Rayman Legends |OT| "It's a bit like a porno" (Michel Ancel) WiiU/360/PS3/Vita/PC

Shit, I was planning to buy a PC version, but a day ago I bought WiiU, as I had a very nice offer to buy it for a small price.

So, now I have a choice. On one hand, I can play it dirty cheap on PC, or pay more and play it on WiiU. While I was playing the demo on steam, I remember saying, that those shoehorned quasi-touch elements would work better on WiiU, but then I wasn't even thinking of getting one.

So, WiiU Rayman owners, is it worth it to pay more and play Legends on WiiU?

I recommend getting it on the Wii U. I actually did not want to play Murphy levels with the Gamerpad, but after trying it out, I can't see myself playing it on a normal controller. The Murphy stages are surprisingly a blast.

Do the Daily challenges return after some time? I REALLY love the current daily challenge, which is the infinite tower. Would be a shame if it goes away forever.

Finally beat this today! Had a blast with the 8-bit versions, really added some good challenge.

Man, Mariachi Madness is just...perfection.

Thanks, Michel.

i will never get a freaking diamond rank for the trophie.
STOP doing online trophies, developer. Seriously.
I made sure to get it out of the way on my first day playing but man was it tough.

Currently sitting 9th place for the daily challenge on the vita so hopefully I'll get another diamond but the awesome trophy is going to take months

I sometimes wonder how some of these people even manage to get a Diamond.
I was doing the Daily Challenge yesterday and managed to get I think 8.52 seconds, just a mere 0.30 seconds from getting a Dimaond! HOW THE FUCK DO THESE CRAZIES DO IT?!!?!?
In the end I call it quits and settle for my Golds, Silvers or Bronzes, depending on my mood.

The timing of the jumps etc. have to be perfect. I was also around 8.50 seconds or something in yesterday challenge, but i didnt manage to shave of those extra tens of a second :(

I wish that the medals were set to fixed times/length instead. I still havnt managed to get a single diamond medal in the daily challenges because the top players are simply too good compared to me. I usually get gold or silver. I also wish that the points you got for each medal were higher. At this rate, it will take me months to get the last trophy (i also need the trophy to collect 1 million Lums, but i'm currently at 970k or so, so i'll get that trohpy tomorrow or on Monday).

EDIT: I'm glad that they didnt include the "Get a Diamond medal in the daily challenges" trophy in the PS3 version. If they did, i would probably never have a chance to get the platinum trophy. Or maybe it was easier to get a diamond medal in the begining when more people were playing? I didnt really try hard enough on the daily challenges before after i beat the game 100%.

I got diamond twice. Once on the weekly challenge, another time on an extreme daily. Both were "get to xxx meters" and I just had the patience to try about a million times to get a perfect run.

The worst part is seeing your leaderboard placement slide down the more people play. I was on #7 on that daily.. couple of hours later I was on 13. So I had to pick it up again and improve my time. It was hard as shit, but I'm really proud of that trophy :)

Keep trying and if it's impossible, just wait for the new dailies and try again.

The "get as far as you can" challenges are my favorite :) The worse ones for me is probably Murphy's Dungoen when you have to collect X amount of Lums in the fastest time possible. I think i never got a gold on that challenge.

Far as you can has the highest chance of getting a Diamond...but I give up once the areas start looking tough and require strict timing on your actions ToT.
'Get there quickly' is another of my banes ESPECIALLY if they're in the Livid Dead stages.

The closest I've been to a Diamond was with one of those "run/climb as high as you can" tree runs. I got somewhere over 2000m and was about 100m away from Diamond when I stopped playing. Of course, that was just WHEN I was playing. I checked it later and saw that plenty more people had gotten to, like, 2600+ meters, which was again further away from what I could do. I'm just hoping that if I keep trying, in a few months people better than me won't be playing this anymore and one day I might actually reach a Diamond Trophy before Ubisoft pulls the plug with the servers or it is added to PS+ (again bringing more talented gamers than me to play challenges).

I'll repeat my frustrations from the Vita thread. Aweso Me!, Millionare and Champion are horrible trophies and the fact that you have to be in the top 1% to get a Diamond trophy is such BS design that I'm hoping Ubisoft would patch that shit to be different. Even making it Top 5% would make it a lot more achievable (yet still not too much of a cakewalk). That you only have about 1/2 of the million Lums collected and less than 2/3 of the trophy points collected even after you've 100%'d the game and done a couple of weeks worth of challenges is just mindboggling. How did Ancel & Co figure people would like this kind of grinding in a platformer? And why, exactly, did they replace the trophy of beating your friends' times in challenges a few times (something actually achievable for more than 1% of the audience) with the Get a Diamond Trophy one? Also, the Awesomeness level doesn't even unlock anything, so why is it there?

I usually get Diamonds from fall as far as you can.

I have no idea how some people do the speed thingys. By using the basic attack+jump to keep momentum I don't get even close to diamond.

Still need 700 points for platinum trophy.

