Astrobot
Anything else new is pure trash or useless
Concord is a chinese Rip off of "Guardians of the Galaxy" hero shooter
Chinese shit with future graphic downgrade
Chinese shit with loli
Chinese shit copypasted from other chinese shit
Silent Hill remade with visual style and gameplay from previous console generation
God of war Ragnarok PC no one will buy but PC chads are happy because they could
The game I found more fascinating except for Astro is the new Musou from Omega Force

It's a State of Play not a showcase and as such a B (going off what to expect from a State of Play, almost an A because Astro Bot looks sooo good)

Gave it an E, change to D with seeing more trailers again, will have to say dynasty warriors origins is the title I'll most likely play if I have to pick one, at least KT and omega force is pretty good at character design, hopefully they won't let me down on this front. monster hunter wilds, may be, infinity nikki, may be, char design is certainly better than sony's first party's.

The hardest of Ds. Overwhelming majority of the show was absolute trash and a bunch of VR shit mainstream gamers can't even afford to play. A remake of a game that's only a generation old, a port of a two year old game to PC, Silent Hill 2 (2024) which Konami is already hyping in its own Silent Hill Transmission event, and a new Astro Bot which actually looks great but is hardly redeeming.

Most of this SoP was complete and utter garbage I wouldn't play for free on PS+. Where's something to get genuinely excited about? It's a bunch of samey games we've seen hundreds of times before. Even the new IPs looked tired and desperate to remind us of other, more classic games. Sony, you committed a great sin today. You wasted people's time.

A+ because of Infinity Nikki (gave it a C because of Astro and Ballad of Antara looks cool + ok stuff) expectations were at a low

C because Astro got an S++ from me, and everything elde pretty much eas mediocre at best, eith Concord being a huge disappointment.

Ballad of Antara looked interesting, just cautious as it's apparently free to play so...

Where winds meet, still looks great, a bit of Nioh meets Sekiro, so let's fucking go.

The VR titles looked good too, so let's see about that. The rest I really don't care for, but glad some do.

Pretty bad, D

Gave it points for: Dynasty warriors not being dead, Astrobot looking good and Silent Hill 2 release date. Everything else was not for me at all

Astro Bot and PoE 2 saved this. PoE2 was megaton for me, completely caught me off guard. Day one on that for sure.

D.

Also, why did the boring looking robot in Concord have pronouns...?
ZBMB9Un.jpeg
Lmao trash dispenser indeed.

A for astro bot.

Monster hunter is going to be amazing.

The rest was straight doo doo tier. Sony isn't asleep at the wheel at this point. They are in a coma.

Everything was Gaas, remakes remasters and pc ports, or moneyhated third party games, and people complain about MS lol.

Silent Hill graphics are fine. The issue is that it looks like Resident Evil now.

Lot's of variety:
  • platformer (astrobot)
  • FPS shooter thingy (concord - very high fidelity and gunplay looked very good)
  • Dynasty warriors
  • Monster Hunter
  • ARPG (PoE2 - so the best arpg with couch co-op and cross-save/progression - as an ARPG fan this was a real highlight)
  • Infinity Nikki looks wholesome and showed off some platformer gameplay - hard to put into a category for this
  • 2 new game reveals of some form of action-adventure games
  • 2 PSVR2 games
  • 2 PC ports
People complaining are in this weird mental space where unless there's 4+ AAA Sony first party studio games on show that the event was a let down. Here's a dose of reality - there are more games in different genres available right now than just 1st-party stuff - if you like jrpgs you already that 2024 has been great.

Also just take a second to think: why would you release all your games at once? It's more sensible to given each game it's own reveal and marketing campaign and to not trample over other big games from 3rd-party partners. It's almost like people in this thread are begging for how Microsoft reveals a whole bunch of CGI trailers and then actually releases *nothing* is considered a better showcase. Sony don't show off games until they are nearly ready - that's just something people need to get used to.

sensible and accurate post

It wasnt exactly an E3 rollercoaster ride, but nobody should have expected that anyway. For a state of play it was good.
I will be getting at least 3/4 games from what they showed. Hopefully Microsoft does a real blowout.

A solid C.

For me personally, the only games of interest were Dynasty Warriors Origins, Monster Hunter Wilds and Path of Exile 2. All three of which I'll be playing on PC.

