Only played the first level so far (360) but the game is even more beautiful than the first. Get the feeling whilst playing that the experience this time around will be far more refined.

Coming back on the question raised earlier : no, no options to play the on-screen character in Murfy's level on Wii U in solo. But as said before, I reall think those levels are better as Murfy.

thats really surprising, does the game support the classic controller pro?

Un-related : some (me first) are regretting the absence of the chests levels from Origins. But I can confirm that there are a few "run for your life" or "chase" levels that could be assimilated to that.

Same for moskitos levels. There are some "flying" levels for which Rayman can shoot. It differs a bit from the Moskito in controls.

There are some other fantastic new kind of levels though, like the "600 feet under" type (mostly free fall, reminds me of some levels in the original Rayman) as well as some clever Murfy levels (those with the duck...people will understand when playing).

Variety is great.

Already i've got a good feeling about this one.
A lot of the tinkering with the gameplay i've known since I first played the demo late last year at a Wii U kiosk but I think they're worth repeating in case anyone's curious.

- The gameplay flows better that Origins with Rayman and co feeling a little snappier and without the aerial attacks halting character momentum so much. While Legends is of course following the same playstyle as Origins the small changes go a long way towards making character control more fluid and enjoyable. Even the attack moves have been a bit streamlined, while this does mean no more leg sweeps (oh man i'm going to miss Globox's low kick animation) it's all for the best really. On top of this enemies no longer bubble up when struck, they just die and give you all the lums there and then which is an improvement over the occasionally fiddly process of trying to rustle up a few extra lums from enemies in origins.

- Speaking of lum collecting, Origins often came across as inconsistent in its ranking system in relation to the lums in each stage, every stage adhered to the 300 lums needed for all the collectables (with an unnecessary accolade awarded for 350 should you reach that many) and in some stages even grabbing just 300 lums could feel like a chore where you needed to take every possible opportunity possible like making sure to squeeze every lum out of bonus room enemies, point is for me it straddled the line between being a good way to test a players nose for secrets and collecting capabilities and the unwanted shopping list necessary to unlock other stages.
Legends brings the number for the top rank even higher, typically 600 lums. While this sounds a lot worse in execution it's really not, there's far more lum opportunities available to the player in each stage so missing a few purple lum streaks wont necessarily end your chances for a top rank. Of course it's still very early days for me so perhaps later stages might be more stingy with lum distribution but the point is that in Legends the act of nabbing lums is just a lot more enjoyable for me.

- On the other hand the number of Teensies hidden in each stage has been upped quite noticeably, the two hidden bonus rooms per stage concept still remains but there's also around 8 other Teensies dotted around each stage hidden in a similar fashion to the lum giving gold coins. So far this hasn't proved much of a problem and they tie in with the lum collecting aspect quite well, in the sense that if you're going for the gold you're going to be finding these guys as you go anyway.

- Addressing the Murphy stages, I picked up the Wii U version since it was one of the main reasons I picked up the console as early as I did in the first place (well, we all saw how that turned out) so I figured i'd stick by it. Since the alternative take on Murfy stages for other platforms was revealed I was wondering if it was worth switching to say the PS3 version but as it stands so far i've found the touch controlled Murfy stages to play well enough, I can't compare them to the other versions but so far i'm actually quite impressed by how each world has presented me with a unique take on the touch focused gameplay.
Since worlds open up quite quickly if you're collecting lots of Teensies in the few stages i've played so far at least four of them have actually been Murfy focused and some worlds seem to handle them with a different central gimmick. For example *light stage spoilers*
the Day of the Dead themed world focuses more on carving a safe path through chunks of cake and the Greek themed world was focused on using a shield to both defend Globox from obstacles as well as ferry him across large gaps.
It's kind of annoying that you can't stop Globox from moving of your own accord for when you just notice a secret tucked away but Globox has already moved on, fortunately there's a restart from checkpoint option available in the menu so if you do bugger something up you can quickly rectify this with little time lost, just make sure to do it before he reaches the next checkpoint.
Anyway the point here is the stages are fine, admittedly it's still not what i'm actually here for but I still think they top the mostly tedious mosquito stages from Origins as far as variety stages go.

- Return to Origins does indeed change the lum and collectable style to that of Legends which is to say Purple Lum lines and the same number of Teensies to collect as in the main game of legends. So potentially no more BUM BUM BAAAH moments with the big lums that made standard ones worth double, not sure if this is a good or bad thing right now but in either case it's different so it makes heading back over old ground more interesting than being a straight retread.

Presentation is fantastic in this game, the gallery area that works as the games hub is a nice way of presenting all the options and when you unlock something new which is very often the gamepad gives the option of jumping straight to the new unlock as well as offering other information to the player. I don't want to jump the gun quite yet but i've got a strong feeling that when this is all said and done this game might quite handily trump Origins but we shall see, it's a promising sign when you can describe a stage as Underwater stealth and say it was pretty awesome (great music as well).
From the amount of character costumes to the open nature of the game progression i'm feeling pulled in multiple directions right now, I'm spoilt for choice in a good way.

