Rayman Legends |OT| "It's a bit like a porno" (Michel Ancel) WiiU/360/PS3/Vita/PC

Cool. I finally learned gaming purchasing habits are all about principles. Can't believe I didn't realize that.

well it's no good complaining about something like 99% of WiiU owners did & saying they were going to boycott the game & then going out & buying it is there ?

a few people have said on other forums that they had it on order for the WiiU & cancelled & ordered it for their PS3 or X360 because it was much cheaper & wanted to boycott the game for the WiiU.

Ubi don't care about the WiiU so why should anyone care about Rayman on the WiiU now, if Ubi were that interested then they would of released the finished game as it was back in February.

i am still waiting to decide which version of WatchDogs i am going to cancel as i have both WiiU & X360 Dead Sec versions on pre-order, if things like DLC or multiplayer ect are missing from the WiiU version then that's the one that will get cancelled.

If Ubisoft didn't care about the Wii U, they wouldn't have put the game out on it. They cared about not bleeding money from releasing it a Wii U exclusive.

So for most of the people that have the game already, the console versions are the way to go? I don't have a Wii U (yet).

Hmm, two Murfy stages per world is a bit much.

what's with all the rumours/ false information about the number of murfy satges,
you have then game, but others have it as well.
This kind of thing is important and could influence peoples choice of purchase.
there are not 2 per world.
there are 5 in the first world, that's 50% of the stages.
Ubisoft and even the reviews have been shady, dancing around about the percentage.
Can we please not do the same.

I've been playing the worlds out of order, looking at Teensies in Trouble it has three main stages using the Murfy mechanics and the smaller character unlocking stages are both fast paced Murfy stages.
Okay my bad, the rest of the worlds have a much more even balance, usually just two stages with another smaller one maybe popping up for a character unlock.

Why they chose to actually open the game with a Murfy stage I will never know.

So it's pretty easy to unlock the Land of the Livid Dead part deux even before finishing the game. And it's... disappointing? sort of? For those who want to know
It's seven stages, one of which is a really easy new musical level and the other six are 8-bit versions of all the musical levels... with a fisheye visual effect.
. It's SUPER TRIPPY haha. Hopefully there's more to it, though.

I was very interested in this for my WiiU & the demo was really good, in fact it made me pre-order it, until it was put on ice & held back until the X360/PS3 versions were ready, the game was good to go gold but it was pulled, as soon as i found out i cancelled my order & will never pay money for it.

I hope the game bombs worse than W101 has.

Ubi crossed the line with what they did to us WiiU owners & have not been forgiven, it's all about the principles !

They added something like 30 new levels, so it's not like it's just been sitting around for 6 months collecting dust.

If the game had released on Wii U in February, and was now releasing on other platforms with a bunch of extra content a lot of Wii U owners would be pissed.

Ultimately, Wii U owners boycotting the game sends Ubisoft the message that games don't sell on Wii U. Which isn't really what you want right?

OK, so it does get a little better:
each 8-bit remix messes with the screen in a different way, fisheye, static, HEAVY pixelation... I stopped before the fifth one because I haven't finished the normal version yet. Also no checkpoints at all.
. Doing that also got me the ticket for my first Mystic Peak level and
Mecha No Mistake is not in... but I think the original Land of the Livid Dead is, lol. I can't help but wonder where the teensies will be.

Got it for the PS3 yesterday (thanks to a friend from UK) and I love it.

One question - is it possible to remap "run" from R2 to any other button? I really hate DS3 triggers.

Seriously, the Murfy stages are fine so far. Don't get your panties in a bunch, people.

Yup, they're not so bad. I've only finished Teensies in Trouble so far, and though the concentration is kinda high, they're usually not unpleasant to play.

My main issue with them is actually the choice of button; why not map Murfy to L1/left bumper so that I don't have to take my thumb away from the jump or punch button?

I'll probably end up buying the PS3 version later after I get the Wii U version on launch day. It's really dumb to not include the non-touch control scheme for Murfy levels in the Wii U version as an option.

