Remote Play Thread: Play PS4 games on Vita/VitaTV via WiFi at home or away

Once it turns on, can you then connect?

Have you tried restoring the system software from scratch? That would be my suggestion.

If I'm home, I can connect and use Remote Play if my PS4 is already on. I can use Second Screen to turn it on from Standby. I simply can't use Remote Play to start it from Standby. (And anything over Wifi seems to be totally out, but that seems to be a not wholly uncommon problem without some finagling, so I'm less concerned about that.)

I've considered doing a software wipe on both systems; I'm just hoping to avoid that if at all possible unless it appears to be the only option. If this problem is unique to me, it may well be the only option.

BRocknRolla, I experience the same thing as you in scenario #1. I think there is a bug in either the vita software or the ps4 where it won't "wake on lan" going through the direct connect AP. I noticed that the vita will connect to my home wifi for the second screen (and is able to wake up the ps4 from standby), but remote play will only try to wake up the ps4 when it detects the ps4's AP.

As for your second scenario (except I don't disable direct connection), my ps4 will wake up from standby and remote play just fine. I have my ps4 on dmz and enabled UPnP. I've been able to play my ps4 while sitting in a waiting room at my car shop using wifi and also tethered through my phone.

Interesting stuff. Doubly interesting to think that if I could set up UPnP I might be able to make it wake the PS4 via WiFi but not Direct Connect. Good to know at least I'm not the only person who has experienced this.

I'm pretty sure you can connect via the internet if that setting is checked.

You actually, legitimately can not. I think.

Try leaving "Connect Directly to Vita" activated in the settings and connect via internet away from home. It's fucked and I found out after leaving for a few days.

I think it'd be worthwhile for anyone who has troubles connecting over the net to try disabling "Connect Directly to Vita" and see if that fixes the problem

A little OT but I set up remote play on the PS3 last night and it was such garbage I don't even know why Sony bothered.

Anyone have a problem with this wherein they can't turn on the PS4 using the Remote Play option on their Vita? Help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Scenario #1: I'm at home. Direct Connect is enabled.
-My PS4 is in Standby.
-I hit Remote Play on my Vita.
-It finds my PS4.
-It finds my PS4 and it checks the environment.
-It goes to "Turning on PS4."
-It never moves beyond this point. It cycles until it times out.
*I've checked all the appropriate settings, most importantly the option to allow the PS4 to be turned from Remote Play while in Standby. This has been checked.
*The additional rub: If I instead select "Second Screen" rather than "Remote Play" the system immediately turns on from Standby. From here, I can easily connect and use Remote Play.

Scenario #2: I'm at home over wifi, or away. (Direct Connect is not enabled in the Home scenario.)
-My PS4 is in Standby.
-I hit Remote Play on my Vita. (Or Second Screen for that matter.)
-It never finds my PS4.
*I've check all the appropriate settings. I have not dug into the notion of port forwarding, however, given my prior problem, (And the fact that second screen won't work without a Direct Connection from what I can tell) I can find no way to turn on my PS4 remotely.

The scenario makes playing using my Vita unusable outside of sitting on my couch. It's not often I'd like to use it outside my apartment, however, the feature seems far more excited in the other scenario. Thoughts or suggests would be great!

Yep same here. Nothing has solved it. Even got a new router recently and that did nothing. Pretty sure it has nothing to do with the router though since it's direct connect.

For what it is worth, and I felt this was the one thread that might get some use out of it, I solved a minor issue of my own tonight and thought I would share.

I have been unable to start up my PS4 from Standby via Vita Remote Play until tonight. Why? I had a usb keyboard/mouse plugged in to my PS4, and had auto login setup. Once I pulled that USB keyboard/mouse transmitter from the PS4 everything started up without a hitch. Seems it would get stuck asking which account the keyboard should be signing in to... so once removed, it just auto signed in and started right up via Vita.

Hope this helps anyone scratching their head like I was.

