Recently finished my second playthrough of Sleeping Dogs

And it's just as awesome as when it came out. And I remember seeing footage back then when it was still called True Crime Hong Kong, I think it was. But then it was cancelled and SE swooped in. And that developer, UFG, they came out of nowhere and dropped a banger like this.

This game is just goddamned fun. The martial arts combat feels just as great and really reminds me of how much I miss proper hand to hand combat in GTA games. The cool rewards that you get after finishing missions. The story will always be great, interesting characters, the atmosphere and details, the many interiors you can access. Hell, even the driving mechanics grew on me and I ended up enjoying racing through HK, ramming cars and having shootouts at crazy speeds a whole lot.

The map isn't super big, but big enough and it makes good use of it. This game shows you don't need a ridiculously huge map with areas you barely ever visit in the story. Even the side stuff is worth it. What a great game this remains and while I'm a hardcore Rockstar fan I can admit that this game does several things better than GTA IV and V.

It's such a terrible shame that SE never greenlit a proper sequel, such a goddamned shame. Imagine what we could've had. But a movie actually is in the making, maybe this can spark interest for a proper new game. Question is, who would make it? Where did the United Front Games employees go to?

another question is, who hold the ip right now? it is currently still belong to Square Enix, or they already sold it to Embracers?

Sleeping Dogs is great. Platinumed it on PS3 and itching for another playthrough on PC. I hope I get around to it soon.

Sadly the game is locked at 30 fps. Seemingly, forever.

Not on Series X thanks to fps boost. That feature for BC games is fantastic.

That's a good question, at first I thought MS because Activision but of course not, since SE bought that IP. Man I remember how much I appreciated SE back then, because not only did they give this game new life, they also came with a new Hitman which at the time looked like a damn good one too. SE was making all the right moves back then.

I forgot to mention the humor. That dude at the parking lot where you select which car to drive always cracks me up with his comments.

Fantastic game, and kinda came out of nowhere.

I started a second run on pc some years ago but the repetitive batman combat bored me to death after a while.

Game is good otherwise.

It's fucking amazing and I still prefer this over GTAV. I just wish there was less gun play and more hand to hand combat at the end.

Another incredible fumble from the strategic masterminds at Square Enix.

Unbelievably poor handling of an amazing IP.

i remember the counter system is really op, all i do is spam the button and i counter every hit, not sure if i still rememeber correctly.

google says the "True Crime" name has been abandoned, so anyone could release a new one. Imo that original name was better anyway. I guess a new one could even use True Crime Hong Kong. I would not mind if Tencent and one of their chinese studios made True Crime Shanghai, True Crime Chongqing etc and a True Crime Paris, TC London, TC Rome by an European studio.

Anyone know what's the state of the game on next-gen consoles? It has a 60fps boost only on Xbox? I'd love to have a reason to replay the entire game again. ;)

It's stuck at 1080p30 on playstation. There's also quite a bit of crashing, though I'd be surprised if that is Playstation exclusive. Some people say it's a BC issue, but I've seen many complaints about the same issues on PS4 too back in the day.

That's a shame. I replayed the Definitive Edition on PS4 years back, but I don't remember it crashing massively.

Absolutely fantastic game all round and to echo others, such a shame Square Enix thought it didn't sell enough to justify a sequel. It was a brand new IP and was beloved, but they didn't believe in it.

There was apparently some spin off multiplayer game being made at one point (been while, I could be jumbling things up) but it was quickly canned. A sequel would be so damn awesome, but after all this time I doubt the same team is even working together anymore so the magic would probably be lost.

Combat, story, acting, characters, driving, music, traversal etc all fit together so perfectly. Brilliant game.

Dressing the Bruce Lee's yellow tracksuit and having some fight or simply riding a motorcycle through the streets of Hong Kong. I loved this game, shame the devs got nuked.

Hell yeah. I'm doing a new playthrough myself. The environment takedowns never get old.

The game runs at 60fps on Steam Deck btw. It's crazy to have such power in our hands.

Part of my backlog, I remember playing it on the 360 close its release, but its a hazy memory if it was a demo..

We saw in the GTA VI trailer that Lucia seems to be either doing MMA or Kickboxing, you'd think...nice, that's exciting. But knowing Rockstar and their modern GTA games like IV and V it's likely gonna be very simplistic, slow and just boring all because it needs to be ultra realistic or something.

GTA:SA had very fun hand to hand combat and you could even learn new moves but for some reason Rockstar loves taking fun away from GTA ever since IV. I wish they didn't do that and find a good balance.

My arc with this game is noticing it for sale on Xbox, giving it a hard look, realizing I should play it, winding up to buy, and realizing it was in my Steam backlog the whole time

I finished this a couple of times (once back in the day and again fairly recently). It's one of the better GTA games imo.

For those saying it's better than GTA V, shit I have to agree. Story wise absolutely, I never did think much of Vs story, but when it comes to the overall experience....for me as well.

According to Wikipedia these are the games they developed and a Sleeping Dogs 2 apparently was actually in development? This true? SE man, sigh.

It's on the PS5 naughty list.

Awesome game, one of my favorites in the genre. Its a shame they cancelled the sequel, I remember hearing some of the details about it and it sounded good.

Doesn't this run kinda crappy on PS5? Could've sworn it had issues...

I know on the PS4 Pro it definitely had problems

What a game though. Give this fucker a remaster.