Eh I played the PC version today and I definitely prefer the Wii U version. Without the touch screen controls it just feels tacked on and pointless in a way.

The Wii U Legends is still far and away the most popular on Amazon UK. With that said, the near total lack of a high-street presence for the console means that only the grandest of trolls will pretend to be astonished when other formats versions take a bigger slice of the pie.

"Not so bad" and "usually not unpleasant to play". Let's get a sticker made up for the box with these quotes.

;)

The Murfy stuff isn't terrible, but I would have much preferred a normal level. As it is, there's maybe 3, sometimes 4 normal stages per world. The rest are Murfy levels, very simple running stages to unlock characters, really easy boss fights, and the music levels, which are charming, but not nearly as challenging as the treasure chest chases from Origins. There's only 6 worlds, compared to Origins 8, with the sixth one being a bunch of rehashes.

Yeah, new content is a bit lacking in that area. On the bright side, the normal levels themselves ARE great, as are the invaded variants. It controls even better than Origins, and looks even better, somehow. Music is still fantastic. And hey, they included a lot of levels from Origins, so bonus!

Holy... what is with this game on PC? I run BF3 on Ultra settings with 60fps. Rayman legends on 1080p? It runs like shit!

I'm talking about the Demo btw. Maybe the full version runs better, but definitely not buying it right now!

"Not so bad" is weird. I'm actually having fun with the Murfy (Wii U) levels and they bring more variety than "just another" normal level. I can't understand the fear that this would suck. The game has more content than Origins. There is a real effort (and a success at that) to make something new and pleasant and the reactions are "uh I wanted more classical platformer levels". Let's try to enjoy what is offered at least. I find it great personally, it's not like they turned the game into a low level mobile touch game.

Now that the engine has 3D elements as well, I highly doubt it. That'l be the remit of the PC version.

However, Rayman Origins ran at 1080 on all consoles so the difference won't be huge between any of those.

If you have the monitor for it, the assets seems to be high resolution enough that going beyond 1080p on PC would make it look better.

I heard the Wii U version would receive the best lighting (at least among the consoles). Is that true?

There's comparison video on gametrailers and imo 360 looks better lol.

Really? I'm goona go check that out.

What's here is very good, with some great improvements to the original but it's a bit lacking compared to Origins, if one were to discard all the recycled levels. Far and away the best levels in the game are the regular platforming levels, it's really not some crazy opinion to wish for more of those.

The challenge rooms get better in world 4. That whole world is great(with the Murfy levels naturally being the weak link, but they're "not so bad").

Put it like this, Rayman Origins took me about 10 hours to get to the last world, I'm getting to Legends' last world in almost half the time. And the last world is just
a bunch of 8-bit rehashes of levels you've already played. Several month delay well spent

Have you dug into the Invasion levels yet?

And how are the Origins levels represented? Did they make some good picks to bring into Legends?

Still can't get Challenge mode to work on my Steam/Uplay version of the game, and I've tried everything: turning off proxy in Uplay, adding Rayman and Uplay to the list of exceptions in my firewall, turning off firewall completely, verifying game cache in Steam, restarting Steam and PC... and I'm still getting that damn "Ubisoft servers are momentarily unavailable. Please try again later" message. Some other people said they can access challenges without any problems, so - does anyone have any idea how can I get this to work?

And if it does work for you, what proxy settings do you use in Uplay (that info can be found in the settings section of the Uplay client)?

Btw, I've had same problem while playing the demo and checking the leaderboards, but I thought it just wasn't available back then. Also, PS3 demo worked fine and showed leaderboards without any server issues.

It is, I hope I'm not giving the impression it's bad, because it's still a great game. It builds on Origins in a lot of ways, with better controls like carrying your momentum through your attacks, and it looks even better with the new rendering they're using. The music is fantastic, and it's just an utter joy to move and run and hop and wall-run, etc. But quite frankly, if this game released in the state it was back in Feb without some of the new bonus sections and Origins, I'd be crazy disappointed. The Murfy sections are consistently the worst parts of every world, and the music chases, while amusing, aren't nearly as challenging and satisfying as the treasure chest races they replace.

