Red Dead Redemption |OT| Whistling Morricone in the desert

Is there an easier way of identifying what to do during random encounters? For example some guys were dragging a body through the streets of the town and firing into the air...but I didn't really understand what was going on and didn't want to possibly fire on some good guys. I'm pretty sure they were bad, but just didn't have a clue what would have happened if I opened fire.

In another situation I just saw two guys chasing a guy and firing at him...I decided to just follow them to see it through and didn't realize until the last moment due to the badges that they were chasing a bandit or something. By the time I caught up with him he reached his bandit hideout and had backup :lol.

And I assume I have to have a rope or something to take people alive for bounties?

Game is terrific thus far, just loving the atmosphere and the plot.

Nope. Now I'm pissed. No GC credit in my account, and no preorder bonus in the box. Amazon is getting yelled at tomorrow.

No Golden guns code in my Amazon pre order either, just a leaflet with Max Payne 3 on one side and an ad for the coop DLC on the other. No $20 credit either :(

:lol :lol

Playing Blackjack in Thieves landing and all of the sudden some drunk guy goes flying on his face behind me. Random shit ftw.

I'm pretty amazed at how good these mini-games are. I've been playing different ones for an hour now. :D

They usually occur frequently all over, so once you figure it out you can do what you need to do when you see it again.
I've come across those lawmen chasing a bandit--shoot or hogtie the bandit, people being dragged--shoot the rope. And other random people being hanged--shoot the rope.
Dead Eye needed to assure maximum success, partner.
Keep doing the missions for "B"
You will eventually get a lasso for your aresenal.

Never saw the movie yet. Seemed kinda slow & boring to me. Not that I have anything against slow movies but eh

It's one of the best movies ever made. Daniel Day-Lewis is God. Watch it.

Had my friend at gunpoint in mutliplayer and he pulled his rifle on me, only to holster it again. He said, "Alright, you got me..." just before a massive bear jumped out from behind me and took me out.:lol

I love the wildlife. We were back to back at one point fending off a massive pack of cougars. Those bastards are relentless.

Where do I find rabbits? I've found more freakin' deer than rabbits! Why do they have to be level 2? That's gotta be one of the hardest critters to see.

I'm sure it's been discussed, but online was a pile of fail for me tonight. My character model disappeared, leaving me blind when selecting a guy. I finally rebooted and got it back to find that I had selected some chubby Mexican dude :lol Other than that I got tons of "network errors" that randomly dumped me either to the dashboard or into single player (complete with loads). Very annoying and I was never successful in posseing up.

There are quite a few in the grassy area between McFarlane's ranch and Armadillo.

Oh god, me and my buddies spent like two whole hours trying to complete that :lol We could not find rabbits if our lives depended on it.

I saw a lot around the railroad tracks leading out of Armadillo.

I don't think there will be a backlash for this game. The offline portion is just about perfect. Seriously, I can't understand anyone, having a single deal breaking complaint about RDR's single player campaign.

Now, about the MP... I am sure it will get fixed, so I don't think it's really a problem. Plus we can all turn invisible! AWESOME!

Well the first few hours of the single player have been somewhat of a snooze fest in terms of what missions have been. I actually highly disliked all the herding ones...I had more fun playing Texas Hold 'Em than those quests. There's also been a few offline bugs for me and one where I got stuck in the air due to a rock made it so I couldn't go anywhere or do anything. Lucky I had just got done saving a minute or two before that so the reset wasn't too bad.

I'm waiting for the game to pick up though as most reviews have mentioned it starts off at a very slow drudge. If it never DOES though well then I'll be very sore and address my opinion about that to the internet masses. :p

So far though I love the shooting, the guns, how to upgrade outfits, and my favorite part is how incredible the sky looks----best sky in a game hands down. :lol

Online not looking too hot. I have had multiple moments where I can shoot a guy 4+ times with a revolver chest level or higher and he just comes running at me to knife me....I've had ENOUGH Rambo kills thanks to MW2 and this game having it too is pissing me off. I also do not like the invisible glitch that happens way too often, getting shot through cover, and the frequent error/disconnects I had earlier today in trying to play the online.

Good game so far, but I am starting to think it's another GTA4 in scoring within the media---VERY over hyped, and not enough slaps on the wrists for things like online not working right.

Anyone who didn't like GTA IV willing to give some impressions. Game looks amazing, I just want some confirmation that this just isn't GTA IV set in the west.

I'm still picking this up but I want to know if I should give Alan Wake a spin first before diving in.

So far the whole Gamespy online for PS3 has shown anything to really worry about. Pretty lag free, no glitches (aside from people getting randomly kicked after picking a match type while in free roam), and no voice chat problems.

EDIT: I'd have to say get both if you can. Picked up Alan Wake as well, just made it to Episode 2. Another great looking and playing game...and gets really tense if you play it on hard difficulty (which seems like it should be the default difficulty).

LOL...you got hustled son. Call the DM asap.

