I voted for C, but it was really close to being a B. I thought it was really good, but doing that rewind at the end as if it was going to be a, "and one more thing" moment only to be dudes talking about Marvel took a little wind out of the sails.

same i was like Wolverine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?????????????????????????????????????????????
and nope

Marvel Tokon, Nioh 3, Silent Hill F and FF Tactics made this an A for me. Would have been an A+ if they showed a new first party game.

I can easily see how folks who are big fans of Japanese games would call this an A+ show. That doesn't say jack about "standards" or being a fanboy. It is just opinions and preferences.

B because Nioh 3 , Pragmata, Silent Hill and MGS

The lack of 1st party Games from Sony is concerning, that Gaas strategy left a huge Hole on Game production.

What are you interested ? Just curiosity

Some games I've enjoyed, beaten or spent 20+ hours in the last 5 years or so:

Any From game
BG3
Clair Obscur
CyberPunk 2077
V Rising
Satisfactory
Diablo 4
WoW
Hogwarts Legacy
Lies of P
The Riftbreaker
Alan Wake 2
Hellblade 2
Remnant 2
Indiana Jones
Ghostwire: Tokyo
Nier: Automata
RDR2
GoW (2018 over Rag, but enjoyed both)
Vampire Survivors
Silent Hill remake
Split Fiction
Atomic Heart
Trepang2

Sure there's some others, but those are top of mind. I do enjoy some indie and japanese games, but not many of them. It's more Lethal Company, REPO, phasmophobia, gang beasts, etc. that I'd play with my kids. SOP was mostly japanese/indie games, but not the kind I enjoy.

I've tried to like Nioh. Gameplay looks fun, it just never clicked with me when I'm actually playing, so I've got no hype for the 3rd.

Agreed, for those who love those kind of games they had a great show

Flip side I would hope those people can understand why some of us wanted something different from Sony

I mean we literally just had a 3rd party show that could have been done during Summer Games Fest

For giving this piece of garbage a A+, either low standards or just fanboys.
The irony of this post is palpable.

And of course from someone who hides their profile.

EDIT: Going back to laugh emoji at my recent posts changes nothing. Truth hurts.

Yep. If I'm looking for Sony first party then it was disappointing. If I'm looking for a kickass fighting game, game stick and games like Nioh, it was incredible.

Either way, there are no "standards". People throw out shit like "standards" to try and elevate their opinion above others. It's dumb.

It was definitely better than some of their previous efforts. I would have like to see more from some of their 1st party heavy hitters.

I think they are just too locked into DS2 and Ghost of Yotei and don't want to take any attention away from those titles. But this is E3 season. You've got to go big.

C+

Yeah I am not going to try and make someone feel bad if they loved every second of that show just also let other have their opinions and lets move on

Goes back to that Mighty Keef video talking about fanboys "They got some rude people that will come after you" so true

What do you want with my profile? Are you looking for something?

Whats up with you dude? You are acting very strange. Can talk bad about Playstation and you start to showing your claws.

Look at the thread and you gonna see I'm not alone. In fact, you quote just a little part of my post and wanna talk about irony? Get real.

You have to understand that the Age of Sony First party is gone for now, maybe they ll have a come back next gen, but till the end of PS5 life cycle dont expect PS3/PS4 levels of announcements from Sony.

Not only that, but also on a Xbox conference, as Xbox started to PR most of the games showed at State of Play. I mean, c'mon a B or a C I would understand, but there is no possible way this show was a A+.

Doesn't mean I have to like it not does it make me a PS hater that I want them to return to the style of games I loved

If u compare this with the last 5 ir 6 state of play this is def an A , the last time Sony had a good show was back when Demons Souls was announced.

Yeah I can't tell others how to feel about a show

I rated it as a C because a couple of games I will for sure be playing (on PC I might add)

I certainly can't see it as an A but many seem to have loved it

Usually when someone starts attacking you personally, it's because you're right and they've run out of an argument. A lot of people just can't deal with others thinking differently.

No matter what people accuse me of, I never really go after anyone. I just say what I think and leave it at that. That's enough to be on the SDF Most Wanted List. Enforcing conformity is the main goal, whether it's personal taste, GOTY, review scores, anything. Everyone must think the same thing or they lose it.

