Another good tip I can give is if your hair is getting too greasy, especially in the beginning, use a comb or brush and go through it with that and your hands under some hot water to smooth it out. It helps a lot before things even out.

Hmm, I'm seeing some positive responses in this thread, so I guess I'll give it a try.

What about pubic areas, though? Do you guys use any soap there? I think I'll need to at least do those areas with soap.

Soap should only ever touch your hands, feet, gooch and asshole if needed.

Gaf, i stop using shampoo but ireplaced it with soap.

Do i stop using soap at all?? Just water??? What about stink gaf?

Just water. Don't be a pussy.

To those of you avoiding using soap, please as a courtesy to others, don't shake anyones hand. If I try to shake your hand after you take a piss and grab your penis just say "sorry, I don't use soap" and I'll know not to shake your hand.

I still use soap on my hands when they get dirty.

However, haven't you learned to piss without touching your dick yet? Just unbutton, pull your undies down past your dick and then pull them back up to make a cock hammock and pee. Then unhammock and zip back up.

No dick to hands contact at all. Baller.

Well after a month and a half, I can't go any further without shampoo. My scalp is in a pretty bad condition. It's much more itchy and I have had more skin flakes. It's almost like my scalp is falling apart like something from The Fly (well not that bad but you get my point).

I only used shampoo twice throughout the experience and showered my hair just about everyday.

same boat. going on about a month and a half, i shampoo and soap once a week. hair and skin feel fine/good no problems there really but my scalp is itchy and consistently flakey. not really sure what's up? summer is usually the best time of year for my scalp and right now it's pretty bad. not sure if i need to keep sticking it out or what.

Not that I look any good to begin with, but after I stopped using soap/body wash on my body, my legs are no longer dominated by pimples and zits. There's still a few, but it's no longer as horrendous.

I'm out!

After a month of no shampoo, I had the most ridiculous dandruff. As soon as I used shampoo, most of it went away.

It was a fun experiment, but it's one that I will never try again.

I can't even remember the last time I shampoo'd and I'm getting nearly daily complements on my hair. Maybe you dandruff dudes should stick it out, I had some maybe a month or so in but I'm completely free of it now.

I've only used shampoo once (barber made me, ruined my hair for a week) in the past five years, and at one point I developed a bit of a dandruff problem. I started using apple cider vinegar (1 part water / 1 part ACV) in my hair, and it works wonders! It eats away all the flakes, and leaves your hair all oily and luxurious. I use it once or twice a week (I shower almost daily), and haven't had a problem since. It's super cheap, and one bottle will last you at least a month.

i shower twice a day, could this cause flakes? also i'm almost always in an air conditioned or dehumidified environment (aka dry air) so i'm wondering if that has anything to do with it.

either way, the flakes are bad and i need a fix but i really would like to continue not using shampoo.

I started off really happy with the results. The first 4 weeks were good.

Then it just kept getting progressively worse and I couldn't deal with it anymore.

I don't shower every day. I'd say try that. Of course, I don't live the kind of lifestyle where I need to leave the house every single day so that might not be an option for you.

Twice a day is def. too much. Unless you bathe in shit two times a day or something ;)

You don't have to wash your hair every day. And only take short showers.

I had times in my life where my hygene was sloppy but basic changed clothes and deo go a long way. And washed hair. Nowadays, special shampoo but only when I see my hair getting visibly fatty.

I am on a middle road, on demand hair shampoo, special body wash for the hygene areas and the rest water. Works very well, I used to have such dry skin. Nowadays it's pretty balanced.

So, over a month so far... And my hair doesn't really get oily anymore. The first two weeks or so it did.

Wow, this is pretty cool.

I'm about a month and a half in and have pretty bad dandruff and itchy, raw scalp. It went away for the first month or so, but recently it's been really itchy and flaky. I take a shower a day or less and scrub my scalp with my finger pads or nails using hot water. Should I do something different? I really like how my hair looks and feels, the oiliness balanced out early on and I can move it however I want, so I don't want to start using head and shoulders again. This dandruff and itchiness is getting pretty bad though. I shook my hand through my hair on a black table and it was like a parmesan shaker.

I was wondering why there are so many responses to this thread. Turns out people are trying this?...Whatever floats your boat.

So for people who've been doing this..
have you been using colognes/perfumes or body sprays?

Checking in on this thread...I use cologne on my wrists or clothing so I don't know if that should matter that much...but if you're worried about the smell getting stale on you, I personally believe that one should fight chemicals with chemicals so maybe just use soap on the particular areas that you are worried about. I mean, stuff like ink and oil don't come off with just hot water.

Today is the first day I didn't shower for work...woke too late, had to get going, I've done next to nothing physically in the last 36 hours to require a shower, but I feel so oily...eck.

I couldn't do this.

If you did this, you'd still be taking showers daily.

I'm out too, after about two months (I think). My main issue was also the dandruff, specifically all the build up on my scalp. I was unable to control it via scouring with fingertips, and it just got to be too much. Plus, my hair color had taken on a shade several darker than normal, and had a greasy look to it. It worked well for a few weeks, but I just couldn't sustain it. I'm back on my crazy expensive shampoo and conditioner, and my hair felt great from the first use.

Interesting experiment, and I learned something about my body - it was rejecting shampoo, rather than an innate scalp problem - but I couldn't keep it going.

