PSP Preorder. Screwed?

Just called up 6 EBs and 2 GameStops. All sold out of their first shipments.

Is there anywhere to still preorder for the first shipment?

Probably not. Your best bet is to camp out the night before on big electronic's chain like best buy. I camped out for the ps2 launch back in 10/26/00 (still remember it) it was fun bring some friends and it will be a blast.

I wonder if there's any chances of it breaking street date. I remember when Toys R Us and Walmart sold GBA SPs about 4 days early

I had a dream that all of my GameRush's PSP preorders got shipped to my house. I tried to figure out how to open one of the boxes and put everything back so that nobody would know I played the PSP.

Hope this helps!

Game Rush if you have one nearby. My store still has two left to order

and starting the 15th you can trade 3 games and get an extra $5 per game as well as trade 2 and preorder or purchase any title for $29.99

I called Best Buy and the sales person said they would have them on the 18th.

Yeah but it doesn't mean they'll sell them on the 18th.

I'm sure there will be some stores who sell the PSP early but I bet they practice gets stopped quick.

Of course they will. It just depends on how much they care about getting caught selling them before the street date.

I was in a Wherehouse* Music the other day and they had a sign said they was takin' PSP preorders for day 1. So, maybe your local FYE/Strawberries/Coconuts?

*sp? I can't remember if it's spelled obnoxiously like this or not.

Kobun, you were right! They are taking preorders, though it's for the value pack. $299.99, and $25 down.

Is the value pack a good deal? They said it comes with a game too, but didn't have any other details on that.

I preordered a PSP bundle through EBGames.com. I was told I would get an email later on requiring me to specify games and accessories, to customize the bundle. I haven't received one yet.

Should I be worried? Did anyone else do this and get this supposed email yet? Did this like a month and a half ago, btw.

They're probably just waiting until they get a better confirmation on which accessories they are going to have and a more solid idea of the price. Plus, you will probably get the e-mail about a week before release.

Thanks, I've never preordered a bundle like this online before. I even got my DS at a Target by waiting in line.

A friend of mine ordered his DS off of ebgames.com in a bundle, and I remember him checking his e-mail at school, and he received an e-mail asking him what he would like in a bundle around a week before release.

Many thanks. Was getting worried.

The bundle requires 3 games. Can I add more to the bundle?

Just too add a little note to those who have pre-ordered for second shipment at EB and GameStop. I know at my store we've had three people back out of their preordered first shipment already. In all likely-hood we will still be getting those three units shipped to us, and then it will be a first come first serve for people on the second shipment.

SO hit up your local WalMarts and such and if that fails show up at your GameStop or Eb and see if they had anyone cancel off their first shipment.

You are not required to purchase three games. You can choose a combination of 4 games + accessories from the list they send you. I am sure that the $399.95 price on their website is just representative of a bundle that includes an accessory and three games. You could always get four games and no accessories and the price will be different.

ebgames.com said:
Within the next week, we will send you an email requesting your choice of at least four items from the list that will be provided. The listed price of $399.95 assumes you select 3 games at $39.99 and one accessory at $29.99. Actual price of the bundle depends on the price of the games or accessories you choose.
Appearently, you should receive your email within the next week and you can change the price of your bundle.

You may cancel your order at any time up until 10 days before the PSP launch. To expedite processing, your credit card will be charged 10 days before the PSP launch.
Also note that they will be charging your card on the 14th of March so you can always cancel until then.

You can only get the value pack at launch, so you don't have a choice. :) It only comes with a 32mb memory stick duo, which isn't enough space for movies and such, and I'd recommend purchasing a larger size stick now as they are about to become very "popular."

$300 isn't bad, assuming the game you can get is worth $49.99 and not $39.99. You should check and see which games you can reserve with it. If they were trying to tell you that the Value Pack for $300 with a game is the standard, they were lying to you, BTW.

As far as I know the electronic retailers (Best Buy, Circuit City, etc.) as well as Walmart, Sears and the like aren't taking pre-orders. I know my work (CC) gets our shipment a week before the 24th.

