Red Dead Redemption |OT| Whistling Morricone in the desert

I've played this game so much, and have still yet to see this one. I really want to find it and try to
shoot the gun out of the dude's hand before he can turn it on himself, take the ammo, and then ride off laughing. No escape for you!
I punched him and he didn't finish killing himself. Gun fell out of his hand and he ran away

How about a R* capcom venture of two of my favorite series this gen:

Red Dead Rising

Jack Marston: Paw, no!

John Marston: I always knew you loved them books, son... Guess you shouldn't have read from the BOOK OF THE DEAD!

Jack Marston: Paw, don't make me-

John Marston: bbbrraaaaiinnnnsssssss.....

Jack Marston: This is my BOOMSTICK, YA DAMN NAG!

Seth: I am so hard right now.

To those that have beaten the game, I have a message for you that you should find relevant:

Work, ya damn nag!

I bet that William Elliot Whitmore guy is pissed that his vocal track got like 20 seconds of playtime compared to the whole song for all the other artists, ha! Though I suppose he should be happy that half the players won't miss his track just from getting off their horse. :lol

And I'd still like to see them patch in separate aiming options for on-foot and on-horse combat. I by far prefer expert on foot, but combat on horseback is such a pain that I'd much prefer to have some auto-aim rather than using Deadeye constantly.

So after all the great help I got with hunter challenge 8, somehow hunter challenge ten is glitched for me so that when I
killed lobo the wolf I never got credit
worst part is the only save I have before doing so is like 5 hrs before it. I think this might end my champagne for 100%.

You might not think you got credit, but try to finish the challenge. I think the same thing happened to me when I
killed one of the legendary animals, forget which one
and I didn't see any indication of doing so on screen... but just keep going.
Just remember to skin each of the animals.

Spoilers: (reveal one at a time)
Great ending and a great way to let you continue and 100% the thing. If you really really want to play with John, read on:

YOU CAN'T, HE'S DEAD.

It's in line with one of the game's major themes: life isn't fair. :p
A perfect ending, yet
so goddamn sad

I'm watching the credits roll right now after
killing Edgar Ross.

Fits the genre and theme perfectly,
and it still sucks - but in a melancholy way.

Why am I seeing every friggin R* employee in the credits? Did everyone work on this game?

The last freeze frame shot of Jack and the title popping up on screen was perfect.

Seriously, they even ran out of background music to play. :lol

But
you can just go back to a previous save and keep playing the game whilst your family chills at Beecher's Hope...I think...

I love how Rockstar San Diego's very own site doesn't even acknowledge the game's existence. Everyone's too happy to be done with this mammoth project to update the site. :lol

*nods*

The credits music fit perfectly.
Sad, in a powerful way. You can't fault the game for ending like this, it's just proper.

I thought it was incredibly fitting considering I killed Ross with the Colt pistol, which is the pistol Ross gave to John earlier in the game. :lol

Just finished all of the story. Gutted that I had the ending spoilt for me before hand but i still thought it was amazing.

sucks that John dies :( so glad to have gone after Ross at the end

Really enjoyed everything from start to finish. Have only got a few loose ends to tie up for the 100%.

Just played all those gang hideout instances things. For any 360 owner wondering, the PS3 exclusive one is probably the weakest of the bunch. Still fun though.

I will try, but
I noticed 0/3 credit/progress and journal still says kill the wolf even though I have all his parts. 8(

So when does this amazing song (Far Away) that everyone is talking about play??!?? People are saying it's when you first go to Mexico, well...I've been in Mexico for quite a while and it's never come on.

I've done all of Louisa's missions, and I just finished the train escort mission for De Santa
and I've never heard it. I'm getting bummed!

It's literally when you first get on the horse after you get off the raft. If you get off the horse again it'll stop though.

Didn't play then. I got on a horse after the raft and rode to Escalera and it never played. Just that ambient twangy music that is always going on while you ride about.

Too bad, was maybe my favorite moment in the game.

It's definitely glitched. I decided to replay the whole raft sequence again and it was worth it (like you, I never got the music the first time). The music was awesome.

Has anybody else here shot spectators in a duel? Paint your opponent until your bar is full, then start painting other people in the background. It's funny watching Marston put a bunch of bullets into his opponent, and then just dropping other people.

omg that's awesome, I need to go cheat at poker and try it.

