Preordered a Majora's Mask New 3DS XL.

"Do you have an existing 3DS you might be able to trade in?"

"Um maybe."

50 hours later when the girl was finished explaining all of the things I could trade towards it I finally got to pay the deposit down. Then the "wow I bet you're excited for some of these great upcoming games that you could preorder" small talk begins, culminating in the shocking revelation that "The New Zelda for WiiU is just going to be called 'The Legend of Zelda' without any subtitles, it says so on our computers!"
 
Computers don't make mistakes. The name must be set in stone. An obsidian stone with golden flakes.

I have no idea where I'm going with this. It's always so fun trying to be sold this and that preorder, strategy guide. The whole time, I'm just thinking "Steam Sale".

I avoid those stores for that very reason.

Also, because I don't want to listen to some kids little (BUT SO LOUD) speaker that he has hooked up to his phone that is blasting music that keeps buffering because he is on some old shit service, while waiting in line behind some other adult male and his mom.

IDK sometime in february. The game is getting mailed to me by an unrelated store. The console is coming out sometime in feb and I'll get an alert on my phone the day before or something.
 
So I bought This War of Mine in the last Steam sale, due in part to sizable GAF hype train. I can't tell whether Katia or I am suffering more. I can't tell if I've ever been quite so simultaneously bored and tormented by a game. I can't decide if I feel more horrified by its treatment of the civilian affects of war as a crafting/god game, or by the fact that I seem to be stuck in some kind of existentialist nightmare where everyone but Katia keeps dying, but she stays, lumbering around half-dead, depressed, and surviving.

That's why you always cut to the chase with employees at a game store and avoid most unnecessary conversation. You'll just be wasting your time unless you actually know the person and have some sort of rapport with them.

Fuck outta here wid dat. It was refreshing to see a game that wasn't afraid to punish you for sucking in the age of games holding your hand from beginning to end, but people (not just GAF, the whole damn internet) need to stop treating that series like it's Jesus incarnate and we're all 100% faithful Christians.

Dark Souls is god. And god is real.

It's an enjoyable game but meh.

The game is so boring it makes me want to do anything else but play it. The combat is plodding and slippery and the enemy designs are, with a few exceptions, lacking any kind of creativity. Then they make you do it over and over again because the bosses are incredibly difficult to beat on the first few tries. Edit: The enemy hit boxes are oftentimes ill defined which creates this odd zone where you should be hitting the guy but instead you slide around them like you're both on greased up canvas which then leaves you vulnerable for a counter-attack because the combat animations are non-cancelable and take about 4 hours each swing.

I have a deep dislike of Dark Souls. Just thinking about my time with it makes me get all uppity.

Dark Souls 2 was a vast improvement but I still found it hard to hold my attention because of the combat. It felt like Armored Core but with big slow bladed weapons. Which makes sense I guess given the developer.

I know this kind of feeds into my "I hate everything" schtick but it frankly baffles me how popular a FROM SOFTWARE game that plays just like their other games has become. I think they really nailed the formula with Otogi and would much rather have a game with that type of combat again.

Which is a damn shame, series has some of the best boss fights in gaming. Nightmare mode Ys boss fights literally end up feeling like single player mmo bosses due to how much shit is going on and how everything can kill you so easy.

I'm afraid to try Dark Souls because I think trial and error is a poor answer for challenge and game design.

Courier just came. 9:50 pm. Wasn't in a truck or uniform; dude was driving his personal car and in sweats. Looks like he took time off his shift to deliver my package (which should have been delivered during it, but...). Nice guy.