No, people are complaining because at a State Of Play for PlayStation, there was only one game that will only be available on PlayStation. It's an incredibly weak outlook for the console.

Objectively, it's a pathetic showing.

So games that come to PC & PS5 from Sony 1st party are no longer considered games?

Live service games make sense to release on as many platforms as possible - so Concord makes sense to be cross-platform.

At the end of the day - you presumably buy a console to play games, not to "play" exclusive lists. Any good game is a good game regardless of source, and that makes for a good showing of entertainment content for this console.

Really liked Astrobot, it just oozed fun. Almost felt spoilery so much had they packed into it, while showing nothing in stretched detail. The rest was good or rather whatever, Concord seemed to have some personality, even though heavily borrowed from Guardians, but asymetric heroes were fun for me the last time in Team Fortress 2, don't care much for MP stuff. Much emphasis on story might hint that it might be for SP players too though? The other games had I think all gameplay, which is good, eg Concords original trailer was a bit pointless, too early, even though it did set the tone of yesterdays' presentation. But beside nice visuals not much of character or a clearly fresh new idea were in those games. So only the first and last game felt really interesting.
Overall better than I expected, but nowhere close to past e3 hypes.

...and yet, in a few years when Ps5 sales tank the same way Series X sales have, you'll sit there and wonder why it's happening - blaming everything but the very strategy that ensured it would happen.

Exclusive games sell consoles. Sony's rampant greed to capture as much of the market as possible will fuck them.

lol no. This was just an incredibly weak show regardless of the platform the singular entries launch on.

I don't have a Playstation, but it wasn't that bad. Sure, there aren't many heavy hitter exclusives aside from Astrobot, but there was something there for most people.

I've always had a soft spot for Dynasty Warriors, so it's nice to see another one in the pipeline. Path of Exile 2 is also looking great and one I'm sure I'll jump at with a friend.

VR games are never my thing and nor is GAAS, but if there's one or two games you look forward to then the event is nothing to turn your nose up at.

I'll agree that maybe they do have a slight issue with diversity at this stage. Maybe announcing something different like KIllzone 4 just to throw a curve ball in there would be good.

It was probably a steady C in terms of what it showed.

They have exclusive games - in a small State of Play, one of these exclusives was on show. You don't need to show off a whole pile of "not ready yet games" all at once.

I agree that exclusives sell consoles 100% - however saying that the show was objectively bad is wrong. It had a good variety of games from multiple genres and showcased their next big release (Concord). Now that may not be for you (and it isn't something I'm interested in), but there is an audience for that sort of game.

Almost 30 years of brand reputation throw into the gutter thanks to Hurst, Ryan and friends.

America HQed Sony Interactive Entertainment finally did it...they destroyed the last brand loyalty I had for Playstation.

I think we all know what's going to happen to Concord...

And if that's the best they can do, then oh boy.

Thank you for pointing this out (y) If Sony is following the same path Xbox is going, then it all makes sense. But I thought Sony's goal was to make their console as desirable as possible for people who are still on the fence about actually buying it? If that's the case, showing only one PS5 exclusive game is a bit concerning.

Also, God... I hate to see what gaming events have devolved into. I'd trade all these state of plays and such for one big gaming celebration week, aka E3, in a heartbeat. I don't need "more frequent updates" on games in development, just bring all your big guns all in one place once a year and I'd be so happy.

This was horrble. Only liked Astrobot and Monster Hunter, the rest was dated looking Western crap or generic games made in China.

Pretty nuanced take from Kyle there.

tl;dr he thinks Concord offers nothing that isn't already in the other hero shooters. There's literally nothing new or innovative and that's a problem.

The presentation structure was fine, the content wasn't. Only game I was potentially interested in was Astrobot. I give the SoP a D with some detention. You can do better Sony.

Disastrous PlayStation State of Play, stock market slips almost 400 points, and my boy gets slapped with 34 felony convictions. Yeah, yesterday was horrible.

Gaming is doomed if people thought that state of play was compete trash. I gave it a B. Would have loved less Concord and another big announcement but I was interested in most of the games shown.

Gaming is doomed if people thought it was good. It was pretty insipid.