The best part is that any spectators you don't shoot don't seem to give a shit. I did it in Thieve's Landing, and there were two spectators right next to each other. I killed my opponent, and then put a bunch of bullets into one of the spectators, and the other one just stood there for a second, then carried on with his business.

Ending spoiler post:

That was a very satisfying ending. While on the ranch with his family I knew something bad was going to happen. They wanted me to get familiar with the family and I thought they were going to kill them all as I was off doing some solo mission for one of them.

The ending was perfect, I usually take a break after 2 missions but seeing that the boy took over I wanted to see if he could accept missions, and the first thing I saw was that stranger quest. When I found out it was a revenge thing I was pumped to kill that punk! So awesome.

Finished up all the Mexico story missions. I have to echo what I've read here - the story missions become a real chore in this section. I didn't mind so much the "errand boy" setup as much as I was annoyed by
how obvious it was that Marston was getting played.

I also don't feel like I ever got the lay of the land in Mexico. Even now, after finishing the story missions, I need to constantly check my map or just set a way point to get where I want. In New Austin I felt like the game did a much better job of taking you to each area and letting you roam back instead of constantly just running for city to city. Looking at my map there is either a lot I missed or not nearly as many actual locations too.

Still it picks up once you get
Reyes
as a contact and finishes VERY strong. Very tempted to push on to Blackwater but I have most the ambient and stranger missions left to do in Mexico. Going to finish those off tonight then plunge into the end game.

Still enjoying the hell out of this game but wanted to add my two cents to the Mexico debate.

bah, 95% done almost there lol, one thing that bugs me is how even when i give my hungarian half/ kentucky sadler horse pills, i still get outrunned by outlaws while taking back a bounty to the jail, seems a little weird to have that happen, at least to me

Is it possible to not have dead eye automatically mark spots on enemies? I'm only at level 2 right now, so everytime I go into it and try to shoot someone, it marks stuff and then my shots go crazy.

Is it possible to just do regular level 1 or cancel a mark?

You can't cancel marks right now.

Not sure if I should spoiler this, so I will, but it's not story related.
Eventually you'll get level 3, it's the best one, you get to manually place your marks.

I'm logged in right now. Seems to be up and running.

Btw, could anyone offer any advice? :(

The one where you need to score 10 assists in a single gang hideout is pissing me off.

An assist is when you see a score of $2 pop up on your screen, right? This is, of course when you shoot an enemy at least once and a teammate finishes him off. So why the fuck do I see 10-15 $2 scores keep popping up, yet it only rewards me with like 2-3 assists by the end of the gang hideout.

ARGH!

Best I can tell you is to play with only one other person on a large/long lasting gang hideout like Pike's Basin, coordinating your fire if possible. Use the Cattleman Revolver to wound enemies in the legs so that your partner knows who to shoot.

Quick question;

  • I can't play online with my 360
  • But I've heard the ps3 version has slightly worse graphics (I wasn't able to see this myself though)

Is online fun enough to get the game on ps3?

I found the easiest place to do the Most Wanted trophy/achievement was at El Presidio in Mexico. Obviously it's best to do this while other players are up in New Austin. Inside the base there's some TNT in the back of a few wagons. Shoot one and that'll give you a bounty (or just toss some TNT if you have it). Man the mounted gun right beside the main gate and gun down the Mexican army until you have your required bounty. If another player uses the fast travel to get to you before you can make your escape from the base, they'll end up right in front of your mounted gun, so take them out then try to escape from the back/side door. and just ride around Mexico non-stop.

Luckily when I did it, they left me alone for a while, so I tried to hide in the nunnery until the Mexican army found me and I had to shoot my way out of there. The other players didn't come after me until later and by then I was already riding around free as a bird.

wow...that was fucked. I found myself in an empty free roam session and thought I'd give El Presidio a shot...got to Public Enemy status, hell, I waited around for 15 minutes just to be safe and bolted for Canada..fuckin' trophy didn't pop...does the Wanted meter have to be red the whole time??

I notice I'm still alone, so I figure I'd give the barn at MacFarlane's ranch another shot...public enemy, and about 4 minutes in, fucking game freezes. fuck this.