I'm actually kind of close to Diamond at the moment in the Daily Extreme Challenge, I'm at 1300+ meters and atm the Top 10 mostly has people in the 1600s. But I'm sure all my hopes & dreams will be crushed in due time, there's still 12 hours left, after all. I'll perhaps take a break for now and return when there's a couple of hours left to see if it's still within my reach. I suck at the drop as fast/far as you can challenges. And the Dojo ones, I usually get a Silver from those and call it a day.

Also, lol, if PSNprofiles is anything to go by (supported by leaderboards), only 4 people in the world currently have Platinum from Legends (or well, had last night when I checked). :p

Pretty sure more people managed to get the Plat. Keep in mind that if PSNProfiles shows like 5000-7,000 players of Rayman Legends, it's only showing the ones who use PSNProfiles.
As is, the game has 70,000 PS3 purchases at least based on leaderboards (might be off a bunch of thousands due to gamesharing =P)

I think the number you see on leaderboards is actually across all platforms.

I'm starting to get burnt out super hard on the distance challenges. It's really annoying to get close to a Diamond rank, die, then having to spend 3-4 minutes getting back to where you were for another look. That in and of itself isn't too bad, except that at that point, the previous parts of the challenge are pretty much automatic, so it just ends up being really boring.

I think the number you see on leaderboards is actually across all platforms.
I'm almost certain that is not the case, as (if nothing else) Microsoft would never allow that on XBL -- that and the leaderboard shows about 80,000 total players on XBL.

I meant the Vita version. On the leaderboards, it shows only 4 people have gotten over 6000 required for the Aweso Me! trophy. And since getting that particular trophy requires you to repeat online challenges, we can be sure they are all that have gotten it.

I just finished this up... My first Rayman game. It was delightful for the most part. I didn't like the feel of the controls as much as games like 2D Mario, DKCR, and Super Meat Boy. I also don't think it was as consistently creative and fun as those games, though there were many parts that I found brilliant. Having not played Origins before, I didn't feel at all shafted on content, though I can see why those who had played it felt a bit cheated. The music and art were great, as was the level design for the most part. I'm debating on whether or not to play through Origins, as I've already played half the levels in this game.

There's a really minor little thing that's annoying me with some of the challenges. I've noticed that on some of the Murfy daily challenges, a couple of enemies don't always spawn. It happens on today's extreme challenge (on the X360 anyway; I don't know if the challenges are different on different platforms) where there's one enemy after sliding down a chain rope that only seems to spawn 20% of the time. is there any rhyme or reason to these enemies spawning (or despawning)?

Oh man tell me about it! I remember when an enemy suddenly appeared on a ledge it didn't appear on before, that would explain how some managed to get faster times.

Man I was doing the Murfy extreme challenge and got a time that was 0.20 away from a gold! I was right about willing to go insane until I finally managed to get the gold haha.

Yeah, Dojos suck. Mostly because I suck at them. :p I like the tree runs the most, then the regular runs and the falling down ones can be fun but also extremely frustrating.

Dojo is the fucking worst. The absolute best one is the infinite tower. I love that shit. A close second is the infinite dungeon one. Infinite drop is good as well.

Fuck it, all the infinite ones are awesome. The rest are mehh.

I dislike the Dojo stages too, but every once in a while once you figure the patterns and how they are set up you can get a Gold or Silver by the 3rd try at least.

Today i figured out that when you drop, if you press down while doing so, Rayman will start falling a bit faster. Maybe this is known, but i didnt know about it before today, accidentally figuring it out. I couldnt get under 8 second on today's extreme challenge, but after using the technique with pressing down when falling, i managed to get under 8 seconds several of times. I didnt get a diamond trophy though, but i am very close to it.

I manage to get gold reasonably quick but the grind to Diamond is what kills.

At this rate it'll be 3 months to get the platinum. Who thought this was a good idea.

Hopefully will be getting the platinum in this game this week. Which equates to about 35 Diamond Cups and somewhere around 280 gold trophies on my profile stats. On PS3 that is only rank 49. Therefore on PS3 around 48 people have gotten the platinum trophy.

Favorite challenges were anything that wasn't the dojo or never ending pit. I enjoyed the speed and as far as you can go challenges way more than the gather lums challenge.

Dojo is always a bummer but got a few diamonds on get x lums in 60 seconds and on gathering 200 lums quickly. Never got a diamond on a pit challenge cause I just didn't enjoy learning the layouts or routes. The other part about diamond that is a bit rough is the countless times where my ghost earlier in the day helped people perfect the route and lost me a spot, therefore pushing my time to gold.

Who knew, complaining at forums works. After throwing a fit a couple of days ago, I managed to get a Diamond Trophy in the infinite tower level. Was fourth by the end with a little over 1800 meters. It's kind of funny, I just kind of KNEW I could do it that day. I know I could've easily gotten higher (I screwed up in a part that repeated a pattern from earlier, so if I could do something once I could do it twice), but I just didn't give a fuck at that point anymore, since the Top 10 seemed to not change much (and the first person on the list was, like, over 4500 meters >_>; ). I guess there might've not been too much competition because it was a saturday evening and other people have lives. :D

The Daily Challenges in this are such bullshit. There's literally, what, five different levels? And they feel exactly the same every single time you play them.

