The Cryptarch's Bane
Douche has always sounded like a German word to me.

Fart too.
Most monosyllabic English words will sound vaguely German, if you really sit and listen to them, unless they're strict borrowings from other languages. Gong would be one example.

edit: The reason for this of course is that English is a Germanic language despite having extreme (maybe the heaviest?) influence from a large variety of lexicons from around the world.

Goddamnit, I actually got started trying to trace its origin to correct you before I got it :'(

*pats Hawk on the back*

It's okay, last night I totally missed a fintastic pun.

Not one of my favourite FF games, but FFVIII had some of the best battle themes at least.

Boss battle theme.

I don't really like the normal battle theme much actually. Did enjoy The Man with the Machine Gun though. Why couldn't the game have been about Laguna? At least he was entertaining.

Not even the boss battle theme? :/

I think they are a little better than the FFVII ones, and they were great too.

I'm not a huge fan of most FF battle themes actually. Tons of games do them way better. There are a few I like.

Man with a Machine Gun.

Edit: Reading up, you already admitted to this. CARRY ON.

Gilgamesh, FF5 (GIRUGAMESH)
FF12 boss battle music
FF3 boss battle
oh, and...ff7 boss battle :< *braces for impact*

Uematsu is my favourite video game composer really. There is always a catchy hook to all his songs.

Uematsu is okay. I prefer Shimomura or Meguro.

And if Darren Korb or the guy who did Machinarium would make more game soundtracks, I'd add them to the list as well.

Uematsu's always been kind of overrated to me. I mean, he's made some classics, but his good:bad ratio is way off.

Hamauzu and Mitsuda are more talented but work on far less.

In terms of catchiness, when Shimomura is on her game, she's basically unequaled.

Well, I go by his good work rather than his bad. FFVII is his best work for me. More recent work, I think Lost Odyssey was okay. Not amazing, but still decent enough.

Who composed Secret of Mana? Tales of Symphonia?

Those were my favorites.

Mana was Kikuta. Last notable thing I remember him working on was, uh, porn games.

Most mainline Tales games are done by Sakuraba. I'm not a fan, personally. All his stuff sounds the same and even he admits to it, saying it's what Tales audiences expect from the music.

It is pretty nice but it works way better in context than as something to listen to outside of it. Skyrim worked well as both.

Now, you see I don't even remember single theme in Skyrim. It works more as background music. Lord of the Rings for instance had great background music, but I don't remember any of it. It is there simply to create a certain mood.

When I think of great game soundtracks, I think of simplistic tunes that focus quite heavily on catchy melodies. Things that you always remember.

Everyone remembers Mario's theme tunes because they are simple catchy melodies. It's not just background music.

This made me look for the Machinarium guy, and he has an album you can listen to on his site that's pretty great. Honestly, just the kind of thing I've been looking for. Might have to buy.

Some of my favorite soundtracks:

Persona 4
Nocturne
Raidou 2
Machinarium
Bastion
Portal 2
Bayonetta
Kingdom Hearts II
Legend of Mana
Nier (OF COURSE)
Crystal Bearers
Xenoblade
Final Fantasy X
Scott Pilgrim
Shadow Hearts II

I pretty much listen to these aaaaaall the time. There are still a lot of other great tracks on other soundtracks, but these soundtracks I feel are overall just great.

I think FFVII is my favourite soundtrack.

I'll give an example of why I like it so much.

A simple track. It conveys exactly what the title suggests 'hurry faster' while also managing to add a really catchy hook into it. That being at the 1 minute level. There are so many tracks where he manages to do this.

Brofist! Yes you can give them too.

There was a point in my life that I hummed the music from this one outdoor area in Legend of Mana nonstop for like a month, due to a particular thing I spent way too much time on in that game.
edit: I really ought to give Nier a shot by now, too...

Yes. You should. What is keeping you?

I'd think better of FFVII's OST if Aerith's theme were not such a blatant reuse of Celes' theme.

Hahaha, yeah it makes me cry too. ;.;

I love you guys.... but sometimes it gets to 'geeky' in here for me..... game-soundtracks are not my thing

Tence. It's a video game board. These things happen.

wait, so what's this thread about?

It began as a thread where people posted their real pictures, but as we got to know each other it became a thread about real people talking about their life and interests in a friendly manner. While we might seem like a closed community, we're welcoming to anyone who wants to join us. No real pics or anything necessary!

Ahem *flicks the switch*

Well, you should look at it more in its entirety.

A track hasn't only got to be interesting it has to be appropriate for the setting and what exactly is going on within the game.

The track in the Mako Reactor is absolute perfect for the setting. Again he manages to put an interesting hook into the track around the 1 minute mark.

I'm happy Advent Children was made if for nothing else than the soundtrack. The movie itself was blatant fan service from beginning to end, and I loved it.

Well what do you want to talk about Mr. Tence?

1080p version of that movie is so worth the nonsensical story and tensionless conflict.

Psh, at least game soundtracks can be in the guise of orchestral arrangements and stuff...

what about those of us that are into ANIME soundtracks =X

Oh, I think I remember that. I did only play FF6 once, after all.

And stopped after I had Celes and Setzer forced onto me during the World of Ruin.

You have the two best characters in the game... and you call it forced... ._.

Oh Beef...

Also, confession time: I mostly listen to game soundtracks, classical, or any music where vocals are either non-existent or not the focus. My iPod is ENTIRELY FILLED WITH GAME SOUNDTRACKS. I am a geek and I don't even care.
