Not convinced about this and think it's a story to push the buffer zone suggestion.

Maybe they used a helicopter today vs Assad forces but not confirmed yet.

LMAO this reminds me of the fear mongering articles that were being spammed left and right in order to drum up public support for the invasion of Iraq.

ISIS needs to be dealt with but come on, this is stupid.

And where do you hear this if I may please ask? Because our pilots have hundreds of hours of training and flight time under their belts. We even have pilots with thousands of recorded flight hours which is more than some countries may have period. I know the internets favorite past time is to bash on America but when you start bashing our military might, thats just crazy.

Yeah, a friend's dad had 4,200 hours in the F-14 alone.

wow a whole 3 mig jets from 1959.
They'd be better off selling them on ebay instead of trying to go up against the US Airforce.

Guys..don't be naive.

They're swallowing countries whole. They'll get the aviation related facilities soon enough and death threat people to teach their fighters how to fly (or force pilots to do their own dirty work)

Either way they'll still get blown up by Americans (or hopefullly a Canadian so we can do something) pilots because they are that much better. The only threat I see is what Shinobi was saying about them kamikazing them into cities but in a direct fight it would be laughable to think they have a snow ball's chance in hell of doing anything with these fighters.

Not just flight time but logged combat flights. Our aviators are seasoned.

From what I hear, American fighter pilots aren't skilled beyond anyone else in the world. It's that they are riding multi-million dollar machines. If those machines fuck up they are going to look completely ridiculous

Americans are not innately better pilots than anyone else, however US pilots get more real flight hours than most other military pilots, and many of them have actual combat experience. The average US pilot would likely be better than the average British or Chinese pilot, simply because America has used its air force several times in the last two decades against real foes.

Of course, the actual differences in pilot dogfighting skills are going to be relatively unimportant compared to the advantages they get from having not only better aircraft, but also a series of world class supporting units, and existing inside the broader structure that is the US military. Dog fights do sometimes happen even in modern times, but large scale combat doesn't happen in isolation and it's almost never a fair fight between two pilots on even footings.

ISIS today talked to us about something that's foremost in all of our minds this holiday season: presence.

Now, of course, the big item this year is air superiority. Fortunately, due to foreign allocation, many extremists and non-infidels are going to be very disappointed when they look up from under the camouflage tarp this year.

...ISIS, however, will not be disappointed, for you see... ISIS has 3 MiGs.

So, what does ISIS do first? Does ISIS wiggle the stick around a bit with the engines turned off making whoosh-boom-boosh noises; does ISIS take notes from authentic first-person flight-sim gameplay on Youtube while sitting in the cockpit, does ISIS have dozens upon dozens of combat-ready non-pilots take turns striking a pose for selfies on the wing-tops?

The answer is, of course, yes; because, ISIS has 3 MiGs.

ISIS has one in the back of the van with candy,

one under the bed at night

and one under immense geological heat and pressure for crystalline enhancement. Why? Because ISIS has 3 MiGs.

...now, ISIS realizes that while they have 3 MiGs, some of you out there may actually have a MiG of your own, and be thoroughly enjoying your stolen property too. But, imagine how ISIS must feel, with 3 MiGs; I think you'll find that ISIS is enjoying it three times as much.

Now, some of you may be thinking: it's okay, I didn't really want a MiG anyway, and that's true; it is okay. Because, you're getting shot by one anyway; because ISIS, operationally, has 3 MiGs.

ISIS put it like this: imagine you have one cake; and, ISIS has three cakes. This is like that, except you have no cakes; and, ISIS has 3 MiGs. Also, ISIS steals cakes.

One extremist only has two nipples, but ISIS has 3 MiGs.

...is it worth it to have 3 MiGs, when ISIS has its forces under technologically-advanced allied attack? Well, I submit to you that, in time, allies will inevitably disband and turn into rivals amongst themselves; whereas, you will never have 3 MiGs.

Now, you may be trying to cover for your lack of MiGs by buying an F-35; you may even say that flying the F-35 is just as much fun as flying a MiG. This is obviously the talk of somebody who does not have 3 MiGs.

Figure 1.

