Resident Evil 2 Remake |OT| Party like it's 1998

I don't understand the whole reloading saves thing in a game like this. Yes you can do it but you're cheating yourself from any sense of achievement from playing. I've never done it in any game, it's pointless. I usually use two or three save files in case one screws up, but I'm alway saving over stuff.

Because it can be frustrating to be in the middle of the game and have no resources because you weren't conservative enough, making it almost impossible to progress unless you are a master at dodging enemy attacks as well as Mr. X. Some people find it preferable to savescum and spare themselves the frustration. It's like in XCOM, where some players avoid ironman like the plague because they don't want to lose high-level soldiers because of poor tactical decisions (or bad 'dice damage rolls') in one particular mission. For some, that's awesomesauce. For others, that just plain sucks.

In the end, it's all about preference.

Is the hip pouch in the room with the C4 gone on hardcore? It isnt showing up for me but nobody seems to mention it. I dont think I really need it but I just want to make sure.

Claire A for the record.

What is the difference damage wise between acid and flame rounds for specific enemies (Other than the plants)? You would think acid rounds would be more effective against Lickers, like the original, but it seems it takes two of either type to kill them.

Acid rounds are a good choice when you need to save flame rounds for the plant zombies - I've discovered that in Standard difficulty, one acid round and 3-6 handgun bullets are enough to put down a licker.

I've found it to be a kind of weird balance. One acid round can take down an Ivy if you let it burn for a while, but you'll need two, or one plus bullets, for a licker.

It seems like the pool of fire the flame rounds leave is significant- since it does damage over time, it'll kill a licker in one round if you hit them while they're on the ground. Not so if they're on a wall or ceiling though- you'll need one to knock them down plus one to secure the kill in that case.

Flame rounds + SMG are incredible for quickly killing bosses though. Light them on fire, then fill them with lead until it goes out. Rinse and repeat.

But it doesn't permanently kill the Ivy, right? I mean, unless they burn, they come back … right?

I have a suspicion that they're unkillable and come back on a timer no matter which method you use, nothing's seemed consistent for me so far.

That said, it's possible that I'm getting confused by the scripted event that repopulates the greenhouse when you activate the herbicide.

Flamethrower will do it, it takes a lot of bursts but at one point it'll burst into flames and leave just a charred skeleton. That's when it's fully dead. I guess flame rounds should do it.

Cool. Thanks guys. I'll try these out. What difference would it make if acid rounds weren't even in the game? Like you would just craft flame rounds. I guess it would make the ivy in the lab too easy.

How does using First Aid Spray affect your Rank/Grade in this game? Does it still drop it a whole letter grade like it did in the original game?

I feel like they're there to add a bit of variety and make flame rounds feel more special. In my mind they're kind of like a budget knock-off that you bodge together yourself when the real thing isn't available :messenger_tongue:

There might be some creative uses for them that we've yet to see though. The way the acid splashes in an AoE makes me think that maybe you could it that to soften up a tightly-packed group of zombies to save on ammo.

It doesn't- ranks are entirely based on time outside of S+ which also mandates three saves or less.

First aid sprays are basically just R+G herbs now.

Got S+ last night on Claire B. Might try Hardcore soon. 🤔
I finished up my first hardcore run last night, didn't seem as different as I was expecting it to be. Less ammo overall and tougher baddies, though the ink ribbon system makes it feel like REmake all over again :messenger_grinning:

Is it as bad as people say or is it from people new to these type of games?

The 4th Survivor is some extraordinary bullshit. After dying like 15 times I finally made it to the extraction point at the entrance of RPD, with basically no bullets left because I figured what the hell, might as well use it up, only to be greeted with "fuck you, the princess is in another castle"- plot twist son of a bitch scenario. So I run like hell in danger mode with Mr X after me, some deformed plants and 100 zombies just chewing my dying flesh. This is not what I call fun. I´m done with this shit now.

I'd say it's akin to hard mode in REmake if you've played that. Died a couple of times, was low on ammo by the end, but I made it through just fine.

I think a lot of it is people new to the franchise punching a difficulty or two above their weight.

Yeah that's Hunk alright. The mode as a whole is kind of a microcosm of RE speedrunning mentality- you need to optimize your route, juke as many encounters as possible and save your grenades for stuff like the parking lot and last stretch after the fire escape.

And Tofu is even tougher, but well worth doing to see the hilarious unlockables.

Don't fight enemies, just run. Don't be afraid to use ammo only light those up that matter. Shoot zombies legs to stun them or drop them with the machine gun. When those two G Mutants appear in the sewers use a grenade to stun them then run past them. Also be sure to either shoot to stun or sub item the plants they IK. Just move forward.

