VOID Interactive CEO Julio Rodriguez has announced that Ready or Not has sold over 1 million units on console in under 4 days.
The announcement came on Rodriguez's LinkedIn profile, where he revealed that the 1 million sales milestone was 10 times faster on console than it was on PC when it launched in December 2023.
Ready or Not's console release, which hit stores on July 15, 2025, has received generally positive reviews and saw its concurrent PC player count triple in size.
On the achievement, Rodriguez said, "I'm incredibly proud of the team and what we've accomplished together. It's a huge moment — and one we don't take for granted."
He continued to say that "team is already hard at work ironing out issues and continuously improving the experience."
Ready or Not is an immersive first-person tactical shooter that follows a group of SWAT operators who need to resolve a crime wave hitting the fictional city of Los Sueños.
Crimes include robberies, mass shootings, drug busts, and more. The game can be played in single-player or in multiplayer with friends.

Unsurprising there's very few other games like it on Consoles, great to see it doing well nonetheless.

Just read about the censorship, what a shame, not a good look for the game and for its developers

I thought i was a gaming enthusiast but nowadays there are million sellers out of nowhere.

What even is Ready or Not? Where did it come from? Am I this out of touch all of a sudden?

Doesn't look that great when comparing to other FPS games.
Theres not many FPS games out now that aren't Fortnite clones or storefronts with a game included.

This is more for people who enjoy tactical shooters like SWAT. If you want adrenaline pumping fast paced action, this isn't it.

It's been a mainstay on the Steam Top Sellers recently too, despite review bombing

Edit: Wow, it's the #1 selling game on Steam right now.

And that's with no sale right now. It was presumably a top seller during the Steam Summer Sale for that reason.

In that case they wouldnt have bought a console in the first place.
Why? How many more examples are there like this?
I can't remember the last time something big like this happened.
You know what's even worse, that they censored stuff on the PC too.
Like imagine you buy a game and then later it gets censored, you should have the right to get your money back.

Shame about the censorship, but glad it had a succesful debut on consoles.

I was reading about this the other day, and the developer, I think he's the owner of Void or something like that, basically said the game had to be censored on PC because of crossplay with consoles. I don't know, I think the PC crowd is overreacting a bit about this censorship. I mean, censorship is always bad, sure, but it wasn't anything outrageous.

That said, I do think the devs were lazy about it. They could've asked the community whether they even wanted crossplay or not, or at least made it optional. People who don't plan on playing with console players could've had the uncensored version. Of course, it's easier to have just one version of the game to update and maintain, but it's not like giving the option for an uncensored version would bankrupt the company.

or an option to turn cross play on and off that turns the censorship on and off.

I was surprised to hear this did well.

I remember playing swat 4 on pc almost 20 years ago and that shit was amazing, but it only released on pc iirc and it was never a huge hit sales wise. As this is very similar to that I didn't think it would take off.

Reading some of the replies here, is crazy how out of touch with the gaming world are some, if the games are not the bullshit AAA slop from big publishers.

What exactly was censored?
They removed some nudity and gore to satisfy console overlords.

It is true that the changes are in fact relatively minor, but it's the principle of the matter that has PC players upset. That content was in the game for years and supported the "dark" atmosphere/vision the devs had for the game. PC Players supported the game and a new dev through early access.

Now, because of a console release, PC has content removed? On top of a forced visual downgrade (texture res & detail has been knocked down even on highest PC settings)?

No bueno. Hope console works out for them (seems like it) because the PC community is going to take extreme caution buying anything from VOID again.

To clarify further, sourced from multiple articles, these were the names of the missions and the changes:

  1. Twisted Nerve: The depiction of a young girl who was previously shown convulsing is now altered to show her sleeping instead.
  2. A Lethal Obsession: Adjustments were made to the nudity of a suspect in a ghillie suit.
  3. Hide and Seek: All female hostages now wear undergarments, which were previously not depicted.
  4. Narcos: The police informant hostage now wears underwear, changing the previous depiction.
  5. 23 Megabytes a Second: The "Photo of Minors" objective model was revised to better connect with the narrative of the later mission "Sinuous Trail."
  6. Post-mortem Dismemberment: This feature has been disabled, meaning players can no longer dismember characters after they are dead (post-mortem mutilation), although dismemberment for living characters remains unchanged.

Compared to what ? SWAT 4 (2005) ?
Shame people pay for censored stuff.
Should have voted with their wallet and sent a message.
That would be a shame if STEAM would run new rules of bank payment that would delist complete games, gamers would vote with their wallets and outright send a message to STYG (Saint Tropez Yacht God), right my dude? wait a minute 💀

Give it a week, gamers forget a thousand things every day, look at Helldivers 2 it was DEFCON 1 over there.

Too bad, this is just stupid. And you are right, it's about the principle that matters and I can understand early supporters being disappointed.

Are games like this big on some streams or something?
This doesn't look interesting to me at all.
I mean, I finished whole swat 4 back in the day, so maybe it's that to gen z nowadays

It's shockjock slop full of edge, trying (and succeeding, apparently) to capitalize on the much more tasteful edginess of SWAT 4.

Console having to pick up the slack as usual.
What slack? The game has sold 9M copies on PC... lmao

What, we're supposed to care that all the consoles together reached some arbitrary number faster, after the game's been out and known for a long time on PC already?

They did though. "Voting with your wallet" doesn't only count when it's a choice you agree with.

People decided they didn't care and wanted to play it anyways. That still counts as voting with their wallet.

Also, I'm guessing 99.9% of that 1 million do not even know about changes that were made for the console version, and wouldn't care if they found out.

The developers could have voted with their wallet and not released a console version/get console money if they thought the changes would infringe on their artistic expression/liberties. They also voted with their wallets and decided they didn't care enough about the changes or that it didn't matter if they made those changes.

Everyone involved voted with their wallets here, and we ended up with 1 million copies sold on console. Democracy in action, if you ask me.

Voting with their wallet would mean them redusing to pay cash for steam games. Turns out - you pay with anything else and the bank is using you as their wallet and so they get to vote with your money.

This game wouldn't exist without Swat 4, but this subgenre would also be just about dead without Ready or Not, because Swat was not coming back, Bodycam didn't have a campaign, and Ubisoft had abandoned old-school Ghost Recon and old-school Rainbow Six.

Pretty much this. The success of this game, hopefully gets Ubisoft to get their heads out of their asses or other studios to make more games like this.