This is the exact issue I ran in to. I plugged in a USB dongle for a wireless keyboard when I was playing DC Universe. Remote Play started acting up right after. Took me a little while to realize it was the USB dongle. Once I removed it, things worked fine again.

So, just back from Christmas vacation.

Tried AC4 Remote Play, ~250KM away.

PS4 has 200MB/10MB
Vita had 1MB/0.5MB

Wasn't a great experience, but perfectly fine for running around grabbing collectibles, combat was pretty much impossible though, with counters etc. Can't wait for some FFXIV questing on the go.

Tried to do this while at my parents (about 400km away) but my Vita could not find my PS4. Bummer. Had everything prepared and all.

Do you have a USB headset or any other USB device connected to your ps4? If i have my usb headset plugged in it will not sign in as it wants me to select who is using the headset before it can sign in to the profile with the vita. If it's unplugged it works fine though.

Yes, the fact that Direct Connect is enabled in the home scenario makes me things it's a software issue as well.

Nope. Nothing plugged in. I heard that this might cause an issue, but it wouldn't be my issue.

I'm so lost with this remote play.... can someone shed some light please?

I have my ps4 connected to a router via lan. then when I click remote play on vita the ps4 screen appears on my vita for a few seconds or minutes and then gets pixelated adn disconnects.

do I have to check anything in the ps4 menu?

speedtest.net is saing i've got 15 download/1 upload if that matters.

thoughts? anyone have some tutorials?

cheers.

Ok I enabled unpn in the router settings and in the Vita changed the channel to 6 (network settings) and it works great over the Internet.
Played at a 60km away from the PS4.

For the option of a direct wifi connection from Vita to PS4 (ie not going through your home network wifi) what range do you guys get - for me its next room at best, any way to improve that ?

When this happens is there an icon that pops up in the top left corner of the screen of a ps4? That means your getting interference on that channel. It happens to me sometimes. Set the vita to auto and if it is to auto check your wifi around you with an analyzer and pick the channel with the least amount of people in it 1 6 or 11. Im not sure how the vita chooses which to use on automatic does anyone know?

Still cannot connect over the net. I can only get it working when the PS4 and Vita are within the same network.

I make it all the way to "checking network environment", and the PS4 does turn on remotely, but it fails to complete the process, every single time.

PS4 is connected to a broadband internet Router, while the Vita (sitting a few feet away) is connected to a separate 4G connection off of my phone.

Everything is set, and I've even messed with channels, but no luck :(

Hey All, I'm looking for some help with what I think is a very strange issue. When I first got my PS4 remote play (direct connection) worked perfectly. Now I am having issues though (maybe related to the 1.51 update ... not sure).

Consistenly, my vita screen will freeze every ~14.5 seconds for 1-1.5 seconds. The game does not freeze, just the video feed. I tried turning off direct connection but it is too choppy. I have my PS4 connected via ethernet.

The strange thing is, when I switch my AVR over to my PS4 and display the PS4 on my TV while I'm remote playing, there is no screen freezing. It only happens when my AVR is set to something else (Cable, Blu-Ray, etc.)

Has anyone else run into this issue? Or does anyone have an idea how I might fix this?

Thanks.

Alright GAF, I have no clue how to get this working over the internet. I have UPNP enabled on my home router. Now what do I do? I tried connecting with Remote Play from school but it won't work.

Schools usually block the ports for these kinds of things, you may be out of luck there.

To get remote play working for my vita over the internet I had to turn UPNP off, then back on. For some reason, that fixed it...

Seems like unplugging the HDMI cable from the back of my PS4 when using remote play stops it from freezing every 14.5 seconds. Smooth as butter now. Must be an issue with my Sony receiver.

I use Wifi Analyzer for Android, it's free and works. If you don't have Android phone/tablet, look for similar names.

WiFi analyzer is a good one if you have an android.

Some routers have a site survey option built in also.

I think I've FINALLY figured out my remote play issues. I'm not sure if this has been mentioned before and if not, maybe it will help some people who are having trouble.

