i've been looking at the profiles of people who post. it's always funny to see Male when someone posts a rant about sexism.

but i just realized, they only allow Male and Female genders, don't they? i could be wrong but i feel like i would be see Xhe/Xir/Zyz/whatever a lot if they allowed for more than just binary. but i'm only seeing Male or Female.

isn't that, like, crazy insensitive, given what that site purports to be?

I do think the trans segment of Era could be one possibility for its ultimate downfall.

A lot of people like to think they're over represented on Era, but in terms of pure membership numbers, they really aren't. They're 0.1%-0.5% of the population there just as they are in reality (if not slightly more represented). They just happen to be really loud.

When you're a marginalized minority like that to the point most people have never even knowingly interacted with someone like you, there's going to be misunderstandings and a learning process. Most trans people acknowledge that and won't blow up on you the second you don't know some new term that isn't widespread.

Not Era. They want it to be a complete safespace where no fuck-ups are tolerated even from well-meaning people. Cerium will need to make a choice if he wants to cater to that very small segment of the forum. I imagine he wants to believe all the supposed "allies" on Era will be perfect with their language going forward, but that's just not possible as long as trans people are that small of a population. So the best bet is just straight up making it a true trans safespace where cis people straight up aren't allowed. If he got every single trans gamer in the world on board, he could probably make a good living off it. But that won't happen because a large segment of the trans population, gamer or otherwise, aren't fucking psychopaths like the people on Era. So he's stuck between a rock and a hard place in regards to simultaneously catering to normies and people that fucking loath normies.

If I were in his shoes, I would have just sold the place by now and let whoever's in charge next get cannibalized.

It's a tough situation for sure. He's definitely risking a trans-exodus with the banning of KetKat, and being abandoned by what is often claimed to be "the most vulnerable group" for making them "not feel safe" is certainly terrible optics if you're trying to attract anyone who identifies with wokeness.

Well, in regards to many of the self-described trans women (I write it this way because some are not transitioning nor have any intention to do so or think it is even an important step to becoming a woman) on Era, at least, they will tell you that trans women are women, that there is no difference, and to say otherwise is bigoted, but they don't actually believe it. They demand special status-- that their trans status afford them privileges above that of the other members of the community. You see it all the time and even in this latest thread describing trans members as "important voices" and some even using it as a reason to not ban KetKat.