Your skin or your hair?

It's been about 4 months and I'm always good, I think my hair is better than ever. It gets oily if I don't shower for a day but that happened before as well. Overall, my hair is much easier to deal with and my skin looks better.

I can't see this working for me at all. Even after 3 days of no shampoo my hair starts to feel greasy and smell a bit.

Yeah this shocked me too. I have no need to try it, when I was a boy I would skip days without a shower. The consequences were terrrrrrrible, but I did it anyway. Didnt give a rats ass then, but I was like 10.

I don't use shampoo or any cleaning products for my hair typically. I do every now and then when it actually gets dirty, but when it's just oil; that's solved with simply water after you're not using shampoo on a regular basis. It works really well for my hair, I would really suggest people to stop using their harsh soaps and stuff, at least for your hair. Just use water and try it for a few weeks; eventually things really do level out.

But I don't usually use soap for my body either, just time to time when I really do get dirty... or smelly. Thing is, this doesn't work for me with body order. When I sweat it still has that effect so I still use deodorants. Same with acne, I've tried cutting out face wash at a time before and it certainly didn't help make my skin that was effected any less inflamed.

Have you just used water?

interesting. i use soap but i practically never wash my back or legs (other than letting water just run over them while in the shower), and they seem fine.

True, I shower on my back but never wash it with soap most of time.
I have quite perfect baby skin on my back and legs. I have little spots on my chest and lower face where I usually rub harder.

I think it is depend what you eating. Some foods can lead more greasy and smelly B.O.

I gel my hair every day so this wouldn't work for me but I wish I'd tried it back when my hair was long. If I didn't shower every day it would become such a pain in the ass to wash/dry my hair every day.

So when this guy did a shower for a year without soap, did he still scrub his skin with a loofa or did he simply let the water run on him?

Yeah, I've also been doing this for a very long time now. To wash your hair, what i do is I kind of rub my hair while the water flows through it. I do not scratch it. I kind of just aggressively rub it.

I used to have terrible dandruff where I would just have to scratch my head and it would just fall out non stop. No more. It's just really nice.

6 months strong.

Skin smooth, smell good.

Probably helps that im skinny though. If I had layers, I probably would have been arrested by now.

I haven't used soap or shampoo or conditioner in my hair for years. Just water. My hair soft and great other than the few dreads I have.

I only use soap in some areas of my body. But I haven't used it on my face for years. My skin has been amazing - haven't had a pimple in years.

Ladies are always around too. I think a lot of people should try this out. It's kind of tough, but once you reach the first month hurdle, it's smooth sailing. I don't think I'll go back.

Edit: honestly, my only issues with smell are from cooking and people smoking around me. Never BO.

What do you use for beard trimming? Straight-up razor and water? Shaving gel?

I use an eletric trimmer. It gets a really close shave. Then I use a simple bic shaver with water. It's not tough and never feels against the grain.

I use the electric trimmer mostly because I have to trim and shape the beast.

Everyone's scalp isn't the same. Neither is their hair or skin.

How many black people or others with a diverse ethnic background handle this? I know black people like me need grease or oil in their scalp so it doesn't dry out. I'm not interested in doing this, just curious as to how it worked out for them.

I have stopped using shampoo/conditioner for about 6 months now. I use Shea butter to moisturize my scalp outside of the shower and I have seen a significant drop in dry scalp/dandruff. I have a low cut ceasar btw.

Haven't shampood my hair since June and I get compliments all the time from people and hair stylists. My hair looks darker, and they ask if I dye it. It also has good hold, and they ask what kind of product I use and say it almost looks like I use none. I just say "Natural oils".

I have been doing this since the thread was originally posted.

I needed to pick up shampoo and facial wash after about 2 weeks, because the oil was just too gross. Greasy hair and blackheads.

However, I've only been using body wash once per month – and the benefits are clear. I get far fewer body pimples. Surprisingly, I sweat less than before under the same conditions.

I would like to see a Mythbusters on this topic, but for me, cleansers making you less hygienic is duly "Confirmed."

I need a lot of gel for my hair to look decent. How could I not use shampoo? Water is not enough to remove it.

I am switching to a safer shower gel, shampoo and deodorant though. It's shocking how much toxic chemicals there are in most products.

This thread is really gross. Are you guys really not shampooing and not using soap? Wtf

Believe it or not, but it actually does work. I haven't used soap or shampoo for over a year now. Well, I do still use soap on my hands, especially when I get them real dirty or greasy working on the car or the Harley. My skin is much more healthy than it has ever been, my hair is MUCH more healthy and soft (no more dry scalp syndrome), and yes I smell wonderful naturally. I've gotten more compliments on the way I smell in the past year than I have in my entire life. It makes me smile every time, because of the simple irony that I don't use soap anymore.

I do take a shower every day, and I scrub with water and a washcloth. I find that scrubbing my hair is especially important. But it does really work.

lol do any of you actually have a girlfriend? cause you guys stink, no doubt

Yeah I have a girlfriend. She agrees 100% that it has worked wonderfully for me. She is going to try it herself this fall. The hardest part for her will be her long hair. The hair takes a month or so to stabilize, and it can get pretty bad during that month, lol.

Yeah, pretty gross.

It may seem that way, but it's really not. But whatever, believe what you want. :)