But there are some really great levels in here. Anybody's who a fan of Origins is gonna really enjoy this game. There's one level in world 5 that's like the Rayman Origins/Legends version of Platform Panic from DKCR, but completely vertical. That might not mean much to anybody but me, Nocturnowl and Xtortionist, but that's about as high praise as I can give. The Invasion levels as well are short little race tracks, but they're all pretty fun and some of them are pretty devious, more than the music levels at any rate. You only get one hit, and you got start from the beginning when you fail. Nothing as arduous as the treasure chases so far, but they keep you on your toes

And hey, half of Origins is in this game anyway, so there's that! They've changed some of the collectible placements around, and the new rendering actually makes it look even better. And with the improved controls, they're that much more satisfying to play. Some really fine level choices here overall, but the lack of Mecha No Mistake makes a grown man cry.

Honestly, this is a great, 8/10 game, hell bump it up to a 9/10 if you throw in all the Origins stuff. It's just as a sequel to what I consider one of(if not the) finest 2D platformer of the last 15 years, it feels a bit...slight, in comparison. Like they were working on half the budget, and figured mediocre touch screen fluff would be just as good content. It's a shame, because the good stuff that's here, is REALLY good. Just some odd restrictions and some design decisions I don't care for holding it back from me putting on the same tier as Origins. All the while, it's still worth playing.

OMG this game is amazing, it feels made for Wii U, can't imagine the touch screen levels on other hardware (consoles). (well maybe vita or 3DS) good job Ancel and team.

I played origins on vita but this is a whole other level.

Wii U version for me.

I really want them to return to 3D Rayman after this. An actual Rayman 4 with the Rabbids being enemies like that trailer they showed before they scrapped it and turned it into a party game.

This is how mine look, I think they're default. Challenges worked fine right away so I can't really help you beyond that. Maybe a port forwarding issue?

As far as i know KungFoot is advertised as online multiplayer but on PC i don't know how to invite my friends. Is KungFoot converted to offline multiplayer or what?

Sign me up for a new 3D Rayman. I really hope Legends does well enough for Ubi to sit up and take notice; ideally I'd love them to split the brand again, with the Origins/Legends games continuing ala New Super Mario Bros and the 3D game becoming the beginnings of a Mario Galaxy-style series.

Yep, those are default ones. I'll try to play a bit with ports and port forwarding, but man, I can't describe how much I hate problems like these :/

Haha, my friend just noticed this. On the Xbox 360-version of the game, they only changed the number of players to 4 in norwegian and english. In danish and swedish it still says you can play up to 5 players, as in the Wii U-edition :D

Screw you guys, I wish there were more Murphy levels! ;) They're incredibly inventive and fun, especially in coop. Stick that on the box :)

Seeing the PS3 version of those levels with button presses replacing touch screen (effectively a whole level of QTEs) I'm super glad I went for the WiiU version.

Played a couple more hours last night; I'll reiterate that (so far) this may be the best 2D platformer I've played since SMW and is definitely the most fun I've had in a game this generation.

Got the game yesterday. I finished the first world and played some levels in the other worlds.

The game is awesome. It looks great, has nice music and sound effects and plays great too. I'm a bit surprised at the amount of Murfy levels though, especially in the first world. It's not that i really mind them (playing on ps3 btw) but i still prefer the traditional Rayman only gameplay. I asume that the Murfy levels are fun in co-op though.

My only criticism so far is that there seems to be less traditional levels this time around. Instead of remixing the Origins levels, i think i would have preferred a few more new levels. Same goes for the music which largely builds around the themes of the first game. It all feels a tad too familiar (then again, i spent a lot of time playing Origins).

What i really miss though is a "retry level" button at the score screen. If you want to retry a level, you either have to restart before you reach the end of the level or otherwise go through the score screen, go back to the menu and start the level again. It's a bit strange that the developers didn't include that option.

But yes, all in all, a very nice game that puts a smile on my face.
