questions for nobuo uematsu?

furiously molesting tim burton
the final fantasy concert in chicago is only a few weeks away, and i'll have a chance to interview nobuo uematsu the day before the festivities kick off. no idea what the format is, but because there isn't much gaming media in the midwest anymore, who knows what could happen. nervous, nervous, nervous!

if anyone has any questions for uematsu-san, i'll see what i can do about having them answered. i'll need 'em before friday, though.

edit: wish i knew how to change thread titles :p

1. How much music have you actually composed for FF12?
2. How many projects is your new company (Smile Please) working on right now?
3. Tell us about Mist Walker's current projects (ok, he probably can't talk about this, but...)

More as I think of them.

Any plans to take the concert elsewhere in the USA?

Dear Mr. Uematsu, I understand before you went freelance you were working with Mr. Sakimoto on FFXII. In fact you composed the theme song for that if I'm not mistaken. I would just like to ask, as far as you know, is that project still in existance or has all of Production Studio 4 vanished into another dimension. Thanks for you time!

What are your main musical inspirations nowadays?

Think you will ever work fully on an FF title again?

What video games are you enjoying nowadays?

Who/ What is your favorite musician/ band?
Who/ What were your first musical inspirations?
What was your first instrument?
How do you write your music?

What do you think of Koichi Sugiyama? (Dragon Quest composer, 1000000x more talented than Uematsu. Though you don't have to mention that point.) :)

Thats questionable, but one thing is for certain. Koichi's music orchastrates much better.

1. Are there any particular people or franchises you would like to work with now that you are no longer exclusively with Square (Miyamoto, Zelda, MGS, etc.)

2. Is there going to be a concert in L.A. before/during E3?

3. Focus on the next-generation has mostly been about the graphics with sound generally taking a back seat. Do you think, with this next-generation of consoles, that we'll see not only surround sound effects, but also 5.1 musical scores? Would you be interested in doing something like this?

The Dragon Quest Symphonic Suite dominated my life for about three months.

But Uematsu is amazing as well, most notably his compositions for Final Fantasy IV and VI, as well as some stuff from V. :)

This probably isn't worth asking him as I am sure it's already known, but how much videogame stuff will his new studio likely be working on? As much as before, or probably less?

Do you think people in the west will appreciate some day videogames OSTs as much as Japanese people do ? Don't you think there are strong cliches against it ?

What is your favorite Final Fantasy VI track? Will you ever go back to more upbeat themes such as "The Decisive Battle" or "Atma Weapon" in your future soundtracks?

Maybe you should ask about his thoughts on having more orchestrated compositions made for the games he's working on. Just to hear out his position on that.

Other than that, I echo Zilch's questions and fugimax' number 1.

Ask Exxy if he's gonna get a haircut before he interviews Uematsu.

What are you working on now?
What do you think you will be working on in the future?
Is the majority of your work still as a game composer?
Would you like to continue mostly doing game composing, or start branching out instead?
- If so, why do you want to branch away from composing music for videogames?

Do you have interest in doing the majority of composing for future FF titles?
What percentage of the tracks on FFXII will you do?
What specific bands and albums are you recently listening to and enjoying?

You need any more? :)

I think:

"If you had saved up all your ejaculate from your entire life, how many buckets would it fill?"

Is the question. Ignore the rest.
I'm betting three.

Just remember to squeeze him like a breast pump for new information or people on GAF will bitch and complain about your interview and claim they could have asked better questions, all the while ignoring the fact this thread existed and they never posted in it.

My question:

Do you feel it is your responsibility as a composer to create emotional cues for a player, or are you trying to express the emotions already present in the game through music?

reworded:

Do you feel it is your job to create emotion in the game through music or is your music about the emotions in the game already?

Bitter!

I'm reducing my bet to two. (Buckets) (Etc...)
Three's a lot. Depends on age I guess...
And wanking frequency.

What are your impressions on music performed by real instruments (orchestra, black mages, arrange albums), in comparison to synthesized music? Do you prefer working with one over the other and why? Why do the recent Final Fantasy games predominantly have synthesized music? Is it a budget issue, or a matter of personal taste?

How do you pronounce your name?
:lol

As for my questions:

Would you consider inviting the rest of The Black Mages to perform on future game projects?

and

How do you enjoy performing live with with your band? Do you ever feel nervous before a show?
