Version 5.8.1 for the SDK of a new system? Riiiiiight.
The dude now posted some "documents" for proof.
I can't believe I'm saying this, but I would be shocked if that happened. My guess is they finally realized with Wii U that a system needs to be better than what they were putting out.
Did we get some new info what is this CPU better than PS4 and 12GB of ram coming from?
Something to keep in mind the Dev kits have double the ram is really not a guaranteed thing anymore. If 12GB in the devkit were to be true it would pretty much guarantee 8GB though then the question becomes how effective Nintendo are with their OS to see how the final 8GB gets split.
Depends on how robust their OS features are. I can't imagine it being too big if they don't incorporate any DVR/sharing features beyond screenshotting/miiverse/friends/browser. Wii U's OS as it is only takes up what? 1GB?
Well, Metroid Other M showed they had zero idea what to do with the franchise, so I guess this would make sense.
Yup. 1GB. If they want to match the functionality of PS4's OS, they'll need about 3GB for the OS. This guy said 9GB would be useable for games while the PS4 has 5.5GB useable for games.Depends on how robust their OS features are. I'm of the same opinion. Just can't see it being weaker at this stage.
Yeah, I feel the same. Especially all the things we've been seeing like Nintendo joining Khronos Group which should point to looking to come into the industry standard now and not go with another low powered system and something very exotic. They're even part of the Vulkan working group alongside other big developers and hardware manufacturers.
I feel they're going back to their roots with good systems that are within parity of the other systems.
I am not disagreeing with that. Compared to the other systems, though, the difference with the NX appears to be similar to adding (for example) two more cores. The huge gap is with reference to the consoles and desktop grade CPUs. He's saying that the gap between the PS4/NX in CPU processing power is noticeable but the gap between desktop grade CPUs and the consoles is huge- to the point where the difference between NX/PS4 is negligible compared to PC/Console.

Honestly, was there anyone that thought that the NX's CPU would be significantly stronger than the PS4/X1? I believe being that the range of 20% stronger is the upper limit to what people were expecting.
Here let me make things right and restore the balance:This isn't the cynical gaf I know and love.
LCGeek what have you done
I think most were expecting weaker.
Here let me make things right and restore the balance:
"Fucken lol, Nintendo is never gonna make a PS4 level console, that market is already gone with Xbox and PS4. They gotta release a new console for $199 and be that secondary console because I like their games but don't want to pay $300 for their consoles and can't imagine a scenario where Nintendo puts power into their consoles when they haven't done that ever (let's pretend every console before the Wii never existed). Ya'll are crazy. It's gonna be at best a weaker Xbox One and get wrecked by the PS4K and Xbox 1.5. Nintendo is too late again lol. "

8.8/10? Did you just Gamespot Twilight Princess my post? Fuck you!I was thinking Xbone level.
In the end I probably won't even be able to tell the difference between slightly sub Xbone level and slightly above PS4 level graphics except when looking at DigitalFoundry videos
8.8/10.
Just curious, why do we need an uber complicated OS and interfaces?
I mean, do we need anything more than what was done on GameCube? And that needed what, a tiny amount of RAM usage? Is it because you need more for actions which require the game and OS to be active at the same time like media sharing and whatnot? Is that so important that you need 3GB of RAM to put towards? Why not just have 8GB total with just 1GB for the OS when a game is active if that?
I just not seeing the huge necessity of anything fancy when the GC's OS seemed perfectly fine and got the job done with how its options worked and I don't think you'd need multiple GBs to access the eShop.
I'm likely very wrong and would really appreciate being educated on this.![]()
LCGeek, who has leaked many CPUs of Nintendo's hardware and been right. They only stated that the performance is much better than Xbox One and PS4's CPUs and that the difference is very noticeable. We don't know what kind of CPU or its architecture though. However, Thraktor, earlier in the thread did a really good right up of CPU's and narrowed it down to two based on power, efficiency, heat, die size and and other factors based on distributors who deal with consoles. The 2 likeliest candidates are either the Puma (x86) or the Cortex-A72 (ARM).
12GB comes from one of the reddit people and I've yet to even trust those sources.
Suspend and resume, party chat, friends list, constantly connecting to Nintendo's servers, running invisible processes in the background, caching, indexing, achievement syncing, etc, system music and sounds. It all adds up.Just curious, why do we need an uber complicated OS and interfaces?

After talking with Fourth Storm and Blu, we did conclude that it wouldn't be difficult for Nintendo to match or exceed the other systems' CPU if they used octocore A57s or A72s @1.6+GHz respectively. I'm unsure if any of us actually expected it, though.I think most were expecting weaker.

You cannot be serious, which current gen consoles do you own? Nintendo needs to match PS4 and X1 in use of OS.. primarily speed and operating between applications. Let me not even talk about streaming...Just curious, why do we need an uber complicated OS and interfaces?

Hopefully people don't extrapolate that the rest of the hardware will be similarly powered. There's no guarantees that they surpass the PS4.

http://m.neogaf.com/showpost.php?p=200144552Any chance I could get a link to the specific post of the CPU leak? I was able to find the 12GB one fairly easy as someone quoted it on this page.
Eh, Nintendo and most console makers usually make the GPU beefier then the CPU. If the CPU is about 15% better than the XB1 then you can be sure Nintendo will exceed the PS4 GPU.Hopefully people don't extrapolate that the rest of the hardware will be similarly powered. There's no guarantees that they surpass the PS4.

I agree with that too. It is my impression that Nintendo would have to be a bit aggressive to match or surpass the GPU in the PS4 without it becoming an issue with pricing.Hopefully people don't extrapolate that the rest of the hardware will be similarly powered. I don't think I can remember a console where the CPU was a beast but the GPU was shit. It's usually the other way around. Especially now with GPGPU's.
Look at my post on the last page. It's there.
Make no mistake, I know why folks want all that stuff, I'm just speaking more for myself in just preferring the simplicity of back then I guess. No worries.![]()

The ability to suspend a game and run a web browser requires a lot of RAM to be set aside. Web Browsers are RAM-hungry.
please give me the source for that Gif

Nope. First off is the assumption that the PS4K is faster in the first place, second of which is the assumption that Nintendo is a generation behind. The latter of which is false.Wait so nx is slightly more powerful than ps4 while a much more powerful ps4+ is about to drop? Is it too early to claim this or has Nintendo underspeced again?

It's taken from the 1984 adaptation of Sherlock Holmes, produced by Grandma Television, entitled 'The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes'.

I've thought about that too. I wouldn't be surprised to see a new Xbox One iteration appear at E3 either. So we possibly have Nintendo once again coming out with a system
weaker then the new iterations and once again third parties saying "it's too weak, we're
aiming for PS4K/XBox 2.0 only".
It's gonna be a problem for Nintendo again.
