If this is true, THANK GOD. I was so pissed off when I found out an MP40 was better to use for medium range fighting. So ridiculous how accurate it is in burst shots. I literally killed 20 people and ran out of ammo thanks to how amazing the MP40 is, but I like playing with rifles :(

Do tell, what is shift zoom steady? I've got all the keys rebinded, so I don't know what shift does originally.

I think he means when you hold your breath. It zooms in a bit more and you're more steady.

OMG It zooms even more than the regular ironsight view? Good god, I've been missing out on so much. No wonder people were mentioning that everyone seems to have ocular implants for zooming. LOL!
 
I'm liking CD_FallenFighters a lot more now, it's definitely clicked for me. Playing with an LMG on that is actually pretty fun.

Bring on them new maps though.

Ya, I think it's really easy to decide that you'll just camp and "snipe" as a rifleman in that map, but there are definitely alleys of safety you can exploit to get closer to enemy rifle lines.
 
It better be soon, because there's no way I'm playing Apartments or Fallenfighters a single more time until after the game releases.
 
So a quick update regarding my performance "issues" - I disabled CrossFireX and went with a single 6970 (950/1450 OC) with these settings: http://i53.tinypic.com/6ql752.png. My performance was ~40 FPS. That is compared to ~45 FPS with CFX enabled. :) I think it's obvious there are some issues on the AMD side...but most of it is CrossFireX. Just throwing this info out there for anyone wondering. I'll shut up about it at this point. :)

Also - thanks for the info RE: FXAA/MLAA TheExodu5 and Sethos. I'll definitely play with both and see what works best for me.

I actually like it a lot too, but my least favorite thing in the world is playing the same map or two over and over again. Drives me insane, I don't understand people who can play on 24/7 servers.

Are you sure? Have you seen what is due out next month? It wouldn't be able to compete.

I've already got friends holding off because they are spending too much money as it is and with the BF3 beta round the corner they feel they can hold off buying till the inevitable Christmas steam sale.

Pushing out a buggy/broken game just to be the first ones out wouldn't help them in any way.
 
Patch is uploaded to Valve. Now we just have to wait for someone at Valve to push the button so the rest of us can get it.

Wow, I was out of town all day so I was sure that the update would've went live by now. They need to keep their mouths shut until they're sure it's the final build and that it's on its way to Valve, lol.

FXAA has a bigger performance impact on my machine (5850 + X965). It also looks horribly blurry while still retaining aliasing on stuff like cables. MLAA does too but not to the extent of FXAA in this game. Will disable once we get the option.
 
Which class are you guys playing the most? I am going Squad Leader when possible because of the awesome Walther G41 (I usually play Axis) and the smoke nades. Being SL also stimulates me to not take any big chances which in turn keeps me alive a lot longer.

I usually play elite rifleman for versatility (if I can grab a spot or get a commendation) or assault.
 
This is my first experience with Red Orchestra and I was hoping it played a bit more like Day of Defeat with a little less iron site action. Anyway, still having a blast with the beta and I am excited for things to come.

I've been playing mostly rifle or assault. Assault seems a bit broken. It seems to be nearly just as accurate as the rifle at medium to long distances when fired properly.

Is there bullet drop in the beta? I remember hearing something about bullet drop in one of the developer vids, but I'm having some trouble figuring it out in-game.

MLAA looks like it isn't even active, jaggies all over the place. Probably that's why performance is better, because it doesn't work. Just tried it briefly and every edge was as rough as sandpaper.

Anyway, sounds like the new update might be not hit us until Tuesday. Steam folk aren't working weekends unless it's an emergency situation and it's apparently a holiday tomorrow in the US, so no support there either.

There is bullet drop, but you will not notice it in short range firefights. On Fallen Fighters however you will notice it once you try to shoot over the central areas. You can also adjust your iron sights using the wheel.

On Apartments the SMGs will be very versatile but you give away your position quite easily. On static firefights I can use the rifle to better effect.
 
No point in taking pics, know what it looks like and in my opinion, it looks dreadful - I won't be using it. Luckily there's a choice :)

Mouse scroll is the default for range adjusting on all weapons.

I love sniping and getting the adjustment just right in the fallen fighters map.
 
The range on the kill notifier is super useful for rangefinding. I was clueless of how to guesstimate distance in RO1, but thankfully RO2's made it easier.

I dont really use it to often, though.

Oh damn. I've been sniping all this time without it. No wonder stuff wasn't working quite right. I swear they need a tutorial to let people know about these features. I didn't know there was a shift zoom until this thread. That alone helped me out a lot yesterday. Add in sight adjustment and damn!

Yes, but I think beyond 150M the range adjustment is probably quite useful.

That's why I can't wait for the working realism mode, no such thing as kill notifiers or range, at least I'm pretty sure that's the case.

When it comes to complex games like this you should take a peek at key bindings before going in ;) .

I prefer a hybrid mode. I like the notifier for kills you've made. I would hate to have to keep track of and peek at my scoreboard to see if the latest shot was a kill. I think that's way worse.

It has been a while since I played anything complex. I haven't had to look at keybindings for years cause they're so standard.

It already works, just server options. I played on a server with no kill notifiers at all etc. Was glorious, very tense.

Well there will be the single player mode and I guess that will introduce all these things to players.
 
Just tried to drive a tank... WTF? Is there a way to change the view? All I get to look out of is small rectangular areas. Cant see shit.

Welcome to driving a tank. On certain positions you can open the hatches, such as the driver. Use your mouse wheel. Be advised though, once they are some enemies around you will want to close the hatches :).

I believe the mousewheel lets you lean forward or open the hatch.

I've taken screenshots. I will post them here for others to judge.

You can clearly see MLAA as superior in these shots, because it does not blur, and the anti-aliasing is actually much higher quality (look at the cables in the right in the distance).

I will say that in motion, they both look pretty bad, though. There's a ton of shimmering in motion that is more obvious with this form of anti-aliasing as opposed to true anti-aliasing.
 
I've just discovered a potential nuisance with the game; realism servers. Apparently, with a game like this everyone wants to maximize the realism' aspect so every single server I join these days has this shit enabled, even when I've disabled them in the filter! The missing nametags above the head makes it teamkilling bonanza and it's frustrating as hell. 80% of my deaths in this mode are from friendly fire.

It's not problematic for people with a bit of common sense but for the blind nitwits, it's just a friendly fire shooting gallery. So many people are super jumpy and their combat logic is horrendous.

I find that if you're playing TE or CD, you can usually tell who is who just by their position on the map. Things turn to shit quickly in FF, though.

I think the realism filter settings aren't working in the current incarnation of the game, as they've seemed to point that out in the changelog for the next patch

As long as you begin to learn the difference between German soldier and a Russian by their uniforms, it becomes less of a problem.

I've been playing this game for a couple hours now, and REALLY love it. It's nice to play something that isn't run-n-gun. Dont get me wrong, I love Call of Duty, but to play something this complex, IE bullet drop, bleedouts, etc. So awesome.

My only complaint is how they're working snipers. I understand the limit of snipers, but more often than not, the person that picks the sniper, is a complete idiot, and cant use it for shit.
 
love the game. it manages to create a lot of tension. the cover system is pretty nice if its working. sometimes it can be a little jaggy though. i suppose theyll fix that over time.