If Sony actually ships 1 million units like they are promising, I really dont think it will be all that difficult to find a PSP unit even without a pre-order. If you hit Best Buy, Circuit City, Target, Wal-Mart, etc. on the day of release, I don't think you'll have much problems finding one. I know that a lot of people are predicting shortages, and some are counting on the so they can make some money on Ebay, I just don't see it being a problem. A million units is a lot to sell through, especially at the $250 price point. The DS certainly didn't sell through a million units on launch day, and if I recall correctly, it came out just before Thanksgiving, getting the benefit of Black Friday and the Holiday Rush to aid it.

Yeah, what FYE/Strawberries/whatever is doing is putting a game in with the value pack. You might end up spending $10 more on the game because you're essentially paying $50 for what could be a $40 title. But uh... if that's the only extra expenditure you encounter on PSP launch day, you can count yourself among the lucky.

EB's online bundle is pure crap. Not only do you have to buy three games, you're also required to buy an accessory? It's a value pack! It includes all the accessories you could possibly need and then some!

yeah it's funny that the eb bundle has an accessory requirement and all the accessories come with genius items like earphones and a carry case... at least some come with one of those usb cables...

Wait? The US PSP doesn't come with the required USB cable? What kind of USB cable do I need?
S0064755_enl.jpg

^ same one most digital cameras use: USB 5-Pin to Mini-B

Also keep in mind that if you have a SD card reader, you can plug the memory stick duo (with the adaptor they come with) right into your PC without having to use the PSP in USB mode.

nope, and thats the one really important thing a 'value' pack should have too...
at least i wish it would have one instead of spidey2

Those mini USB cables are cheap as hell now. I went to the local convience store and I was going to the back to get a drink and I seen a normal USB wire for 1.99$ and a USB-MiniB for $2.99 I bought one of each and they seem to work great actually I'm using one for my printer and I used the MiniB for my mp3 player and I get the same speeds.

Anyone know if any of big chains (not gaming stores either) have announced any midnight sales?

I doubt anyone that's not a major gaming chain will do this. I only see EB and maybe Gamestop doing it. I know my Best Buy is trying to figure out how to do it but it may not happen because of security reasons.

Damn It. I just got an e-mail from Amazon.com cancelling my PSP pre-order, saying that it wont be in stock. I had cancelled my EBGames bundle preorder after I placed my order for my standalone value pack.

The big annoyance is that I've already ordered a 1 Gig Memory Card, so I can't really back out of it now. I have to get a PSP somewhere now, and it's going to be impossible to do that on launch day.

What shitty customer service Amazon has! >:-(

Again, I really don't think it's going to be impossible to find a PSP on launch day. If you dont have a pre-order just hit Target, Wal-Mart, Best Buy, Circuit City, etc. 1 Million launch units is A LOT of PSP's to sell through. I don't think you'll have any problems finding one. You may have to look a little, but really I think you'll be able to find one without too much problem.

I'm going with the Wal-Mart/K-Marts near me hoping to grab one up. Its not around the holidays so I doubt it'll have the fervor that PS2 saw, and I walked into my K-Mart when they opened to grab two PS2s (one for me, one for my brother).

Actually, their customer service - for being almost entirely e-mail based - is pretty fucking tops. Although, they do include a phone number if your issue isn't resolved within the first reply.

I think the continually rotating status of the PSP on their site (zShop links vanishing and reappearing, changes in the product's status, etc.) should've been a clue that the pre-order page for the thing was in error. Also, given how many other places online are still taking orders for the thing, it just struck me as entirely unrealistic that within a few hours - past midnight in the U.S. - that Amazon, arguably the largest online retailer, would run through their entire PSP allotment.

But to play devil's advocate, yeah, they should've caught the glitch sooner and cancelled those orders right away, not wait as long as they did. If it's any consolation, their game pre-orders seem pretty stable. Although despite what the product page says, my order status screen insists that Lumines is shipping in April. I'm going to be sending them an e-mail about that inconsistency.