Yeah, I'm not going to dwell on it. Not my thing, but don't want to take away from anyone else who enjoyed it. I try to cut off those "rude" conversations before they start getting out of hand, but I don't always succeed and sometimes that's my fault.

A for Silent Hill, First Light and more Astro Bot

D for Pragmata. Terrible way to show the game.

F for the GoY blue ball-ing

Lots of other cool Japanese stuff, FF Tactics, classic remasters and fighting games that I'll never play, but appreciate. So B overall

My personal rating was an E. My consensus rating was a C…like there was a bunch of stuff I could see people would enjoy and be excited for, but very little that appealed to me personally.

So, EVERYTHING IS SHIT® - that's your reply.

And then you people wonder why people.consider this hobby of ours miserable - the constant whining and negativity is truly a sight to behold.

Pretty funny though, out of your shit list®, there's 5 games that I'll buy, that means that either A) I like shit or B) not everyone has to share the same opinion as you.

That's the problem, some of you think that your subjective opinion is an objective reality , now, if you can't see what's wrong with that, well...
I can practically guarantee that everything outside of Marvel Tokon will do either very mediocre or very poor numbers. If that's not closer to objective than "well I think xyz looks good" and "Japanese gaemz gud", I don't know what is.
Objectivity in video games isn't totally achievable, but we've really lost the plot of any common understanding of what quality looks like.

Some of us here knew, including myself, that when the pendulum would start to swing back to more and more good games and good release years, that there would be a crash collision between two types of people on GAF.

And I don't mean the positive posters, I mean the jaded-in-moment-only guys versus the jaded-all-the-time guys.

I'm noticing that spark of excitement coming back to some of you after this SoP, even if it was from just one ot two announcements, which is a good thing. Others here are way too knee deep in nostalgia or whatever other term you want to use, to ever return. I don't know what would actually bring them that spark aside from a magic genie lamp returning their childhood to them all over again.
This is toxic positivity at work, people. This is why we now have crap like the Wholesome Games broadcast as a replacement for E3 stage shows.

If you want to make statements about the mindsets on the forum, I can do that too and site examples. I was hit with this exact same high and mighty bullshit when I critiqued Final Fantasy XVI prior to release. Well now everything thinks it's extremely disappointing, and it underperformed in sales.

I don't notice a spark of excitement. It's more of this weird obsession of propping up Japanese games purely because they're Japanese. But when push comes to shove, no one's going to buy Romeo is A Dead man.

Yep. Console now got definitive physical, RT versions of Remakes and what I'm sure are going to be definitive OG versions, given how amazing RE96 port is.

This would have been a much better received thing in 2020 or 2021.

Good old Games already put all of these out for $9.99 a piece. Those versions are portable, mod-able for HD and REbirth stuff and won't be locked behind a sub service.

Yes, Capcom/Sony eventually allowed people to buy RE1 and not have it relegated to Premium tier, but it took them years.

Same thing happened to me with FFXVI, Spider Man 2 and GoW Ragnarok. Lots of people like those games and I never quoted them or replied to them or said a word to them. I just said what I thought and people flipped out. Just me speaking for myself. Then 6 months later everyone was surprised.

It's really always been this way. Back in the day I got just as much crap for liking FFXIII, DmC and Resident Evil 6. It really isn't an exaggeration that many, many people cannot tolerate anything but total conformity. They lose it.

"Honeymoon phase" for games actually isn't a real thing. What it is, is people that aren't actually in touch with their real opinion the 1st time. They are repeating the implanted opinion everyone has given them. 6 months to 10 years later their real opinion surfaces and they call it the honeymoon phase.

Miku, yeah, it's exactly like how you're describing things.
Again, different people like different things, but, when you've been championing games like Redfall, whether Starfield gets better after a 2nd playthrough or Hellblade 2 being actually good (while also being dismissive of the typical sony 3rd person template) but then being incredibly critical over what you saw last night...I don't know whether we can talk about "total conformity" by throwing the proverbial ball at others, have you ever thought that maybe, the problem is you and not others ? Just a thought man 😉

As for Protobyte's magical crystal ball telling us that the majority of games shown will be flops...well, congrats I guess on passing personal opinion as fact once again.
"Toxic positivity" my arse.

