Sometimes stuff about the forum itself has to be discussed offsite.

Remember when transparency was a major goal of Resetera when it started? Let's count the things that haven't been transparent and require offsite "sleuthing" to talk about.

.The makeup of the LLC that was supposed to "give back to the community" (Cerium's name, Isamu Fukui, isn't even public knowledge on the site)
.Cerium's homophobic past
.B-dubs transphobic posts on Gaf (a thread was made, but no examples were given)
.The alleged acephobic mod that Ketkat uncovered (this was never resolved btw)

And that's just the commonly known stuff.

Then you got the stuff that's technically publicly available on the site, but tucked away in random threads. Stuff such as:

.Ketkat's permaban despite the site previously throwing a fit when she was permabanned for "dog-whistling" and exposing the bigotry of secret Era staff discords.
.Frank O Connor, the franchise director for Halo (AKA Stinkles) getting permabanned for racism
.The absolute failure of the Asian-Era summit
.Several marginalized groups leaving the site due to staff not taking their concerns seriously.
.Nepenthe being a complete psycho and antisemite.


Maybe if any of these things could be talked about without people getting banned, they wouldn't have to use "shady" places to find out basic information.

I got banned for calling "bullshit" by wanting to keep Halo threads about Halo and not nuking every stupid YT channel or tweet etc. They conflated that with their transphobic agenda and stealth upgraded me from temp ban to perma ban as they lurk GAF obviously. I'm happy for people to live their lives how they see fit, no harm no foul. GAF has evolved to being more open, a transition it has made quite well with members still fighting but at least appreciating a more open, free speech enabling and transparent forum. Apparently that's not something ERA appears to desire. I'm actually thankful for the ban, it enabled me to delve into the seedy underbelly of ERA and I'm far happier at GAF these days. Jokes are allowed, as is a good time.

EDIT: One thing I've noticed about ERA is a lack of worldly experience by the admin/mod team. They literally live in a USA bubble over there, typical of Americans though, most never even travel outside of America let alone hold a valid passport.

I love China, I love living here. The culture is amazing, people are caring, the language despite being hard is pretty fucking cool, and I love the way the chinese think as a community. They are welcoming (ok, there's a few bad apples of course) and I was surprised how much I love this place.

The virus was an unfortunate situation - I mean, I was stuck in a room for 6 months because the city where I live in is pretty close to Wuhan. But look now, I go to work freely, no new cases to be seen here (at least my city, some others still appear now and then). I miss home, I miss my family to death, but I would lie if I said I want to go back. I love it here.

I have a couple of outsourcing teams in China and I love those guys and girls. Great coders, very respectful, intelligent and super hard workers. Some areas of China have really increased their quality of life/community. I've been through families being born by them, visits in person and generally have nothing but great things to say. I treat them like family. Long ago before my own company my old boss left China to start an Australian company and he had such a great outlook on life in general. It really stuck with me over the last couple of decades in my own life. Typical of Chinese culture I suppose. Glad to hear about the virus in your area mate.

The communist nature of the CCP is where the problems are, in that respect I suppose ERA is much like that. Good and bad people within but the leaders are the ones fucking things up for the most part.

How do you find the great firewall over there? My teams have to deal with it on occasion.

One thing I love about chinese mentality: they don't mind your business. You are you, you have your own beliefs, you pray to your own gods, you have your own culture. Most people don't know but China is made of minorities. The amount of cultural differences here is pretty astounding. I love it, and they really respect each other.

Yes, they have their problems. But can you actually judge chinese people being happy with a government that took 800 million out of poverty? That put China as the second biggest economy? A government that gave them jobs and a house through social programs? This is what a lot of people dismiss - there's a reason why chinese people are actually happy with their government overall.

But the leaders being a problem is something present in basically any country. Those with power are deemed to fuck up somehow.

I have my problems with it. I'm a computer engineer and VPN is my best friend. When Google doesn't work, Bing goes to the rescue. Luckily GAF works without the need of a VPN, but the connection is pretty iffy sometimes.

And good thing I installed WeChat on all my family member's phones before coming to China. Messenger and What's App is a no go for video calls here.

While extreme, never ending crunch that spirals on forever puts a lot of stress on people and affects their home lives and mental well-being, I don't think you can dismiss ALL crunch.

For many of us, it's just part of life. We had a project at my work last year that required early starts and late finishes for a fortnight, to launch a new website. Nobody complained. In fact everyone was really invested and wanted to do the best they could as they took pride in the project. We also all bonded over the experience and it was actually fun. Hard work, sure, but hard work that felt rewarding.

CDPR asked for six extra days from staff, and paid them overtime. The company have been working on Cyberpunk for years, I can't see that staff there would willingly throw it under the bus rather than commit to six days PAID work. I bet a lot of the team are proud to be working on one of the decades most anticipated games and are more than happy to put in the extra work.

Have any of the staff actually expressed their displeasure at the crunch? Do they need a bunch of ransoms on a message board to 'speak up' for them, whilst actively trying to sabotage the game they've all worked so hard on?
