So for me Astro elevated the show tremendously. Without it, absolutely an F
 
I think the problem is I wouldnt care as much for disappointing shows if we would have more than 2 or 3 the whole year.
 
Am I the only one who doesn't like Astro Bot? Love everything else though. Especially Path Of Exile 2, Monster Hunter Wilds, Dynasty Warriors, Concord and the Chinese action game.

You know I have said this many times over the years but it bears repeating that Mike and Phil shared that drink in Phils office when Ryan took over at Playstation

Are we seeing the fruits of Jimmies labors now?

if we had more than 3 you would be even more dissapointed.

Reception would be a lot better if they just paired whatever September stuff they have planned with this SoP.
 
More of an eye opener why we need real competition. Felt like with Xbox dying, Sony just didn't care much and threw this together last minute.
 
AstroBot saved the show.

A new Dynasty Warriors and Monster Hunter Wilds were dope too.
Those Chinese games of whose names ive already forgotten looked dope but i think back to back or rather in short succession kinda fused them together.........Ill wait for more details on them all.







But Concord.......damn that was way too long.

Not sure if it is Jimmie or just Sony has changed, but the Gaas shit doesn't look good to me either.

Although, have to say, Phil should have been getting his own house in order rather drinking to the presumed downfall of PlayStation. Jimmie had the last laugh there.

Notable moments(for me):

Concord Gameplay(looks good, needs PvE)
Dynasty Warriors new reveal
Infinity Nikki new reveal
Ballad of Antara new reveal
Where winds meet gameplay (looked like Sekiro with Bloodborne dodging system)
Path of Exile 2 new gameplay(+Couch co-op and cross-play/progression all looked really good)
Silent Hill 2 new gameplay (The stream is 1000% worth watching over the trailer)
Monster Hunter Wilds gameplay (looked really good)
Astro Bot (looked really good)

If I added the bonus Silent Hill 2 gameplay livestream after the SoP, it makes this a B+.

Astro Bot - looks amazing, reminds me that there is some soul within Sony even as Hermann Hulst tries to turn everything into Horizon-shaped glop
Concord - this is one of the games Sony approved, I'm thinking yikes
Silent Hill 2 - looks like shit, they're gonna ruin MGS3 too.
Monster Hunter - it looks great but why put a 2025 trailer in there
Until Dawn - unnecessary
Path of Exile 2 - looks good and would much rather support this company than Blizzshit
Where Winds Meet - I dunno looks exactly like that Wukong game
Dynasty Warriors - it looks like DW, but after DW9, tough to say, and it's 2025.
Ballad of Antara - looks really interesting, but again, 2025
Infinity Nikki - it actually kind of looks good, but I just know as soon as I start playing it my dad will come through the door and say "are ya winning, son", even though I am a grown man, I live an hour away from him, and he doesn't have a key to my house

I'd give it a B just because it has one must-play game but the rest is either meh or 2025.

We would have have seen this GaaS push with or without Jimmy honestly. Like come on even Nintendo was further ahead with stuff like Splatoon lol

At least we know that they're mainly focusing on the bought studios for the GaaS stuff now. More optamistic about Fairegames since it sounds more like a PayDay/Seige type of game

Astro bot looked cool, concord looked good, ballad of antara looked great, where winds meet looked interesting.

i think it was a pretty solid show, tbh. i've been pretty negative on sony recently.

The moment he took over the company (in 2019) I knew it would end like this. What worked is that they increased short term profits (for his bonuses) at the cost of an inevitable decrease of long term profit from 1st parties and devaluating of their precious IPs on PC ports. Doing politically correct industry vetted bland Activision / Ubisoft / GAAS stuff and stopping doing AA risky creative stuff. Focusing on services like MS did. Did it work for MS? They were in such a great state in 2019! So sad to see this unfold from 2019. :messenger_crying:

C. Lots of content, so that was a plus. 95% of it didn't appeal to me, but that's not their fault. I have unusual tastes, and they're going after audiences a lot different than me. I liked what I saw of Astrobot, and a couple other titles seemed like they had potential, although it was hard to tell from just the trailers.
 
The days of megaton after megaton announcements are gone. Been gone for years now. Especially if the goal is to release 1 big tentpole game per year. Back during the E3 days, titles would be announced 3 years out with only a short CG trailer. Which means you could have an event showing what most of your studios are working on even if they had no idea when it would come out.

With the new focus on showing games coming out in. the next 12-18 months, this is the kinds of events/showcases/SoP you're going to get.

This wasn't terrible. Everyone complaining about GaaS. By my count, there were 2 shown, 3 if you count PoE. That's 3 out of 13 games.

We already know there's no major 1st party games coming out this year, and 3rd party publishers are waiting for their own events over the summer to show their stuff.
 
I would give it a C because nothing was exciting for me but i don't understand why people think it's garbage.

Either you're rating the first party output of the year, or you rate it as the annual Playstation showcase but we knew it was a SoP so i don't really understand the train of thought.

It was better than most Nintendo Direct i watched.

I too. And I mean it, not joking. Not only I have a Series X which biggest interest is backwards compatibility at 4K. I also have a dominant Sony that let its PS5 hooked to the third party output. Thank god that not all third parties are 2K and Ubisoft and there are still companies doing big good games. But still sad.