6JbC7uN.png

This graph illustrates how many MiGs ISIS has, versus how many MiGs you have. As you can see, your column has 0 MiGs; whereas, ISIS has 3 MiGs.

And so, ISIS left us with these simple words to consider this holiday season:

ISIS has 3 MiGs.

ISIS has MiG 21s? How much do you bet every fighter pilot in the middle east just got a hard-on at the thought of such a turkey shoot?

Nope.
There's no way a militia can learn how to fly these things like that. The amount of training and flight hours needed to be even a little bit competent is beyond what these guys have right now.
Its worrying that they have access to such hardware, but i don't believe for one moment they are capable of piolting jets.

How do you know that some of the ISIS members weren't apart of another nations airforce at some point in their lives?

Doesn't matter, during the Iraq War Saddam has 180 jets, most of which were more modern than these mig 21s and they still go wrecked.

what can i say? please take off? in the air is where modern military would prefer to fight. More important to find out who their suppliers are though.

Command n Conquer Generals right before my very eyes...

And even i am moderately surprised
hmm - I have one acquaintance who was in the US airforce but never made it all the way through the training - but he was talking about the progression between the first training jets you pilot vs the next level up and the difference in skill required as the plane becomes more agile etc.

He was talking about a significant number of hours training at each level and , I dunno, the idea of just throwing a few people with limited training into a decent level Mig seems like a recipe for "crashed Mig"

Did they make sure that the planes designers did not use mathematics but simply the grace of Allah? Because that would be mighty unholy of them to rely on vile mathematics.

DCS-Mig21 fishbed could not have been released at a better time lol ;)

The plane is so archaic its not even funny, you have to manage the liquid cooling of the radar and only have a certain period of use just for example. When i tried it in DCS i felt even the A10 was a "modern" fighter compared to that shit lol.

The only way for ISIS to use these would be to kamikaze them into a city. And the only target within range of the MiG 21 is Israel. Which happens to have one of the best airforces in the world. And the best anti-aircraft protection. At most they'll shoot a couple of videos with them and then hide them under a carpet somewhere.

WHat if instead of a city, they use it to kamikaze on one of the airports the coalition is using? Suddenly you have 5-6 destroyed F-16s, a bit of ground crew dead? It would have a huge impact on Western support of the war because suddenly you couldn't present it as a 'safe' war.

Are you under the impression that the coalition air forces are a bunch of bumbling idiots? What base would they even go after, the closest one is well into Turkey and they would all be well protected by advanced radar and air defenses. The distance they would have to fly from Syria to any coalition base is such that they would be shot down long before they reach the target, in fact the US has eyes on Syria and Iraq at all times, there's always planes in the air. The only feasible targets of success are close Syrian population centers away from Assad air defenses.

I feel like some of the concerned citizens in here are just throwing out random ideas without thinking about them.

Any competent air defense in the area will prevent them from being able to use them in that manner. They will sit these in a bunker somewhere until this phase is over and they are trying for 'statehood'.

But do they have any fucking idea how to fly them.

Yes. There are a number of military soldiers from the various branches of Iraq and apparently Turkey that are mixed into ISIS. They don't have any opportunity to use them, but they've been able to use a wide variety of more modern hardware including tanks and other weapons (they've been able to shoot down Iraqi Apaches recently). The idea that these are just some guys out of the desert who just happened across this hardware is a common mistake and represents a severe misunderstanding of ISIS in the west.

Good luck trying to get close to a military airport. Unless the guys there are serious idiots.

Don't forget the us has aircraft that doesn't need to dogfight.

Mufaq Salti in Jordan? The one where they're trying to keep their presence secret from the local population.

So the plane just crashes into a city on the way there. It would still prove effective. It would prove more realistic than using them to attack Israel considering Jordan is a bit closer.

Yes, you'd only have a flame wreckage falling. Still more realistic than them reaching the more heavily protected Israel. So I'll re-iterate, it would seem smarter to attack an air base in Jordan than to try and hit Israel.

The lack of training for their potential pilots, the lack of modern equipment to field, and the lack of numbers. No better story to cover, news?

how do you know those assholes don't have access to a simulator? Combine that with no fucks given about dying and being hell bent on doing whatever, it's worrying.