Well let's go down the list:

Pragmata - Generic and low energy as fuck. Space station Robot TLOU/Plague Tale/God Of War '18 redux. More meme than game; Capcom really wants you to know this isn't Deep Down all over again.

Romeo is A Dead Man - Has anyone ever been convinced of Suda51 quirk since No More Heroes 1 on the fucking Wii? Moreover, this looks like shit. Like they took a bunch of pre-made assets and made one of those Chinese vaporware trailers replete with the overdone shitty particle effects, doll-like character models and dipping frame rate.

Bloodstained 2 - Nobody, and I mean nobody is buying a PS5 for 2D platformers. Much less sequels to mediocre ones that come from the great Kickstarter Spiritual Successor nostalgia grift of the early 2010s. Not to mention it looks like total shit.

Final Fantasy Tactics - So many years of e-begging for Tactics to return, and they were so lazy they couldn't even put it through the HD-2D engine. Adding mediocre voice acting to a game releasing on the PS5 is not effort, it's the bare minimum. If that doesn't bother, how about the fact that it's another remaster. It feels like the PS5's significant library is going to wind up being games from past generations.

Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound - More 2D shit.

Nioh 3 - Really more like Nioh 5. Team Ninja is making the Japanese equivalent of pre-Origins AssCreed, and Koei Tecmo overall is Ubisoft. They've not enhanced anything to any noticeable degree. Graphics, gameplay, barely looks distinguishable from this string of TN titles, let alone the Nioh games.

Sea of Remnants and Tides of Tomorrow - 2 MP live service ripoffs of Sea of Thieves. One in third person and the other in first. Immediate skip, no justification needed.

Thief VR - Lmao, yes, I'm very sure there's a salivating audience waiting to play EidosThief in VR in 2025. Totally.

Silent Hill f - Cheap spinoff. Next.

007 First Light - Really disappointing reveal. Bad creative direction, bad writing, asset reuse galore. This is reskinned Hitman with more shooty bang bang, and that's not a good thing.

Marvel Tokon - Good looking game, but a little over-anime'd and fighting game hype is way louder on the internet than real life. I will not pretend this doesn't have potential to do big numbers though.

So that's one, that I may not even wind up playing.
You must be fun at parties

"Toxic positivity" my arse.
Well if you go back to look at my thoughts on Redfall, I was one of the only ones not lying about it and massively exaggerating how bad it was. I said it was around a 6/10, but had really solid level design, gunplay, OST, and one of my favorite and only known depictions of a New England town in a game. It's a fun game. I didn't rate it perfectly or tell anyone to play it. I just said what I thought. I haven't played it post patches, but I would say if they fixed the framerate on the boss fight and the enemy AI glitches it's at worst a 7/10. I had fun playing it.

Hellblade 2, I'm aware of its shortcomings, but I was blown away by it. I compared it to seeing Avatar 2 in the theater and it was the first game in my lifetime to truly fool me multiple times and look like film and real life. I loved the art design, sound design, cinematic fights and use of color. Acting is top tier as well. I had a lot of fun and I think it's a masterpiece. I play lots of indie games with much less gameplay than that. I didn't tell anyone to play it. I posted my impression in the OT for the game, not even the review thread. Other people had to copy my post and plaster it everywhere. When I talked about playing it twice, it's because the beginning level is the worst part of the game and starts slow. When I played it a second time, that part was more bearable because I didn't know there was a run button and I could fight better since your first fight in the game is basically a boss fight. So second playthrough I enjoyed that section more. Everything else I already liked. I didn't tell anyone to play this twice, just talking in the game's OT about what I thought and still think.

Starfield, I loved it. I posted dozens of detailed thoughts on it in the OT and the photo thread and you can read it if you want. I didn't lecture anyone else about it with the 1 exception of saying Jim Sterling's review was just make believe trash rating it a 3/10 or something absurd. He can do it, but I had to break my rule and call that out just the 1 time. I don't tell anyone else to play Starfield, just talking about what I think.

