The same people who whine about "systematic oppression" somehow got time to play video games now? Maybe their issue isn't racism/sexism, they just need to put down the controller and do something more productive.

Every single fast food restaurant can learn from Chik-Fil-A in regards to service
I wish there was one closer, I've only eaten there a few times, but it's always been tasty. No crazy lines that I remember though. In-N-Out around here always has crazy lines in the afternoon/evening, I don't even bother going there later in the day even with the people helping in line though.

Racism is not a necessary part of the internet, but it has certainly been there since the very beginning if you include snot-nosed punks who use racist slurs in online games and IRC chat.
The internet is the best place to interact with people without getting slandered for your race, your gender, your age, your education level, etc. However, most internet users are either idiots or sociopaths who deliberately give away their anonymity.

I remember those people arriving, mostly as offices began connecting every PC to the internet. Before that is took some investment and knowledge that the normies didn't have. I just remember thinking "holy shit, these guys think the internet is real and respond like it's real life (AKA no fun allowed).

The transition from the internet in the 90s to the internet of the 00s was... sad. You could do so much more, and so much less.. somehow all at the same time. It became just a thing, part of life.. it wasn't very exciting anymore. The 10's really hammered home that fact. The internet for most people is now just an extension of their normal lives, they just try to pretend their lives are better on instagram or twitter (or pretend their lives are miserable on Ree).
I absolutely loved it more when people were free to be a new person or whatever they wanted before. You'd meet someone on IRC or a game or whatever, and they could be.. literally anyone, but it didn't matter because all anyone judged you for was how you acted on the internet. I feel old.

I felt like it really enabled and encouraged people to seek out new life and new civilizations.. now most people just want to be "safe" & comfortable in a circle jerk hug box.
I think maybe some people just got burnt out of the massiveness of it all. For my whole childhood you only ever saw local news and maybe the big national stuff if it was big enough. But hell if I knew what people were doing on the other side of the state, let alone country or world.. now we've bombarded with every damn thing (usually negative) that everyone does, everywhere.. it has to have the effect of making people think less about these far away places.. because all you ever here is the bad stuff.

Smartphones really aren't even cheaper Internet access compared to the netbooks and cheap laptops, and relatively affordable Internet connections you could get starting in the mid-2000s or so, not to mention free access at schools and libraries.
