Rare Replay |OT| Jetpacks and Googly Eyes, Here We Come

Just beat Perfect Dark - I don't think I've played the campaign for 15 years, and I've forgotten so much of it... like that the game has disguises. Didn't forget that fucking explosive crate escort mission, though. Wow.

You know, you don't even need the explosive crate. Just toss a Dragon in secondary fire mode at the wall and shoot it.

Completed every milestone and snapshot for Jetpac! I've never been as huge fan of it, but after playing it enough to get the milestones i actually like it. One down twenty nine to go...

I just grabbed a giant rat by the balls and repeatedly punched him in the dick until he turned into a pile of bones in Battletoads Arcade.

Yep, the game is awesome!!!

Feel like I'm running into a lot of glitches... Sound not mixed well or failing to register, RC Pro not picking up that I'm holding the accelerate button, etc.

Fuck me this Snapshot 5 for Saberwulf is impossible. Sometimes there is an invincible enemy in the way that won't move meaning you have to waste a life and I don't even know where the door is. Plus the weird momentum stuff where sometimes you stop when you let off the d-pad and sometimes you stop 5 spaces away.

Battletoads looks ugly as fuck with the default filter. Like, it's so bad, I wonder if it's glitched or something. All the details present in the NES original seem to have decomposed into brown and green pixels. The retro filter brings it closer to how it originally looked, but that filter in general is like a gross exaggeration of how games on a CRT used to look.

That aside, this collection marks the first time I've played Banjo Kazooie, despite owning an N64 back in the day. I feel like a complete tool for having passed it over.

No, preloaded everything last night.

Hmm. Odd. Someone else had the same problem earlier in the thread. For me those issues went away when my xbox was done downloading stuff. Not just Rare Replay stuff, but other items in my queue as well. It seemed very sensitive to HDD load for some reason.

I'd go through the usual motions of hard rebooting the xbox and firing everything back up, but that didn't seem to help for the other guy. :/

Man, it really felt great to go back and play through some 8 and 16 bit games that I was too young to play as a kid. Really took me back. Biggest difference between now and then is that most of the early Rare games just can't hold my attention for long (Sabrewulfe, Gunstringer, etc.). Still great fun to try out though.

I especially enjoy how they weave a sort of narrative in a compilation like this. You can see their style of games emerging over the course of all of these. A lot of it predates my time playing games, and I kinda checked in around 90, 91 in time for Battletoads and what not, but there's value in giving those earlier ones a whirl anyway precisely because they create context.

I'm surprised at the number of people who have played some of the more well known games for the first time by buying this collection. You would think most gamers (especially on GAF) have played these games at some point. ._.

Anyone regret their purchase?

The performance issues and the fact that I have a hard time of knowing if I want to revisit old games again has me hesitant after initially being hyped for it. Xbox store credits just sitting there

Nope. I'm very glad I spend $30 on it.

Oof, hope the performance problems get resolved eventually. :/

I'm on the fence on buying an Xbox One for this game. If I spend that much cash on this then I would do so knowing that I have the definitive versions of some of my all-time favorite games in 1 disc. After all, there's not much point going in if I'm just going to go back to play Banjo-Kazooie on my 360 or N64. :p

Man grabbed by the ghoulies looks good. if they did the xbox version of Conker, it would probably have been one of the best looking games on the one.

Really wish there was an infinite continues cheat in Battletoads. I'd like to defeat it at full difficulty, just without being forced to start the whole game over after so many continues. Rewind and infinite lives is just cheap.

It's too bad that the N64 stuff doesn't perform better. It's a little shameful, even. But at the end of the day, as far as I can tell they still perform better overall, and they're just about as playable as they always were. If instead of hopes of getting a spruced up version of something you adjust your expectations to just having access to all of it in a loving package, it's absolutely worth it.

Except for the XBLA versions of the Banjos and Perfect Dark, of course - which are excellent remasters. They're kkkinda what at least Blast Corps deserved. Arguably Jet Force Gemini, also.

So how long do I have to freaking wait before I can play this game?

I put the disc in and it added a ton of games to my queue, and it's taking a VERY long time to install them. I don't want to play any of those games right now. I want to play Blast Corps, damnit.

:|

(note: when I go to Rare Replay on the list in my Queue and hit "resume download", nothing happens and it just stays at "Queued" permanently. This is a complete joke.

Stop the other ones instead. There are a lot of them, granted, but it'll make Rare Replay download.

Sorry, but how do you save XBOX 360 games? I am playing Banjo Kazooie.

The XBLA/Xbox 360 bc games you save through each individual game's own interface. There's no save states or anything for those.

They're literally all set to Queued. None of them are moving. Connected to live and everything.

edit: cancelled the download of every single game on the queued list except rare replay and it worked. What the heck is the disc for if it was that complicated

I was wondering how do they deal with the implications of using emulators for the Nintendo platform games? How do they avoid the legal stuff? Do they rework the entire game using the original assets?

Yah, that was meant to be my suggestion. I'm sorry if I phrased it poorly. :)

The options menu actually has an infinite lives toggle!

Banjo-Kazooie saves automatically after you go through a door or pick up certain items.

Edit: If I pick it up, there's no reason to play the first VP over Trouble in Paradise, right?

I don't think there is any real need to play the first one over TiP, unless you just want to see any changes.

TiP is like the first game but with an expansion pack/dlc. It's just extra things on top of the first game really.

First time ever playing grabbed by the ghoulies, just beat chapter 1. Is there a way to go back or to track how many of the rare books you have found?

So if you already purchased the Xbox 360 copy of one of the games, do you just have a second version in your library now? Is there no way to get rid of the second one?

No, I mean Continues. Like, whenever you run out of lives, and you select continue at the Game Over screen and start at the beginning of the stage. However, after (5 I think?) continues, you get a true Game Over and have to start the whole game over from the start.

I want to still get Game Overs when I run out of lives and have to start the stage over, but never have to start the whole game over again from the start.

With infinite lives, you just forever respawn where you died, and it takes a huge chunk of the challenge away.

Never played Conker until now and I'm loving it. I honestly didn't expect to actually laugh while playing this.

I want a sequel :'(

Game crashed after I got 1:48 on turbo tunnel snapshot. (give me time to get back into it, that time will increase. This is my flappy bird)