What problem do you think I have? I know what I like and I post my thoughts on it. I couldn't care less if I'm the only person on the forum that thinks that, and no amount of bullying changes my mind. It usually just gets me banned. I still know exactly what I think about all those games, because I played them and think for myself.

You're literally still doing the same shit and demanding that people like Sony or else you flip out. Let me explain my Sony record to you once again since you literally can't handle anyone not liking something.

God of War 2018 was my GOTY that year. I bought Ragnarok and hated it.
Spider Man 1 I got the platinum and really enjoyed it. Bought Miles Morales and couldn't finish it. Skipped SM2.
Horizon I got on sale. It was okay but didn't get past 10 or 15 hours. Didn't buy part 2.
Uncharted 4 is pretty much the only ND game I loved. I didn't like TLOU1, didn't play 2. But Uncharted 4 is fun, and I played the multiplayer even.
Ghost of Tsushima, I enjoyed it but didn't finish it. Bailed on Act 3, got a bit repetitive. I will play 2 eventually, but no rush.
Gravity Rush 1 and 2 are my favorite Sony games, both are 3rd person.
Astro Bot I got, and rated it pretty highly. I really enjoyed it.
Enjoyed The Last Guardian too, looking forward to their next game.
I won't cover anything before PS4, but I had all of it, including both handhelds.

Do I pass your Sony struggle session now? I'm allowed to like and not like anything I want. Period. All you do is make yourself look insecure. You aren't changing anyone's mind on games, and I don't know why you even care to.

So compared to complete rubbish it's an A? Is that how they keep getting away with these shows?
dude, it was a good show, Pragmata, Romeo, Silent Hill, Nioh3, 007, Metal Gear, Marvel Super Heroes what are you talking about ??? for me it was a A tier presentation, most games i wanna try out.

for the last 4 years Sony has been putting garbage show after garbage show, this one was not a garbage one, almost no indie, almost no VR, just games and good ones, Sony dosnt do first party amazing presentations anymore, you have to put your expectations on check or you ll live on frustration as i once did.

This is toxic positivity at work, people.
I'd like to thank you. I was literally waiting for this specific buzzword to hit me, and I'm very glad that it was you who said this specifically.

Now to start, I'll be counting the number of positive posts here between myself and your negative ones on this very topic:

March Climber's positive posts: 4 posts. In 2 other posts I am discussing Capcom with adamsapple adamsapple which don't count.

Interactions: In each of my posts, I don't argue with people's personal opinions nor do I try to force them to change their opinion to align with my own. Instead I ask what value the opposing opinions are offering in exchange of them not liking shows like this (for example, if they would suggest other games to people to look forward to instead).

Now,

Protobyte's number of negative posts so far: 6 posts.

Interactions: There are instances of you arguing with others here, explaining in detail why you think it's all terrible, and attempting to convince people that they are being 'fooled by Japanese games'.

your-honor-goliath.gif

Can you now please state how my posts in this thread not only outweigh the impact of your own, but also to the point where they are presented as 'toxic positivity'?

Yet in the same post you are attempting to absolve or 'soften' your posts of being seen as overtly negative?

Did you mix my posts up with Giallo Corsa Giallo Corsa accidentally? You have clearly stated your opinion about this show multiple times throughout the thread. I stated my opinion about this show, just once.

Please, proceed.

Now now, people who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones, besides, the flip out thing is incredibly ironic coming from you brother.

But i digress, we were talking about being incredibly selective on what one likes - and i'll have to repeat myself here -

everyone is entitled to their opinion. People are free to dislike things. That's not the issue. The problem is when someone is constantly negative or incredibly selective and having double standards like you do in this very specific case, again, this kind of behavior isn't just negative but actually performative.
Besides, everything that you describe (Redfall, Hellblade 2 etc) are - obviously - your personal thoughts, i could say the same things about X,Y, Z titles that i liked but that wouldn't take us anywhere.

Again, you're entitled to your own opinion obviously, just don't..."flip out" as you eloquently put it, or, cry wolf when others think that there's a visible double standard at play, so, again, maybe, the problem is you and not others.

Do I pass your Xbox struggle session now? I'm allowed to like and not like anything I want. Period.
