the one for 4.01 M33 but updated to do patches in 5.00 M33, that’s why version hasn’t changed yet.

Remember to discard old savestates from 4.01 before using the plugin. If you attempt to load a savestate made in 4.01 your ram would be in 4.01 M33 but the flash in 5.00 M33, and soon or later it will crash or give problems.

is the new CFW stable on the PSP-1000?

Yes, don't see why it shouldn't be as all CFW are based on Sony OFW code.
I'm running with it on my launch PSP-1000 since yesterday. No problems.

Wow they're up to 5.00? I'm still on 3.71... I guess I should upgrade one of these days. :lol

Oooh. 5.00 M33!!

I think I'll wait and see before upgrading just in case. Especially since Popsloader is still borked.

What happened to popsloader? I don't want to upgrade if I lose that :|

5.00-M33 breaks Innocent Sin. It crashes randomly. Fortunately, I have 2 psps and "leapfrog" them, so I'll go back to the 4.01-M33 one for the time being.

I thought Persona 2 was basically unplayable in all versions of POPS. POPS 4.01 works well?

A new version of POPSLoader is coming soon, btw.

I didn't have the random freezes until I upgraded, and I got to the second dungeon before that.

I just bought something from the store so they hopefully won't kick me.

But could someone help me access the Japanese psp store with my ps3 account?

Press triangle on your Account Management & delete your account. Then sign up again with your Japanese PSN account

gamingbits mentioned it.

Also should note that when navigating the menus, the PSP-3000's display had interlacing-like artifacts when in motion, in Normal and Wide Color Space mode.