For what Ubisoft are expecting of the player to get those last two achievements/trophies they should really have made more effort to make this mode good. It's not even close to fun past the first week when you've seen absolutely everything it has.

the one benefit from that is it helps you in learning the patterns, which would make future playthroughs of challenges more easier for the player to get a high score in earlier.
For example, in the Livid Dead challenges, if there's a stretch of land, then a gap with a chain, you can run, tap Jump, quickly press attack and you'll have crossed the gap.
Doing so saves you a few seconds since using the chain is slower.
If you've learned that in a previous challenge, you'll notice it in future ones.

I shouted FUCK YEAH when I got the Gold on the Invaded level for How to Shoot your Dragon (35 seconds). Don't know why people lament the treasure chase levels when these invaded levels are really intense, and then there are the fire wall chases that have been enjoyable so far.

I don't remember there being this much gliding in Origins, really need to feather it. I'm still not great at grabbing the Purple Lums, have to really slow down to get them.

Congrats on getting the diamond trophy :) Funny thing is that it kinda happened to me too. I said earlier in the thread that i never had gotten a diamon trophy, but a few days later i managed to get one in one of the previous weekly challenges :) I dont play the Vita version though, so there is no trophy connected to getting that on the PS3, but still nice to get a diamond trophy in the game. It saves me a couple of days of grinding for the Level 11 Awesome trophy.

Their next game if there is any, should revolve around the music levels.

I'd be up for that.

Well beat the main game but I still have the last world to unlock...need about 100 more teensies. Between all of the Origins levels I still haven't beaten, or even unlocked. Those and going back through some of the earlier levels should net me what I need.

I have to say, this game is worlds easier than Origins. I kind of expected a tougher challenge...they seem to do a decent job of hiding some of the Teensies...if I were more patient, I wouldn't leave a level until I found every single one. Probably the smart approach to take.

Music is absolutely fantastic, I have to get the soundtrack somehow.

I'd like to make a proposal that the OT threads for all Multiplat titles get a poll added to them where the people that buy the game can vote which version they bought. I am always curious. Does the game seem worth buying if you don't get the WiiU version? I can't decide which version to buy.

PS3 version is fine for me. The things I'm dissapointed in ain't nothing to do with version differences sadly :(

I cant compare it to any other versions, but i really like the PS3 version, so i'm definitelly glad that i got it eventhough that i dont have a WiiU.

What are the differences in the WiiU version by the way? I know that using the touch screen on the controller to do the Murphy levels, and also co-op some (or maybe all) of the music levels. Are there anything else that is different?

FINALLY GOT MY FIRST DIAMOND TROPHY!

For anyone who has me on their PSN friendlist, you can see how I got the Diamond by copying the Ghost in the Daily challenge.

You can bet I made a fist when I got it but...there's like 12 hours til the challenges end who knows if I get knocked down to Gold XD.

Interesting new challenge today.

Its dojo (ughhh) but it is infinite lums. No timer. Just keep going until you die. Its kinda cool because you can take your time on some levels and sacrifice the lums on those, but go quickly on others to make it up.

Nearly done with this game on PS3 and I have to say it was disappointing.

The "touch" helper levels (whatever he's called) were a pain to play and added very little to the game. Rayman is a fast paced, momentum based plataformer and having to stop to move that little frog around really messed with the flow. It simply has no place in the game. I literally rolled my eyes every time I saw that little green piece of crap waving in a recently unlocked painting.

It's hard to think of toady as anything but a gimmick. There's a good reason the game is at its absolute best in the Invasion and Music levels, and that's because you can enjoy the brilliant free flowing level design and control without having to stop and move Toady around so he can remove a completely contrived obstacle.

A much worse problem though is that the progression on the game took a giant step back from Origins. There was not a single new move or power-up. You felt like you learned nothing from one set of levels to the next. I could have probably beaten the last level without going through any of the other levels upon starting the game for the first time.

I'll give Ancel a pass on this but I expect much more actual innovation in level design and controls (as opposed to shoehorned gimmicks) if I'm going to buy the next 2-D Rayman.

Sadly I cannot be in the mood to slog through it to get the required # of lums for the Diamond...but come on over 800?!?!

Not to sound confrontational but pray tell what new moves and abilities would you have added that would enhance gameplay and also not obfusticate the already balanced, free flowing abilities present in the game

The way I see it there's no way to add new abilities without a) doing that old video game trope of convieniently forgetting all your moves and having to relearn them, i.e., redoing everything you just did in Origins, or b) introduce new mechanics in the form of gimmicks, which in this games case came in the form of Murfy, the chicken levels and the Wizard glove shooting power up.

I'm not saying it isn't possible to add new moves to the repetoire, just that Rayman's movepool for Legends (and Origins) seems completely adequate for all situations the game can present you with, adding more would be gimmicky in itself.

Well, I've played the challenges for 2 weeks or so, but I haven't seen it in that time.

Yeah, I got about 500 and decided it was enough. It made dojo a semi pleasant experience.