TURN OFF REMOTE PLAY ON THE PS3

My random stutters and disconnects and usage of WiFi over Direct Connection seem to have disappeared so far. I think having my PS3 hooked up and setup for Remote Play for my Vita was interfering with it and causing issues over the network. I've now disabled Remote Play on the PS3 and have turned off Direct Connection on the PS4 and it looks good. I'll have to play more tonight, but I'm noticing a huge improvement.

Finally managed to get RP working over the internet by replacing my router, connects every time now. Nothing more glorious than playing some PS4 from the office!

When i got my PS4 i couldn´t get RP working over the net no matter what i tried but i suspected my ISPs shitty gateway was the reason, as we have had similar issues in the past with other stuff that i use from the net to my home network, well finally i caved and bought a Asus RTAC68U router bridged the gateway and bam everything works flawless now, even the strict nat on warframe went away.

Now i can connect and play even from my 3g connection and it works even tho i prefer my 4g, quite surpising how well it works on both with the latter ofc alot more stable and less latency, fully playable on both tho not perfect by any means but hats off to sony this is what RP should have always been heh

Wait I'm confused. So I have home hub and can play via direct or local wifi without any problems. Surely the second would present an issue? I can't use the wifi outside of the house but I imagine my 200kbps upload speed is the reason for that. (And yes, thats the best upload speed on the market in my area)

I've received my upgrade to the HH5 on Friday (£51 from BT), I called them up to question their courier as thankfully a neighbour had brought the package in to our secure flats, after the driver had just left it on the doorstep out in the road and posted a card saying behind drainpipe. Got home from work yesterday and seemed they decided to deliver another one too

I previously had HH2 and 3 and neither of those would allow remote play outside of the home on either the PS3 or more recently the PS4 even when in DMZ. Indoors would be fine, via WiFi but there was something that wouldn't allow the machine to wake from outside. If you check the Sony forums it shows up all the time about it being an issue. It seems it has now been fixed on the HH5 (possibly 4 but I don't have one to check)

Interesting.

Direct connection is choppy as hell for me. Question, if the television is off why would the HDMI cable affect RP?

Is there a guide out there to help get remote play working over the internet? It works great over direct connection and local Wifi, but not over the internet. The PS4 is hooked up through LAN. My Vita can't even find my PS4.

Be sure to enable UPnP. Also, try at least twice to connect. With mine it seems to take too long for the system to turn on the first time around.

I finally swapped out my Airport Extreme for a Linksys router with UPNP. Forwarded proper ports just for the heck of it. Now it works over the internet only when direct connection is unchecked on the PS4.

Fair bit of input lag, and the control layout isn't ideal for a game like BF4 (spotting, sprinting, throwing grenades, etc all are a pain using the rear touch pad), but a game like Don't Starve is perfectly suited for remote play away from home.

Remote Play has been seamless for me from the word "GO".

I live in Taipei, and I have a new slim model Vita. The remote play feature is working astonishingly well for me.

I'm shocked so many people in here seem to be having so many problems.

Vita works ok with PS4 at home ok (notwithstanding my limited range issue mentioned earlier in the thread), but away from home I cant get it to work at all. I have tried all combinations of UPNP, DMZ and manually opening the required ports. It seems to get as far as connecting but after "checking the connection environment" it says "cannot connect to PS4".. screams

Hmm, my Vita will turn on my PS4, but it won't show anything on the screen. Mind you, this is on a 3G connection, but I would think it would at least show up a laggy screen.

edit: tried on a 4G connection, 4.5 down, still nothing.

A super laggy connection always kicks you off, so you might not even pass the quality test to begin with. I would try a coffee shop or something.

Guess I'll have to wait until school tomorrow. The Tim Hortons near me gets a terrible connection, worse than 3G.

I tried disabling those ports however, and it didn't even turn the PS4 on. So maybe it will work tomorrow with a faster connection, we'll see.

I wish the PS4 would let you manually choose between local or internet connection. Would make for much easier testing/setup.
