okay, just curious as to what peoples favorites are of these christopher guest directed mockumentaries (spinal tap wasnt, but it was basically the start of his mockumentary trilogy, so, its basically in the same lineup.)

I'd have to go with this order: this its hard to really put them in any order.

Spinal Tap > Waiting for Guffman > A Mighty Wind > Best in Show

however, it seems whenever i talk to someone whos seem them, they always have a different favorite, alot of people love best in show that i know, and when i borrowed them spinal tap or guffman, didnt really like them or get into them.

Spinal Tap >>>>> Guffman > Best in Show

haven't seen Mighty Wind

Spinal Tap is one of the best comedies ever. So many classic lines/scenes. I nearly pissed my pants when the drummer exploded near the end.

Spinal Tap> Mighty Wind> Best in Show, haven't seen Guffman.

I know the lyrics to all of the songs from A Mighty Wind...inside me, there seems to be a folk lover.

waiting for guffman is classic, i think its almost as funny as spinal tap personally.. i've watched each of the 4 films probably 25-30 times a piece at least, with spinal tap and guffman probably closer to 100 seriously.. they are all amazing.

i still cant see how people could rate guffman so low.. its so amazing.

as for spinal tap, the current DVD out is really amazing.. the criterion is a great compliment to it and its worth it to have both if you are a big fan.

but the criterion goes for like $75-150 on Ebay, the one in stores is $10-20.. so i think we all know which to buy..

i have the critieron, and my regular one was stolen, (err.. i borrowed it, and then neglected to ever get it back)... so now i need to rebuy that second one.

Only reason Best beats Guffman is because of the beach ball scene.

"This is my extensive beach ball collection."

WTF is up with the Guffman hate? I love Spinal Tap and own both the old Criterion disk along with the updated one but I gotta say that Guffman is the better film. Spinal Tap was much funnier back in the 80's when the heavy metal scene was alive and kicking but 20 years later it's kinda lost its luster. Don't get me wrong though, Tap is still fucking brilliant but Guffman's characters are timeless. If you've ever had any experience with a small town community theater these are exactly the type of people you run into. I was in tears laughing so hard the first time I saw it and that never happens.....well, I guess I nearly had a coronary when I went to see The Big Lebowski as well, but whatever.

1) Waiting For Guffman
2) This Is Spinal Tap

A Mighty Wind and Best In Show....who cares. I just can't get into either of 'em.

Exactly how I would list them.... and that deleted scene is so golden it's amazing. Also Wha' Happened?! is hilarious from A Mighty Wind.

You are all bastard people.

Guffman>Tap>Show>Wind. What makes Guffman so great to me is that after spending four years of college in Ohio, Guffman was a riot and then I realized how accurate it is.

Wind is getting nowhere near the love it deserves. The songs are some of the subtlest humor ever.

"My mama was the cold North wind
My daddy was the sonnnnnnnnnnnnn
of a railroad man from west of Hell
Where the trains don't even run."

Exactly!

"I came to realize I had been abused... musically."

A Mighty Wind was funny and somewhat dramatic at the same time. I really cared about what happened to Mitch and Mickey. And having listening to various 60's protest-peace-love folksongs and comparing the lyrics to some of the stuff in the movie, it's amazing how laughable alot of that music was back then. But as for the four movies, I like them all. Christopher Guest&Co. know what they're doing and I hope they make another movie soon. I haven't heard about any new developments though.

I'd have to go

Spinal Tap
A Mighty Wind
Best in Show
Waiting for Guffman

They're all really good though, but Spinal Tap is the only one to keep a stream of laughs through the whole thing.