I am doing Claire B on normal, but I probably should have picked hardcore. I currently have 7 R+G+B herbs sitting in the storage chest along with like 5 extra greens and a couple blues. I have maybe 7 or 8 of the regular and yellow gunpowders each in there as well. I'm about halfway through the sewers. This has been a bit too breezy! Obviously I'm doing the next playthrough on hardcore.

I knew they'd end up making standard pretty easy, reason I went with hardcore for my initial playthrough.

Standard is pretty fun for running through the game just blasting everything you see though.

I've now beat the game many, many times, and am currently going for a no item box run (saved right at the end). Already done the no health run and Leon hardcore. After that will be trying the Clair A hardcore run, then its time to give up. I won't be getting those S rank hardcores I don't think... :(

So now if a developer portrays a Police Station as a safe heaven during a zombie outbreak (even though it turns out it isn't) he's a far-right wing supporter? Because apparently it's cool today to hate the police?

Fuck this bullshit. Fuck this nonsense of having literally EVERYTHING be politically correct.

Then again, just because a poor asshole makes this review doesn't mean that anyone has to give it any importance.

Exactly. When someone says something stupid that you might disagree with; the answer isn't to fall perpetually into the petty rabbit hole of reactionary politics that a lot of posters on a site like this one have fallen into. You don't have to disavow or attack SJW-ism in general; you look at things on a case by case basis like a rational person should.

That post wasn't about Political Correctness as much as it was about Virtue Signaling - at least in the given context, which you should also be considering. That being, that there's very little to none given for that Twitter post. It was framed a particular way to make you react to it in a certain way. You're letting yourself easily be manipulated and that's a staple of alt-right behavior (and hard left behavior as well).

Yeah, I read the entire article after posting my, erm … post. Couldn't edit, so I let it go. Still, I think it's stupid to play an RE game and expect it to be about sharing resources with NPCs.

Just beat Leon B on Standard. The beginning was pretty hard considering I forgot where item placements were, but then it did get easy as I kept playing the same way as i did in the beginning, conserve ammo and health. Plus, I ended up getting all mr. raccoons, ended up having that unbreakable knife. Being a huge fan of the original, I really loved this remake. There were a few things I didn't quite like but the reason to all of that can be summed into one word: Capcom.

Any tips on how to face those disgusting creatures in the sewers? I mean, those which shoot those damned poisonous tadpoles or whatever they are.

Flashbank/Grenade to run past them or you can shoot one that's underwater and run past fast. If you have to fight, shoot their left shoulder to expose a big eye.

Claire's Flame Rounds with her grenade launcher can do wonders. Fire one of them babies and shoot their giant eyestalk a few times and they're done for.
As for Leon, one shot of his Magnum in the eyestalk and then a shotgun or a few handgun bullets.

If you're referring to the part where there's three of them, try running past them, acquire the flamethrower, then return with a vengeance. Tap two or three times (TAP, don't hold down) the fire button to start burning them, take a few steps back then shoot them a couple of times with the handgun.

Thank you very much. I'm having a hard time in the sewers, I'm trying to spare as many bullets as possible but those bastards are extremely annoying and you can't get past them easily without getting injured.

Regarding the flamethrower, I need to find the chess piece first and I don't know where it is. I'm playing with Leon.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think both the King and the Queen pieces are in the room with the flamethrower. It's the other four that are placed all over the facility. You don't need the other four for the flamethrower puzzle, just the ones already in the room.

Yup, just checked - both the King and Queen are in that room. Solve the puzzle to leave with both chess pieces AND the flamethrower.

Finished Leon A hardcore and Claire B hardcore. Claire run was easier as noted by how much ammo and health items I had left at the end.

First shot 4th Survivor.

Good game with some minor problems here and there. Mediocre acting, however.

You know when I originally played this game back on the N64 I didn't even realize there was a 2nd campaign. I just though Claire was another skin you could play the game with after you beat it. I literally missed out on half the game.

The level of detail in this game is amazing. A zombie was chasing me and just before he could grab me, he trips over a dead corpse and falls to the ground. He has trouble getting up too. A similar event happened in the lab. A zombie was chewing on another zombie so I shot her in the head which made her fall down with the dead body she was munching on coming over her. She can´t get up due to the other zombie laying over her so she begins to crawl instead with a dead corpse stuck over her. The zombies in general are very detailed and gruesome. Just love to shoot them in the head so it explodes. Or blast one of their limbs off, Dead Space-style. If you shoot both arms off they can´t grab you.

Lmao, dunno who Danielle Riendeau is but I never want to read anything from her again.

She talks about herself and her personal feelings more than the game itself. If I'm reading a video game review I want to hear about the game, I don't give a flying fuck about you the reviewer.

Man, imagine actually living the life of someone who could play a game this awesome, and instead of deriving any enjoyment from it, you just think about race for the 113th time that day.

What a miserable, pathetic existence.
