You might not be interested in them, but how are games like Forza, Drive Club & Killzone Shadowfall not in the (possibly) "great" category? I mean, all of those are from critically more or less acclaimed franchises/developers, Forza pretty much being (one of) the most acclaimed sim racers of today.
Plus unlike Wii U, PS4 & Xbone are actually going to get the best (console) versions of 3rd party games this fall, not gimped shit like Mass Effect 3, so there might be reason for some people to upgrade.
Good way to get free press.
I would hope that after 25+ years of re-using the same formula and mechanics that Nintendo's platformers would be good, that doesn't make me want to play them rehashed to infinity. I'd take a mechanically less competent title, yet innovative, different, and with superb production values like LBP over any of the derivative and stale 2D platforms Nintendo has been quick to churn out. I've probably had more fun with co-op LBP than I have with any Nintendo 2D platformer since the SNES days.
I also wouldn't classify Skyward Sword or Pikmin as "AAA". The former is a shell of a series that was once looked upon in reverence by core gamers alike, only to be watered down with the most absurd amount of ridiculous hand holding and terrible production values in comparison to true "AAA" content we get today. Zelda used to set the bar, and now it looks just sad in comparison to what other studios are doing. Pikmin is a quirky niche title that seems like a fairly safe sequel to a series that was never all that big to begin with.
And as for Other M? If that's "big budget", it just shows you how far Nintendo has dropped off in terms of quality control (I realize it was a joint project). This title should have never been green lit and is an embarrassment for the series.
So what you're left is Mario Galaxy 2. Yeah, it released 3 years ago. One truly AAA title in three years, and I'm supposed to be satisfied with that output?
It's why I haven't picked up a Wii U and probably won't for years. Nintendo simply does not stack up anymore.
I guess there ARE people that like all of the safe and cheap titles Nintendo churns out that hardly deviate from a given formula or presentation, but there are also a lot of previous Nintendo die-hards that haven't felt the same level of quality and magic that used to set standards for the industry. If Nintendo had more Mario Galaxy 2 type productions, at least the Wii U would probably be doing GameCube numbers or better. Now you're left with a company that hardly has a core fanbase anymore and the casuals have all moved on.
Those are three big franchises. You laughing them off is basically laughing off an entire market of gamers that literally will buy a console for the latest versions of these games and by their mere existence builds online communities in ways and with volume that very few games have managed to do on consoles.
Nintendo missing out on the key sports franchises is very much a big deal.
So basically truth be told the wiiU will be missing out on 4 of the top franchises releasing on consoles this holiday season.
Downplay it all you like but not having sports titles is nothing to scoff at.
Well, I can't say I disagree with the Regginator.
I feel the same way Reggie.
Brave words for a guy whose company made Wii U![]()
For my taste, he's not wrong.
Even so, Nintendo have yet to convince me to make the purchase of a Wii U, and that's his problem.
This is why I love Reggie. He really knows how to piss the fanboys off by throwing out little comments that just blow up inside peoples heads. He's only being honest, name dropping Battlefield really doesn't make anyone's launch line-up look any better.
Btw, Reggie, your launch lineup didn't have Pikmin 3, Zelda, 3D Mario, Donkey Kong and Wonderful 101, that's your holiday lineup. One year later... Strong one, I have to admit, but still, not launch.
If their launch line ups are meh, then what the hell is Nintendo's launch line up? Utter dogshit?
The world is saying "meh" to the Wii-U.
He talks a big game, but he couldn't be farther from the truth. The Wii U launch was lineup was awful, and the Wii U sales prove it. He mentions games that weren't even released on launch, what a boob.
Can i get wonderful 101 on wii and 3DS?
You're probably the first person making that joke on this thread.
Wow at the amount of people that are going to lose sleep over this.
Everyone's bound to slip some dumb shit every now and then when you consider how many interviews they do and how the journos will try to squeeze these kind of responses from them for dem clicks.
And yeah if you take "meh" as an insult, the problem is probably on your end ;b
Never said they were. You remember when jack tretton said that DS is for kids when PsP got stomped hard by DS? Yeah its Like Nintendo is the only company that does that.
Uh, none?
Contrary to popular Nintendo fans belief, the gaming community doesn't revolve around Nintendo.
I feel meh about pretty much everything going on in the industry right now. :c
Are you playing them?
Yeah, it sucks that the Wii U does not have these games for the people who would like to play them, the real missed opportunity is that Nintendo should have something that replaced Madden, FIFA, etc. for this year, not that they lost those games specifically.
Unless your one of the ones who let Nintendo rule their lives with the obligatory "I want another 30 years of the same ol' plumber"Uh, none?

"We’ve got Zelda. We’ve got Mario. We’ve got Donkey Kong."
Go back 20 years and you'll hear the same thing.
My point is that there are much better ways to portray this message than to just say "Meh". Talk about what's good about your offering, that makes you look good. I expect "Meh" from a youtube comment, not a person on his position. You're twisting his words. Reggie is talking personally, "I'm allowed to say Meh.", whereas the way you say it makes it sound as if no sane person would be interested in it.
All Reggie says is basically "I think the Wii U has a better lineup of games this holiday than the competition." And that's entirely fair. It's honestly the Wii U's only selling point and he SHOULD say this. He didn't straight-up bash the competition, not at all. He's not speaking out of line here.

That third party support though, eh Reggie? Unprecedented!

At work, this made lolReggie is going to get his ass pounded by the PS4.

Why does he ALWAYS say "We have Zelda, we have Mario, we have Donkey Kong"?! I've heard him say it like 10 times since Wii launch now and it's pissing me off. I love Reggie, but come on!
The Wonderful 101 is awful, and the sales of it prove it.
Britney Spears is amazing though.
How was the Wii U's launch titles (never really followed the Wii U)?
For me anyway, console gaming has been in the pits since the early days of 360 and ps3. PS2 is when it peaked for me and many others. Mostly because with MS spearheading DLC and dudebro experiences (along with others who followed), the physical retail games market has taken a huge hit, especially with mid tier developers having dried up.
Nintendo and dedicated portables are the last bastion of what real gaming used to be, and even nintendo is struggling to keep that up now. Digital distribution is one of the worst things to happen to gaming, as now we have no ownership of content. You are just left with indie rentals (that's what DLC is), or the bland grey brown monotony of western "AAA" gaming.
Why do I bring this up? Because a lot of the "innovation", if we can even call it that, has most definitely come from indies as of late. So now after this sad excuse for a generation, we either have huge budget "AAA" games, a term I can't stand, right alongside other gems like "core gamer", or we have "indie" games which sadly are almost always purely digital. There is no middle anymore (which is where we often saw some of the coolest stuff during the ps2 and previous generations).
The Wii U for me is what is left of the middle ground, along with some of the occasional higher quality "AAA" stuff that they produce. The Wii U was the wrong path for them to take, but I get why they did. A shame what has happened to gaming, truly. The abysmal failure of this console is a sad reflection not only of nintendo, but I would argue, gamers tastes having changed for the worse, especially in the west.
Eh, its EA, and their relationship with Nintendo can be summed up in one word, "sucks".
And now that I think about it, who cares about Sports titles that are released late? Does any late port of a sports game sell well in that year?
Is anyone getting Madden or NBA2K14 for the Xbox One, or PS4?