I live in NYC. It's not as easy as you think to just go to a big retailer on launch day here.... We have fewer options, as far as mega-retailers go, and more people.

Fuck Amazon, though, they arent getting any more of my money. Why they had to wait weeks to tell me this is beyond me!

I feel your pain Unison, but I still think you'll have little problems finding a PSP at or around the launch date. As someone else has already said, we're not in the middle of the holiday rush, and the $250 price point for the PSP will keep a number of people away. On top of that, Sony claims to be shipping 1 million units on launch day. How long did it take the DS to sell a million units during the holiday rush and at $100 less in price? In my area, the DS was never in short supply during the holidays.

Tell me where I suggested you do that.

Although if I did suggest camping out at a brick/mortar store, I'd say you try the Sony Store on the 24th, or what seems to be the lone Best Buy in Manhattan down in Chelsea. Or, if you prefer Circuit City, the one around Union Square. Hell, I bet the Times Sq. TRU will have a metric fuckton, too. There are also at least three Targets in Brooklyn, but I won't pretend that wouldn't be a pain in the ass, assuming you're coming from Manhattan.

I just want to know if EB is forcing a bundle as has been mentioned in the official US thread. If they are I am cancelling my reservation with them.

there's also a Best Buy at 86th & Lex...
also, there's a Target and a Circuit City right there in Downtown Brooklyn, at the Atlantic Ave/Pacific Street stop on the 2/3/4/5/B/D/Q/M/N/R so that's not too far, about 3 stops in...

There's been a lot of talk about being able to find a psp easily. They're launching with a million units so I guess it won't be that bad. Might not make as much on ebay as I thought I would. They're launching with a lot of units for a handheld. We'll see how that pans out.

Yeah, my local gamestops/EBs were sold out of their first shipment as well. Luckily there's a Target and WalMart side by side literally 2 min from my house. I should be able to nab one launch day.

I picked up a 2nd DS at the Atlantic Ave. Target on launch day. It's not so much that it's impossible to get a system in NYC (though it's definitely harder than it is in other places!) as that it's a major pain in the ass to have preordered a system ages ago (literally the day EB Games started offering the bundle), go for an unbundled system & then find out that it's been cancelled by the seller.

My real complaint is that I shouldn't have to camp out to get a system, I guess. Amazon's lousy customer service is to blame & nothing else. I don't really see how they're defensible...

I'm just irked at Amazon, really... especially, like I said, since I already plonked down money for a memory stick so I'd have it by launch! Yes, I probably will be able to get a system if I hustle... The point is that I shouldn't have to hustle. (Poor me... I know... :lol ).

Anyone else get their EBGames.com bundle customization and confirmation email?

Man, I wish they hadn't chosen such an obtuse method of customization. How do I know if I did it right?

In 7 days when they're supposed to respond with a final price? Argh.

Yea it was f-ing confusing.I just kept the subject header, deleted everything in the body *html and crap wtf* and just posted 4 numbers and then replied.

Hopefully that was right...stupid worded email.

I have to eat crow & take back the negative things I've said about Amazon's customer service. After a few e-mails, they agreed to a settlement. :) I sent them a copy of my cancelled EBgames order, explained that I spend literally thousands of dollars a year on their site, & pointed out that they offered PSP bundles on their site, they offered to see me the $450 PSP bundle that ToysRUs.com sells at a $100 discount.

This is the package they have:
B0007VZVG0.01._SCLZZZZZZZ_.jpg

I don't really have any need for that NBA or Soccer game, and I'll probably still have to pick up Lumines & Ridge Racer, but I really can't complain about this arrangement at all. Horray for Amazon, once more.

Special Update;

You can once again preorder from gamestop for the first shipment.
Tomorow stores should be able to once again take reservations for the first shipment, if you did one for the second, you are now on the first.

They will go fast most likely, i'm not sure how many they were allocated extra.
