Rank these six god of war games

They are all good, for different reasons. Id's say the best videogame is still GoW 2018, and most entertaining GoW III.
But I just love them all, including Ascension.

I haven't played Ragnarök yet. I liked 2018 better than the previous entries, but I liked them all. So for me it's 2018 followed by the rest in whatever order with the newest one TBD.

God of War 2
God of War 2018
God of War 1
God of War Ragnarok
God of War 3
God of War Ghost of Sparta

It's weird because Ragnarok level design, especially in an optional and borderline hidden open world section is by far the best in the series and even peak in gaming imo, it's just perfect, boss battles (mostly the optional in said place) were fucking ace, scope and "quality" in it are light years above 2018, combat is expanded, graphics improved.. and yet I somehow still prefer 2018.
It felt better to play in a more "hardcore gamey" kind of way, more "honest" and better written, and the sheer power of some intimate sequences haven't been topped by the epicness of Ragnarok to me.
Some says Kratos just evolved, but I don't care, I prefer my "Boi" and "Speak, head" Kratos to the one in Ragnarok. Given the current trends it could have been infintely worse, but still.
GoW 2018 was also made retroactively better by Ragnarok contextualization, and was basically my favorite game of all time already.

Of the old games, which feel basically written by children, I miss Greece alot. Aestethic and Mythology were just a million time more charming to me, and the almost disturbing levels of violence along with nudity made them a truly unique package.

I would love to return to Greece with the new systems, but they would need to feel at least as honest and pure as GoW 2018 was, and I'm afraid that would never happen these days. So better not mess with them until a cultural shift. They still look good anyway, and Ascension and GoW III even stunning to this day.

So there are people thinking genuinely that God of War ragnarok is the best god of war?

What The Fuck GIF

Here's how it all shakes out if you consider the 3 top responses from each person and by assigning a score of 3, 2, 1 for first, second, third place. Parsing wasn't perfect and not everyone played all games. Didn't expect II to outclass III, but both were quite good. Seems 2018 is also enjoyed, but not as much as those originals. GoW:R needs more people to play it for a fair shake.

Are people ranking them worst to best or best to worst in their lists?

Because it's surprising seeing Ragnarok already slotting into the rankings so low.

Gamespot started a tweet, thought I'd spread it here as its slow and shit at the moment:

I haven't played Ghost of Sparta (Should I? If it even possible on PC) and Ragnarok (can't say I'm looking forward to play it at all after 2018 game gameplay and design-wise - ugh), but as far as I'm concerned and from what I've played.

1) God of War 3
2) God of War 2
3) God of War

God of War 2018 and Ragnarok are for sure will be at the very bottom of the list and it doesn't matter to me if setting, story and characters are good if I don't like actually playing the game and what it is gameplay and design-wise.

Mind you, they're all pretty good to great games. Ragnarok being last doesn't make it bad.

I also rate it like that, tho i think i'm about half way through Ragnarok.
And back then the GoW 1-3 was really something special.. today i prefer the 2018 and Ragnarok gameplay and plot/characters, so it's kinda hard to judge, 1-3 was amazing for that period, and now the sequel feels also awesome.

It's amazing how many people regard gameplay as the most important aspect of a game (which it is) and yet prefer extremely basic ones who basically played themselves over layered and skill-based systems.

U can´t really rank the reboot together with the older games. Also the PSP-games are missing.
Why?
And it's not really a reboot, the only thing that was rebooted was the game engine, it's still continues the same story and is connected, so more if new chapter.

In my opinion the original trilogy is more epic and chaotic.

Well the gameplay to me is totally different, 1-3 are more arcadey like, tho they have their advantages like jumping and platforming, also it's been a while since i played 1-3 but puzzles felt better?
Now 2018 plays different to me, starting with the camera, and the Leviathan Axe, and the whole gameplay feels like a different game.
I like them both but today i think i like 2018 and Ragnarok more.

Well the gameplay is what got rebooted, a bit like RE>RE4.
But the person I quoted sounded like they was suggesting the games can't be ranked together because the newer are Rebooted when really they're not, it still a continuation, they just evolved in gameplay.

GoW 2018 > God of War 3 > God of War 2 > GoW Ragnarok > GoW

God Of War 2 is the best in the series.

God Of War 3 is an epic conclusion to the series; boss battles were incredible.

God Of War 2018 is quite good

God Of War Ragnarok is simply too slow

Haven't played 6, but it's pretty much going to be 5 anyways, so it'll slot in above or below 5.

Not sure why they didn't include the other games?

I'm the opposite, I am surprised people are ranking Ragnarok that high. I assume a lot of this is influenced by it just coming out and being fresh in people's minds.

I think my order would be:
God of War II
God of War: Ghost of Sparta
God of War
God of III
God of War: Chains of Olympus
God of War (2018)

I have never played Ascension or Ragnarok. I am very surprised at the reception that the 2018 got though. I did not enjoy it at all, from a gameplay perspective. Excellent graphics, voice-acting, visual design, etc... But super basic gameplay. I was bored for quite a lot of it.

Written by children? No. That was Rag.

1. Ragnarok
2. GoW 2018
3. GoW 1 = 2 = 3 (I like them all, but no preference between them)

I haven't played Ghost of Sparta. It would be a great time to bring that to PS+ Premium, Sony.

  • GOW III - Full Smoke Kratos
  • GOW II - We want da Smoke Kratos
  • GOW '18 - Meh
  • GOW '22 - Meh again
  • The rest of 'em - meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
TL; DR - God of War III dassit

It's hard to say because in many ways they're consistent yet unique too...shit XD

I love the combat in 1, you can bounce enemies around in crazy ways which got a bit nerfed in 2 and 3
2 is my favorite overall, the one I have the most memories with and crazy cliffhanger which got followed up perfectly in 3
3 is epic in scale and scope, and many of the gods were fought in that one which is awesome
love the PSP games as well, they're on par with the console games in spite of controller limitations which were worked around in great ways
Didn't like Ascension much single player, the multiplayer was an interesting experiment

2018 wasn't too shabby, didn't play Ragnarok (yet)