Seriously, thats something they werent supposed to do. If you show up at a midnight release, usually they still let you buy whatever version of a game you want. Working at Gamestop, the ONLY reason i've ever had to gut something is when we were lacking a new box to display on the floor.

Ok, somehow between playing poker and switching suits Marston lost his gloves.

This is bugging the crap out of me.

Anyone else encountered this issue? If so how do I get them back?

And yes I've already tried switching suits about 100 times.

It's hard to shake off the feeling that this is GTAIV in the wild west. I say that in a good way, it's quite a bit better though. The world is very interesting, the characters and story so far are much better, the controls feel better, etc. But the mission design and pacing are very similar. Escort, shooting, racing, taking on gang of enemies, shooting enemies on horseback (in car/bike for GTA natch).

If you absolutely detest everything GTAIV stands for you probably won't like RDR. But if you like the style of gameplay but couldn't get into it because of poor character development, or because you didn't like the city...you might like RDR.

Personally I'm enjoying it a lot, the atmosphere is just incredible. They absolutely nailed the feeling of what the wild west must have been like in the early 1900's. John Marsden is such a likeable character too, you grow to really like the guy very early on. The supporting cast is just as good.

The best part about the game is the random shit that happens when you're just roaming around. I can't tell you how many times I've been sidetracked by errant gunfire while making my way to a mission start point, it's always different and always interesting. Like saving a guy from bandits, or helping the cops catch escaping criminals. Love that aspect of game, it really makes the world feel more alive, dynamic even.

Game's amazing, but what's the deal with the run button? Why not just use the stick for that?

The pop-up sometimes gets annoying too. But other than that, this is one of the best games I've played in a while.

Game is good as I knew it would but one thing that bothers me a little and a lot of it is just me but when you ride up on someone to lasso them you sometimes ride past and because you have to use that "brake" button for the horse I often go right past breaking the lasso hold thus leaving me in a weird position. That's on me though to get used to the brake. Radial menu is not very intuitive though, at least an icon showing what you have currently equipped would be nice unless I'm not seeing it.

Anyway, lots of fun, about to cross the border I think.

Anyone got a hand on the dueling mechanics?

I'm kinda confused by them.

Also yes if someone knows how this work, specifically can you press something once you're satisfied with the painted spots and fire? I've only been in two duels so far (won both) and I'm at 30% complete which is decent amount.

Big-ass Ramp

hella bullets that's true
I guess you can't shoot horses without people getting angry? Didn't know that. I publicly shot a horse infront of everyone and they started shooting at me. :lol

LOL! Me too! Also, you all need to watch the movie in the Armadillo Theater. Simply fantastic! Oh yea, one bug. I had killed a horse by accident and I was going to skin him but he just fell through the ground ala Alex Rodriguez in MLB 2k9.

Just finished playing for today, logged about 6 hours throughout the day. I'm about to go to Mexico.

This game is absolutely amazing, favorite game this year so far easily.

I've been playing around with it and the best result I've had was pulling LT right after your opponent draws, and waiting until his gun/hand is about to be pointed at you, then painting his gun/hand. You get an ass ton of fame and honor, more than any other way I'm sure.

Thanks man, do you do anything to fire early or do you have to wait for it to run it's course, the painting I mean.

Just saw the craziest ambient event. Was running around at night hunting coyotes and suddenly I stumble on a couple out in the woods chatting.
Suddenly the husbaand pulls a gun and shoots his wife...then he leans over crying and then shoots himself. Now I am standing over both bodies lying next to each other(I search them and get $10).

But damn...that was unexpected and powerful.

I wish you had spoiler tagged that, but WOW. I will get the game friday, since I'm in Europe, but it's things like these which I can imagine make the game feel really immersive. Wow. I bet it makes the world feel really alive!

I just let it run it's course, I'm not really sure about that aspect though sorry. I was half drunk and stoned when I did the tutorial on dueling so I don't really remember. :lol

Also the 20 dollars will show up a few days after you get the game.

Is it just me or does Bonnie sound like she wants to ride Marston? I'm not too far in the game, just got the lasso from her.

I don't like shooting horses, at least not on purpose. However DAMN when some schmuck rides by and you clip his horse and he just collapses.. that is some seriously satisfying shit. I finally got to rank 15 so I can move on to real DM now.

In my first evening with RDR, I've jumped my horse off a high bridge into a creek, fallen (while on my horse) off the side of a railroad trestle, tumbled head-over-heels down the side of a mountain, been put in first-person perspective, witnessed invisible riders on visible horses and visible riders on invisible horses.

This is going to be some ride.

So ehm, reading about all these supposedly awesome random encounters/situations made me wonder: does anyone know how many there are? And does the same situation happen more than once? I mean
I read about this person who encountered a lovecouple in the forest out at night, then the guy shot his girl in the head, and then he shot himself.
Things like that sounds awesome, but if they would happen more than once, I think it would ruin the immersion for me...

So can I make money playing blackjack? I put $20 in to get in and quit with more chips than I started out with, but don't think I made any money.
