Typical a cartridge is composed of two different memory banks. A large bank of true ROM and a comparatively tiny bank of rewritable memory. That way the main game data can't be tampered with, for better or worse (it would suck if your cart corrupted and didn't just lose your save data but also the entire game). If Nintendo were to go the same route then realistically the rewritable memory couldn't be larger than maybe 512MB, or else the cartridges would be way too expensive.

Personally though, I think the best option would be to just ditch the save memory altogether. Make the cartridges ROM only and save to external memory (to clarify external to the cartridge, not necessarily the system), as long as you don't pull a Vita, we're golden.

Damn, you're right. Oh well, it was too good of an idea to be realistic anyway.

I'm curious to what the storage solution will be. Hopefully it'll have a user-replaceable HDD.

It's easy, NX will look carefully into your heart and, just by scouting the friendships you care the most for, it will istantaneously add those people to your friend list. Quite an achievement for heart-to-machine tech!

Or it's just strange backpadeling for the bullshit he said earlier. Not sure, though. 50-50 between the two possibilitied, IMHO.

Dat "leaker" knows everything about the unreleased NX but yet don't know what a friend code, discussed for 10 years during the Wii/3DS era, is.
 
While I don't doubt adding friends is still going to be a damn mess (there's a reason Miitomo users are creating throwaway Twitter accounts for friend adding instead of using their Nintendo Account), here's the clincher that tells me this guy is a pathological liar and the story doesn't add up: there are very vague details about the practical aspects of actually using the system (it's AMD, it's got some gimmicks, there's one third party game), yet the "leaker" is perfectly aware of the practical issues when adding friends? That's the sort of thing you only notice when you have to use the system to do more than testing a tech demo, as in, everyday use.

For a pathological liar, the modus operandi is "it used to be like this so I can add another fact to make my story seem more legit", even when -- if you think about it -- it's the sort of data that shouldn't be available for an insider yet.

It actually fits perfectly with what I heard and that's social media integration, where you can add people from those (outside) lists.

So you'd first have to add people on social media, before you can add them on the NX.

I have no source for this, I heard Ian talking about it on CUPodcast.

It rolls off the tongue only barely more than Wii U. From what I understand, NES wasn't the mainstream nomenclature for that system until SNES came out.

It feels like this topic should be closed at this point. Why are any of you even giving these Reddit posts anytime of your day? It's as fake as can be. I might as well go on Reddit and post random vague stuff and I'll get the internet talking about it. How would you even mess up "friend codes"? Then there's an update which makes no sense.

I'm still hoping for a Ultra NES or a Hyper NES, myself. I'd buy it just for this text on the box.

Anecdotal, but everyone I know pronounces those systems as "ness" and "sness" (As in, the character or the loch) or "Super Nintendo". The pronunciation of each letter individually seems to be an American thing.

I read "NEX" as "necks".

I asked this yesterday and am not sure if I got any replies to it, but my understanding (and I know at this point this is just a hypothetical question since the leaker was deemed unverified) is that Nintendo has not ever used a UE or non-proprietary engine for their games. Is that correct?

This is correct.

However, nothing stops Nintendo from trying to use these engines. Even if they have their own, they will certainly try to fool around with it for a bit. We should just not expect a game from that.

It doesn't make sense for Nintendo since they have an abundant amount of staff dedicated to SDK, library and environment tools. Only way I could see it happening is if they signed a first party project that began development externally.

There is no reason to believe anything coming from reddit. Even the Verification is dubious

Honestly Im not sure we can trust any info that doesnt involve a leaker completely outing who he is and who he works for
 
Seeing as the REDDIT rumors are likely BS, maybe it's better to make a new topic with the LCGeek "leak" concerning the NX>>>>>XBO>>PS4 CPU, added with Thraktor's CPU "guide" for NX.

I think that kind of information is a lot more helpful.

PS: to those discussing the Nintendo game using UE... i think the original Metroid Prime had some UE2 code somewhere, but it was not really used in game. I remember people thinking it was running on a highly modded UE2, but later that was debunked i believe.
