Personally I HATE that memory fuzziness. Hate not knowing what happened the night before. After a couple bad events while blacked out I've had to cut out drinking for the most part. Still enjoy a drink every now and then though.

Also my therapist told me that walking blackouts are a serious sign of liver failure. That if they're happening you've already damaged it a lot. So for my precious organs I don't do that anymore. Plus the whole mental health journey of being able to deal with yourself and life while sober. Bleh.

No offense to your therapist but unless she/he is a renal specialist or general practitioner then they cannot possibly make that assessment of your blackouts. Walking blackouts (blackouts in general) can be signs of numerous things as well as nothing at all. Sounds like it was more of a scare to just get you to stop drinking (a positive thing) but I think that assessment could have been made without scaring you into thinking you already have a failing liver.
All of that aside, blackouts are not good and if things happened you regret but do not remember then you have made a very wise decision to stop drinking as much.

I've only blacked out once, back when I was a freshman in college. I remember going to my neighbor's room with him and some girls, then I remember one of them suggesting we go back to my room because my roommate's laptop had better music.

The next thing I remember was vomiting and hoping someone had dropped me off in the bathroom and I wasn't vomiting on my floor.

(They hadn't and I was)

Unless you're executive or have aspirations, that rule is bullshit.

It can still end up a bit on the messy side :)

So apparently a thread on The Wrath of Kahn is fine for people to post Into Darkness spoilers in.

Hooraaaaay.

I finally decided to get back into an anime for the first time in a century and had the latest episode spoiled for me in a completely unrelated topic on the gaming side :|

My god! my god!

It's pretty much kicking off again on gaming side.

Microsoft at the end of the conference stated that games will not need an 'always-on' connection. And you'd think the whole thing was put to bed. Then came the news that the next Xbox would block used games. It was then stated that you would be able to trade and resell your games, "for a fee". So what is this fee Microsoft? Well, the price of the game. LOL

Oh that's just the beginning. It has now been established that, actually, you need to be connected every 24 hours or else you are not able to play your games. So, yes, an internet connection is in fact required. Not quite as bad as was originally thought, but only slightly better.

Unbelievable!

I'm not getting the next Xbox, I'm content with just buying the PS4, so the whole thing has been rather amusing to me.

Damage control in full effect it seems.

Reports of Xbox One's online requirements and used-game fees are no more than "potential scenarios" and not concrete details, Microsoft told Polygon via email.

"While Phil [Harrison] discussed many potential scenarios around games on Xbox One, today we have only confirmed that we designed Xbox One to enable our customers to trade in and resell games at retail," Microsoft told Polygon.

What the fuck is going on? lol

Phil is doing damage control but the damage is done. I don't know many informed people who will purchase the new Xbox based on this information alone. I guess there is always the crowd that doesn't know any better but I have a feeling we are going to see some very interesting news articles come launch day.

What does it mean when a company says they offer a 10% differential on salaries? I was talking to a GEICO lady and she said if you work the afternoon shift, they give a 10% differential? the fuck is that?

I think it has to do with the amount of money they'll put in towards a retirement fund in your name.

Some companies offer a "shift differential." In the case of the companies I have worked for it was a flat dollar amount added to your hourly wage if you worked second or third shift hours. I haven't seen it presented as a percentage but in my experience that would mean you get 10% of your base pay added for each hour you work on second shift. For example, if my base pay was 12 dollars an hour plus a 1 dollar second shift differential I would effectively make 13 dollars an hour.

I knew that you get substantial bonuses if you're working the night shift, but I had no idea the second shift gets a bonus as well.

Not true for all places of course but yeah I have been paid a differential on second shift before and it's becoming more common practice in this area.

Yeah. They're taking the hardcore gamer for granted really. They are the people who bought the Xbox 360 day one and stuck with it despite having to put up with the RROD bullshit, the overexpensive peripherals, and the constant 'nickel & diming'. Even putting up with Microsoft's sudden focus on Kinect and the casual market. It is those people that will shell out the $400/$500 it will probably cost come launch. And yet they can't even give a straight answer about the direction they are really headed. If you're going to try and shove this anti-consumerist bullshit down people's throat, at least be honest about it instead of trying to deflect the questions. One executive says one thing, while another executive says something else. Then they go on about how they're not sure what it is they're doing. The whole thing is a mess.

I'm not even sure what exactly their message was or who for. They come out on stage and start blabbing on about, "Ooh Look! Wave your hands around like this and you can bring up Skype while watching a movie!". The people they're trying to reach with that are not the people who are going to buy this console at launch. They should not be undermining those people the way they are.

I think the biggest problem was not that they're going ahead with this 'always-online' bullshit and blocking used games, but that they seem to be running around like headless chickens not knowing exactly what is they are really doing. It's just a huge PR mess.

This interview says it all. The answers do not make it any more clear. lol

I agree, it's a pretty big mess. I know Nintendo isn't considered to be doing fantastic right now but I still bought a Wii U. It seems they are at least attempting to court indie developers and the exclusives are there, I can't say no to Mario/Zelda/Metroid etc.

With Microsoft it seems they had an idea of where the market was going, acted on it early then as luck would have it they were wrong. I know Sony will be leaving it up the developers to implement their own DRM type services if they want but at the same time I doubt many will, especially if the direction people are going after seeing Xbox One is any inclination.

I stuck through the 360 despite RROD twice and ignorant XBL practices. This is really asking too much though. I do not support such practices on the PC and do not intend to with the console market. I do not make a ton of money, I rarely am able to afford a game at release. The used market is invaluable to me. I will not jump through hoops to buy pre owned games nor will I pay a "fee" if I want to take games to friends houses / let them borrow said games as I am accustom to doing.

We may see a shift in their plans come launch day because of pressure from consumer and the media but for me the damage is done.

I think there has probably already been a shift or two in their plans prior to the conference. I think the rumours about it needing a constant internet connection and stopping games after 3 minutes if the connection went down might have been true. After the huge backlash online about that, maybe they decided to change it a little and have it check every 24 hours instead.

I agree, the way they have handled this whole situation has destroyed their credibility as a gamer-centric company. I think they're more concerned about competing with Apple and Samsung than appeasing the gaming community to be honest,

Who cares about next gen? Animal Crossing is almost here.

Hell I am content with just playing my 3DS in general. Speaking of which, is the XL worth getting if I already have the original 3DS?

There is something I'm wondering about. What accent does Adam Sessler have? It is probably the most nasal of accents I have ever heard. It is incredibly nasal. It sounds like he has a cold it is that nasal. lol

I'm guessing it is East Coast.
