Red Orchestra 2 Beta is Now Available on Steam

Playing Grain Elevator blows my mind. A full courtyard for running rifle battles. Then a factory complete with many floors to fight in.

Then again, your opinion, i dont have to like it and i can understand your frustration, i just dont feel like its right to criticize the game in such an objective way.

"game has a ton of issues on my PC right now and id rather get a refund to buy something else and get RO2 later after some patches" <- easy as that

Pretty much what I was saying in a frustrated manner. :p

To all of the people cancelling pre-orders: Good things come to those who wait. If I see a game has potential, I will give the devs the benefit of the doubt and let them work things out. EVEN IF THIS WASN'T A BETA, which it is.

I could identify with your point of view better if the game was actually out, but it isn't. Honestly I think when things are all ironed out this will be a fantastic online experience, and it makes me sad some of you won't be there to fight along side me because you applied all of these "customer expectations" to the situation.

I've been burnt in the past by doing this, ala Empire Total War. That's why I'm not taking anymore chances. When they fix their problems I will get it at that price, or maybe I'll wait until it is under $10 to even look at it again, I'm in no rush. Maybe it will, maybe it wont, but with the pre-order cancel I can now spend my money on games that I will definitely have fun and most likely will run x10 better than Red Orchestra 2 is at the moment, Dead Island to be more specific.

I adore the game, but I am full of seething rage now that I know about Punkbuster, can someone please calm me down and maybe give me a massage?
lol

Just in case you haven't been over there yet. TWI are aware of some gremlins in the system, but they're having trouble locking them down, hence the beta and request for feedback from users.

You guys should check your server browser filters. I know mine were changed with the update and I couldn't see a lot of the servers because of it.

Wow, what the fuck?

I was getting absolutely shitty performance with my 6950 (unlocked)..around 20-30 fps

So i went back to my 5850 and am getting a solid 50-60 fps.

huh?

Before the update I was able to join games but post update I can't. I see the games in the server and attempt joining it but enter a continual loading loop. I have restarted the game a few times and same thing, just continually loading the server.

yep its a bug they're getting to

just use this site for now, in the game open the console and type 'open 0.0.0.0'

Got into a game, shot a guy, crashed. Everything felt really janky (running animation, snapping to walls). Yeah Im glad I traded for this than actually spent money on it. There is no way this game will be anywhere near good working order by September 13. Maybe by Christmas it will be a quality product.

It took me minutes to even find a server, where it was janky as hell, and I got stuck on a ladder, and I was thoroughly lost, and I was shot from all over the damn map, and I even got popped in the nuts by a Cpl. Mangina or something ... but Grain Elevator was one of the absolute greatest multiplayer experiences I've ever had. What a fucking map.

Also I got a two for one on a pair of snipers near the roof with my beloved kar. Protect ya neck, yo.

Was anyone else getting huge fps drops on the new barracks map? That map was basically unplayable after about 5minutes of gameplay.

I am having so much fun with this. Running around red october factory with my AT rifle, constantly relocating from defilade to defilade, struggling to visually confirm enemies before taking the shot, catching a squad of russians flanking the factory off guard and blowing them apart then diving into a trench as the survivors return fire... hiding in a crater with other soldiers as bullets and tank rounds explode overhead...this is the game I've been waiting so long for. Getting a headshot with a kar98k at 200 yards is one of the simple joys of gaming.

I haven't even tried grain elevator yet. :o

That sounds......rather interesting. Makes me want to pick this up but not sure my PC could handle it on high settings.

Is anyone having better performance than before? I guess it's hard to tell with the maps being changed so I'll ask this instead: Is the performance on these new maps on par or better than FF for example? Apartments was fine while FF sometimes ran good but it's very inconsistent.

I'm going to jump on the maps tonight after some shows so add me if anyone wants or I'll add some people so I can find your servers since join game through Steam supposedly isn't working AGAIN! lol

Steam is: demolitio2

Btw, I'm still looking for help on the OP if anyone wants to contribute. We could get it up faster if we had people do different sections and then we put it together at the end since I didn't get a chance to start the OP a while ago. I was only doing it since no one else said they were and I made sure to ask quite a few times. I'm working on some graphics again tonight for it. It doesn't have to be the best OP ever, but I'd love to convince some new people to try the series out and see since it's sort of a niche game that's pretty good but doesn't have a real big name recognition outside the hardcore PC guys.

That happened for me when the map first loaded but it was fine after about 30 seconds.

Grain Elevator is without a doubt the greatest multiplayer map I have ever played on any game, ever.

It's amazing.

it's weird i can't access it. steam asks to verify age and it doesn't do anything I can't get passed verification age page.

Any tips on not sucking at this game? I'm god awful.

I've chalked up most of my "sucking" to lag and performance issues. Eh, as much as I want to write off RO2. I'm going to wait till after its official release. It isn't clicking with me. BUT one suggestion... press 'M', check out the map. Plan your movements. Take your time. That's all I got.

I'm not in the beta and I'm interested in knowing what's great about Grain Elevator ?
See that light blue building in the screenshot a few posts above? It's massive and each floor is a cap zone, the whole building interior is modeled from the basement to the roof, it's intense and wonderful and there's also a large environment and other buildings around it.

I really like the look of war tapes but I think I will select the other filter. I'm playing on a laptop so medium-ish settings and sometimes it's hard to tell what is going at a distance with the film grain.

I still haven't got used to the flow of the maps, where the objectives are and where the enemy is coming from, especially when the spawn points move. I usually ended up nading half my team after spawn swaps or the spawn moves up and I think the enemy is there. Luckily no one has complained much! The game is a blast, even more so since its different than what I have been playing.

Can't wait to get the patch when I get home from work.

Wow ! Amazing, must be intense. Thanks for the explanation.

Can't wait to play, I got this pre-ordered.

So after this new patch, the server browser is gone and when looking for an instant match, the game hard locks. This really feels like an early beta. How close is this to being released?

I got it for a good price(27$), but I'm really thinking of dumbing it after all these impressions. Game sounds good... but the technical issues are plaguing.

How is the game engine and shooting itself compare to other modern FPS engines?

I don't have any trouble with the engine, it runs just fine for me, even in the 50 people matches. The shooting is some of the best I've seen in an fps in some time. Tremendous hit detection, weapons feel great, iron sites are great and don't take up too much real estate. The cover system takes a bit to get used to, but otherwise it's very good.

Speaking of which, WHY did they not make the bandage button map-able? Having it share the same command as 'take cover' is pretty terrible. I can't tell you how many times I bled out near cover because I got clipped and every time I would hit the bandage button my guy humps the wall over and over until he's dead. Infuriating.