Having so much fun with the Wii U version. The levels are more varied than Origins, and somehow the art design is even more beautiful.

It is painful not being able to play this in North America till the 3rd. I played the Challenges App religiously and was ranked fairly high prior to taking a month off before release to keep things fresh.

Can't... Wait...

I'd say old bean jolly good time

I'm so sick of you fancy-pants Europeans getting games before us, first Dream Team, then W101, now Rayman. I secretly hope DKCTF comes out at least a week after the US release, I hope you feel the pain in my heart while I write big impressions about the fun I'm having.

Can you speak louder ? I really can't hear you over the sound of all the blu ray releases dropping at my door.

Awwww.... Cowboy Bebop blu was hiding behind my copy of Rayman Legends. So cute !

criterion mate, I'll never pity you

Just a quick piece of advice for anyone thinking about the wiiu or vita versions.

Murfy levels are almost half the levels so far,
in the first world it's been 4 murfy and 5 without.
I have to say that they have annoyed me so far, it's a nice idea but the ai doing the platforming just hurtles along so quickly that it's easy to miss secrets even when you find them.
not a fan at all, and what makes it worse is that pressing the b button
makes a buzzing (no you don't) sound as if they have simply turned off the ability to have murfy on a button press for wii u.
not pleased at all.
I'm really wishing i had gone with the ps3 version now.

to the people who told me that murfy levels were only every six levels or so, screw you for lying.

Aw man, that's disappointing that it's almost half the levels. I like the Murfy stuff, but not THAT much. :(

Well damn. Fears seeming really close to being confirmed. :(

Gonna wait until people have finished the game completely before making a final decision, but it's not looking good so far.

I have to be honest here, i absolutely adored origins.
but so far this game has done nothing but frustrate me,
it's been such a stop start kind of feeling, the rayman levels are gorgeous and great fun,
but so far it's been a murfy level every other time, and they have not been fun to me at all.

So many people said that the murfy stages were only like 10-20%, or one every world....
rubbish, absolute lies and i'm really annoyed.
unless they've crammed them all into the first world, i think i might end up preferring origins.
game is gorgeous though!

I'm in the fourth world (who'd have thought that stealth and underwater levels would mix so well?) and yeah, the game is structured pretty much like this:

- Normal level
- Murfy level
- Unlockable character
- Normal level
- Murfy level
- Second unlockable character
- Dark Teensie chase
- Boss battle
- Music level
.

Also, the Murty-with-buttons levels play better than I thought. For the most part it's an extra layer of timing that fits in well rather than an annoyance, and I could see some of those levels being frustrating with AI-controlled characters.

EDIT: The uplay rewards are hilarious btw. A standard theme and a bunch of lums. Yay.

In the first world though the unlockable character level was a murfy one,
is that not normally the case?
I'm hoping they start to become less frequent after world 1.

Murfy levels are almost half the levels so far,

Does this mean that the Wii U version is missing levels that PS3 and 360 have or does this mean that on top of all the Murfy levels in the Wii U version, that the Wii U version has all of the other versions levels?

well looks like i wont get this for a bit longer. Game stuffed up my order by dispatching it to my old address even though i changed my delivery address when i moved home. and now game support are sticking their fingers in their ears and claiming the delivery address of an order cannot be changed. I' in talks with DPD to try and get the parcel forwarded onto the correct address. hopefully they can sort it.

Personally I like the Murphy level on Wii U so far, but I can see why some won't like them.

Finished the 1st world at 100%, and I'm really loving it, such a great game with awesome soundtrack.

Each world has a different mini-game for the characters, yes.

that's a relief to hear i guess, I like everything else about the game.
the murfy ones would be fine if it was just one or two every world, not half the levels.

I agree with the reviewer that said you'll dread the sight of murfy flying on to the screen.
It might be better on ps360, i hate being restricted to watching the level on the gamepad screen and not doing the platforming myself.
I'll keep going but if it continues i might have to do a swap for ps3.
such a shame, i was counting on this being best on wii u for sure,
they really should have given the option to do the platforming as well on the wii u.

If it's any consolation the other three worlds all have Rayman levels for the unlockable characters, and I think the same is true of the fifth one. Murfy stages get a fair bit more complex, though.

I guess I was right to put uplay as a negative, haha. Hopefully they solve that soon.

Yeah. As from world three (I reached fourth world as well) the Murfy levels are really interesting and fun, nothing like the demo one either.

I feel like I should get this on Vita but the "worse graphics" part on the OT made me rethink this.

How much worse are we talking about?

Not much worse. It's worse because it's a lower resolution (544p instead of 1080p) but it being on a small screen + that screen being an OLED screen means it still looks great.
