R.I.P Paul Di'anno (original Iron Maiden vocalist)

What a shame.

His last release was a Wrathchild recording with Zippy. Was cool to hear two of my favorite singers together.

No Prayer for the Dying was my first Maiden album (lol, on cassette!) Bruce is all I’ve ever known. I stopped listening when he left.
Wasn’t even aware there was another lead before him, man I’m ignorant on all things music.

I began my journey into Maiden in the 7th grade with Powerslave.

Since my mother bought it, I got the album with the least offensive cover in the era of the Satanic Panic. Her son already had Monster Manuals (1st Edition) to summon those demons with the special dice! 😂.

Passed away at 66 years of age, think it's safe to say his lifestyle probably caught up with him. Loved his raw sounding vocals on the first couple of Maiden albums.
Wow, only 66? I forget just how young a lot of these guys were getting started out, sometimes even into their teens.

RIP. I can listen to Paul and Bruce interchangeably. I love what he brought to maiden.

I’ve been an Iron Maiden fan as long as I can remember, and I love and appreciate every phase they’ve been through over the years. I love the Paul phase, the Bruce, and yes even the Blaze songs before Bruce and Adrian came back.

Early Maiden with Paul was fuckin awesome. RIP my man

Man, i understand that Maiden were one of the bands that belonged to the whole - new then - NWOBH but you can still tell the Punk influences in the first 2 albums (Iron Maiden, Killers) and Di'Anno's raw, raspy voice suited them to a T...
Then came Bruce and the band's sound changed which is perfectly OK since times also changed and he was also - arguably - the best vocalist between the 2 IMO, still, can't deny the fact that Di'Anno gave Maiden their original signature sound back then and that he'll forever and always be appreciated and remembered by the fans...

RIP you magnificent fat bastard, /goes and plays Wrathchild

Had Iron Maiden (self titled) playing in my car earlier
and this came up :

Man, what a great, great fucking song and the thing is that it has this...Pink Floyd-ish mellow sound/feeling.

Then you also have :

and, fuck man, I just can't...

End of an era really - something which is going to get worse when all these amazing mega-bands will someday cease to exist ☹️

Well, fuck me. Why the hell have I never listened to these guys before!

Awsome stuff man, and these guys are English? What the fuck :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Where have I been.
Uh holy fuck, which album did you start with? Check the first 2 out then go to the stuff with Bruce. Number of the beast, piece of mind, Powerslave, Somewhere in time(my favorite) and seventh son. After that run they started to slowly decline a bit but Theu are still awesome. No prayer for the dying and fear of the dark. Skip the ones when Bruce left and instead listen to his 2 solo albums Accident of Birth and Chemical wedding. They are more maiden than Maiden was at that time. Then pick up when he came back but be warned that post 2000 maiden is nothing like early maiden. Fuck I wish I was you 😂😂😂

Make sure you check out their live stuff too. They're one of those bands that are not only great performing live but in many cases, even better than in studio. Fear of the Dark (song) is great on album but the live performance is another level.

The first song I'd found was Wasted years, sooo, I instantly bought Somewhere in time on CD for the car (I drive a lot) :messenger_tears_of_joy:

But will certainly be checking out the rest :messenger_sunglasses:

It's so weird though, I remember the albums etc with Eddie on from the 80's, never looked into it and have never even heard them before, they've never come up in playlists, I don't know anyone who listens to them either

Very odd. And I listen to anything and everything going (Except shitty 90's cheesy R&B. Or Happy Hardcore, urgh)

Looks like I've found some bangers here though. Cheers for the suggestions :messenger_bicep:

Nice one, I'll check it out :messenger_sunglasses:

My youth wouldn't be complete without the "Piece of Mind" album.

Just listen to the first 5 songs back to back.
Bought them all from a 2nd hand record shop in 84, put Piece of Mind on first and heard Where Eagles Dare for the 1st time, and that was it, i was hooked, Maiden for life, saw them at Hammersmith Odeon and Wembley Arena and at Donington multiple times back then in the 80's and the last concert i went to, Iron Maiden up here in the North East 6 years ago all because of the 1st song off Piece of Mind, great album.

They weren't really a radio band and didn't get a lot of airplay (anecdotal experience and what I've heard) but their fantastic live shows, badass merch featuring Eddie and general word of mouth elevated them.

I shit you not, this is exactly the sound I've been yearning for nigh on 25+ years!!

I've played everything, and I mean everything! to overkill and nothing really 'got' it, if that makes sense..

It's totally bullshit though the only way I found it was the main singer dying and reading it on here, that's just too weirdly ironic to me.

But, I won't be forgetting him now anytime soon, that's for damn sure :messenger_sunglasses:

...I know my wife's going to give the 'You're just having a mid life crisis' horse shit as I'm busting it out down the M4 :messenger_tears_of_joy:

No you're right, not once did I ever hear them being played on air, and hell, I dread to even turn on the radio these days. I think the last station I listened to was Radio 1 that had Lizo on, that lasted a whole 1.5 seconds

Have a listen to the Song The Duellists off of Powerslave. IMO one of the best mid sections ever written. Been listening to that song for 40 years and it still gives me goosebumps. 🤘🤘

Just to let ya know, Paul was the singer for only the first 2 albums. Bruce has been the main singer for 95% of all the albums that followed. Those first 2 albums are completely different to the ones that followed. More gritty and punk influenced. Still awesome though.

Love the first two albums and the X Factor album with Blaze. Don’t care for the Dickinson stuff, most of it sounds the same.

Powerslave and Brave New World are worlds apart but I get Bruce isn't for everyone.

I'd highly recommend old maiden fans checking out their new stuff if they haven't already.
