Randy Pitchford Regarding BL4 potentially costing $80: "If You’re a Real Fan, You’ll Find a Way to Make It Happen"

It will take 900 hours to finish the main campaign!

so it's worth it
900 hours of millennial humour and modern day Gearbox shenanigans, sounds like a joy

..I believe in you!

Tbf, the previous bl3 has a lot of bugs , I think just wait for sale is the best option here . And I like the bl series.

$80 for borderlands? No freaking way. I'm a fan but the games are pretty played out at this point. I didn't get far in tiny Tina's at all

I'll probably wait for a deep sale since they hit £20 within a couple months anyway. I enjoy the combat and art style, but everything else is a bit shit. The humour (if you can call it that) is incredibly annoying and it's not at all funny, claptrap is especially grating.

I did enjoy the spin off that come out a couple years back but that's probably because I was very much into D&D at the time. Otherwise I only finished the first game and even that was a bit of a struggle.

Honestly i feel like this industry is about to implode.

If these developers and publishers think we're spending 80 bucks multiple times a month...or even a year, they are out of their goddamn minds.

As i always say: vote with your wallets!

And to top it off is the actual quality of these games. Half of them are the most infantile, homogenised, utterly politically correct pieces of made by committee garbage you could imagine

Of which you probably wouldn't to play for free.

That's not even th worst part...the fact these 80 dollar games are releasing unfinished and you need to wait for god knows how many patches is...something.

And even worst? None of these companies is making less money. They are making more each year lol.

Aye, I really can see the whole AAA scene having a bit of an implosion in the coming years. It's just not sustainable if they carry on taking the routes they are.

I think the messaging behind this is that many people find ways to save and buy what they want. Those annual $1000+ GPUs people buy is something they want and find ways to get it.

Obviously if you're not a fan or it's not worth the price tag, skip past the message and spend your money where you really want to. I saw that Apple Vision Pro for $3400. I can't find a way to buy it but I'm not even interested in it anyway. Easy pass regardless of whatever they're trying to sell me.

And so it begins. It's the problem with variable pricing: if you're in the AAA space and you want your title to be perceived as a "big game", you have to follow suite on pricing otherwise you're a "budget title". And no publisher in their right mind would want that kind of perception for their big budget game.

Sony gave us a USD$70.00 standard after nearly two straight decades of a USD$60.00 standard.
Now we're at USD$80.00 standard less than five years later.
I'd wager we'll be at USD$90.00 as standard for next gen.

We're in the "irrational exuberance" part of the bubble now. With these kinds of prices and budgets, it's gonna be downright filthy when it bursts.
Take 2 did this announcing $70 for NBA2K. Then Activision announced it for Black Ops Cold War shortly after. This was in August 2020. Everyone in the industry followed suit when the next-gen consoles launched.

Activision was the first to boost it from $50 to $60 in the PS360 gen. Most first party held back at $50, until Halo 3, which was MSFT's first $60 game that gen.

This is the same clown, who paid for a girls squirting video, downloaded it, put it on a damn thumb drive, took it to Medieval Times restaurant and left it there lol

In what scenario would you need to take your downloaded porn video with you on the go? WTF man lol also who pays for porn and downloads it? too much free shit avail

I'm a real fan, I got platinum trophy on almost every Borderlands game to date. I still play BL3 couch co-op splitscreen with my daughter weekly and BL4 is my most anticipated game.

No, I won't be paying $80 for it.

I have truck payments, rent, 3 kids to pay for, insurance, gas, food... it goes on and on.

No I won't be finding a way and no I will not be buying it at $80.

I'll pick up the $30 ultimate edition 2 years from now if you're lucky and nothing else is occupying me at that time.

You guys need ME more than I need YOU and you seem to forget that.

A man of culture. A porn addict most likely. Maybe he had to refuel from all the gooning and stopped by at the Medieval Times restaurant. We've all been there.

What an asshole of a comment, fuck him. I'm gonna go out of my way to not even buy it on sale, I'm just gonna wait till it hits a streaming service.

It's just going to take a few games bombing for publisher to realize people aren't willing to pay up $80 or $90 for just about any game.
There's some outlier like GTA, popular Nintendo franchises, COD, etc that can get away with it.

For everyone else though

A fact they conveniently leave out whenever this topic comes up.

I have noticed that no matter how many times this simple fact is pointed out, there are those that simply will not accept it. As someone who prefers to stick to factual information, even if I don't like it, I find it very odd - saying something over and over, which is easily debunked, will not make it true.

Stupid comment, but $80 will likely just be the industry standard when this releases.
Only if people keep accepting it. The amount of corporate defenders here and on other websites is disgusting. While publishers are making billions each year in profits, they feel the need to gaslight us and make people think the rise in price is justified.

And the sad fanboys who cant keep themselves in check, just gotta get my latest toy! No matter the price!

Or wait for the $30 sale...and influencers will be sure to tell you what the meta build and what the best guns are. Which of course will save you lots of time. Unless BL4 is as great as Elden Ring(example) in scope and longevity I don't think the $80 price is worth it.
Randy "Handsome Jack" Pitchford wants to say that BL4 is using double the budget BL3 had and to me that is just a big red flag that it's wasting money when other games from Indies are made with lower budgets and have much lower staff.

I think people complaining about need to realize that if the market isn't expanding fast enough to offset additional costs incurred by inflation, then prices are going to continue to rise across the board.

The market is no longer expanding like that, hasn't for quite some time, and the trend doesn't look like its going to change any time soon.

You don't have to like it, but you need to accept the inevitability of games and gaming increasing in cost going forwards.

He is right. games have been 50-80$ for last 30 years.
The only reason all this gamers whining has done, is creating stupidly long open world bloated games to "justify" this price.
I loved the 360/ps3. Games were 50-60, perfect length and single player.
"gamers whining" What about YOUR whining?

And what about the inflation that people have been subjected to for years? You are forgetting one essential thing: purchasing power has decreased very sharply over all these years, which means that people have less money to invest in leisure activities. What's this nonsense, even for you Rofif? Don't you think people would like to buy every game they are interested in even at $100 if they could? You are also forgetting the means put in place by these companies such as MTX, battle passes, season passes, etc. etc. Video games have never been as profitable as in recent years with record profits but yes, let's increase the price of games even more. What could go wrong?

Finally, it's not my fault if budgets are exploding because studios are over bloated, or if legendary studios like Bioware are pulling out turd after turd. If the games are "not profitable enough," maybe these publishers should consider making good games again, because good games make money.
