Radeon HD 7900 Launch set for December 22nd, 2011 - R1000 | Tahiti | GCN

how long will be the 7970 ? I have a 5850 Toxic edition, and fits my case, and there's a little more space but not so much. Who know something ?

That's what I did, but it's not as intuitive as you'd think it would be. There's no way to easily manage two displays natively in Windows, it's a lot of manual settings and trial and error, and that's before you start dealing with audio streams. For me, having multiple audio output is gonna be awesome.

I don't even want separate streams, I was wondering more about the mechanics of long distance connection. But it would be nice to know the two devices can be used independently.

If you don't mind using regular thickness HDMI cables, or even flat HDMI cables, you won't have a problem. I had to use the thin ones and those definitely have a maximum length so I had to use an extender. Just as an FYI, contrary to what I've heard on this board you definitely can have a corrupted signal if your cable is too long for its size but at 20 feet you shouldn't have any problems even with the thinnest cables.

Right now I am trying to figure out if I can fish a cable through the wall. If so, it would be infinitely easier. Thanks for the advice.

It's funny that you mention running hdmi from your pc to your tv. I just did that today. I believe the best way to send hdmi over longer distances is to use hdmi over cat6. Here is what I used and it worked perfectly:
http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=104&cp_id=10425&cs_id=1042501&p_id=8200&seq=1&format=2

I also bought 2 cat6 cables and 2 single gang wall brackets and I had to run to hardware store for some self cutting screws to mount the Hdmi wall plate to the wall bracket. It was super easy actually.

xbmc (and most media players) can already output to a specific device, ie. your tv, allowing you to leave everything else defaulted to your desktop. windows key + p handles two monitors fine, or for your use case, just keep it in extended mode

Can't wait till we get some real performance graphs. I truly hope for the best; hell, might even upgrade if the performance is good enough.

would be interested to see how their new AF/texture filtering is. I have two systems, one Nvidia, on AMD and I find AF is not quite as sharp on AMD but Nvidia has white outlines/shimmering on stuff.

2 more days... let's hope AMD puts MSRP of the 7970 @ $400. If Amazon will sell me a 7970 for $400 MSRP with no tax, I'll definitely be buying day 1.

A whopping 3% increase over gtx580 in Skyrim!

Outside of that, the cards look pretty good, and will hopefully cause nvidia to finally start dropping prices on 5 series cards.

One thing that looked odd to me above: a 6970 is shown to have better performance in Arkham City than a 580? Is such a thing even possible?

They are makin comparissons with a card that may be ending 1/2 as fast as the new GTX780. This generation Nvidia will have no competition if really the GTX 780 has 1024 shader cores.

I'm going to be building a new PC around the end of January or the beginning of February. I wonder what the pricing information is going to be on a 7970.

My guess is around $500+, I don't think I'll be willing to pay that unless I can put away a good amount of money in the next couple of months.

AMD will probably have the refresh (8000 series) out not long after the high end GTX700 series get released. If that roadmap for Kepler was legit, the high end GPUs (770/780) are probably not coming out until July or so.

Yeah, and they will most probably add XDR in their top 8xxx models.

Why the fuck would you use Skyrim as a benchmark for anything? Might as well compare it to the PS3 version.

Anyway, so far so good if those numbers are real. Waiting for power consumption numbers.

Yeah, Skyrim looks to be the anomaly there and from what I've been reading, is heavily cpu limited. Thus, which card you use will have little impact on performance.

Numbers look really good for games, but not at all for 3DMark11, which is suspect. Hopefully this isn't a case of AMD's traditional "optimizations" (i.e. major image quality reduction) to reach certain performance numbers.

Looking good, here's hoping 2012 brings us actual pc titles that can utilize this kind of hardware.

The sad thing is as much as I want this card, I'd probably have to end up buying a new monitor too. 1080p isn't going to be stressed at all :(
