Resident Evil 2 Remake |OT| Party like it's 1998

My kill all zambonies run went well.

When the original game came out, me and my friends called him "The trenchcoat man". Only actually heard of Mr X years later went I gained access to the internet.

When you turn the game off he appears in your house. :messenger_astonished:

From what I understand he follows you around in the station but only appears at set moments in other places.

Didn't Claire call him Mr X in the original RE2? It's been years since I played it so I cannot recall.

Oh well I was close, it's Lisa Ann. Couldn't see her face clearly in the other one since its lower quality.

I've never heard of him being called Mr. X in the original, this is what I found tho.

There are many T-103s, seeing as how they are mass-produced. However, the one seen in Resident Evil 2 is often referred to as Mr. X (most likely due to the fact that Claire Redfield referred to it as such in the Resident Evil: City Of The Dead novelization)

I've heard that the name was also used in a toy line that tied into the original release of RE2.

Sherry with a minigun, holy shit :messenger_tears_of_joy:

The first person stuff is kind of fascinating, it looks playable in a loose sense, but reminds me more of how a VR game looks when you're watching a 2D screen mirror it. Very shaky.

This is pretty sucky, headshots should do more damage. They should add in a mode were headshots do massive damage but only headshots kill zombies.

Turns out that initial assessment was untrue, location does matter. For zombies:
- head, chest - 100%
- shoulders, upper arm, thighs - 90%
- lower leg - 60%
- lower arms - 20%

Also the b run .45 handguns deal around 1.5x more damage than the 9mm handguns.

My biggest issue with Mr X is that both options for getting away from him suck. If they wanted to make someone who hunted you, they should give you a way to hide. Since they don't, you either have to waste a bunch of ammo, or run around the map for a long time, hoping he loses you. I just don't find it fun, especially when moving the library shelves. Everything else is great, but Mr X is a negative IMO.

waste a bunch of ammo
Letting him burn for a bit after one flame round from the grenade launcher will down him in my experience.

It's less ammo than you'd think, though I guess the idea of downing him kind of goes aginst the ammo conservation the game encourages.

I got by him just fine the 1st try, you might be doing something wrong. Even IGN got by Mr x

Avoiding MR. X was pretty easy. Alien Isolation this ain't.

Though, it's better than Isolation in that Mr. X doesn't seem to teleport around you. You really get the feeling that he is wandering around in random rooms and that makes it scarier, even though it's easier.

I actually managed to hide from him in the library. Walking around makes you hard to hear, so if you walk around the bookcases and keep breaking line of sight with him, he can lose you as he walks from above. I used the camera to my advantage to see where he was looking / going, and I walked accordingly to keep him from spotting me. His music died out, he walked around in the library trying to spot me, he eventually gave up and walked out. You *can* hide, but the environment has to help out.

I do agree however with your point. A crouch button (like Sherry's) could work in helping you break line of sight. Hopefully they'll integrate one in REmake 3 to help you against Nemesis.

Tip: BEFORE your first encounter with Mr. X, move the right shelve to the left and all the shelves on the left to the right. After you get the tool, you can move all three shelves on the left with one push that pushes all three shelves at once. So when Mr. X is going after you, you only have to use the tool and once push the remaining three shelves.

You can hide in the dark room where you Develop the photos ;)

I know that there are places to hide from Mr X, but it just slows down the action considerably when I have to abandon what I'm doing to go run off somewhere and wait for a minute or so, and then run back and hope he doesn't catch me.

When I think of good examples of being hunted, the best one that comes to mind is Scissorman from the Clock Tower games, simply due to the fact that the game gave you plenty of places to hide as well as the mansion not being all that big, so having to run away wasn't too time consuming.

What are you playing on? TURN ON SOME AAs!!!

I turned AA off when i was playing on the 4K screen because its not noticeable in 4K resolution but then i had to switch to my Laptop screen which only supports 1080p to take the screenshots and i forgot to turn AAs back :messenger_grinning_sweat:

Mr. X doesn't even phase me after playing Alien Isolation. He is a moderate tier threat at best. And I played on hardcore too :messenger_sunglasses:

I don’t understand this ending, just finished the game, but the ending was non existent?

Am I expected to repeat the game to understand basic plot points? (Who is Mr X)

You need to beat Route B for the true ending.

I can't remember if Mr. X is ever explained in this game... But he's a Tyrant that Umbrella sent in to retrieve the G-virus sample and "clean up" any stragglers.

Originally in the PS1 ver there was a cutscene showing an Umbrella helicopter air-dropping him in via canister(One of several) but they didn't include that in the remake.

My first playthrough is on hardcore & I'm in the midst of my first mr x encounter. I'm about 4 hours in & for me, this thing is a straight 10/10. Mr. X in particular is awesome, i.e. I hid down in joint observation/interrogation rooms (with the broken glass) & he didn't come in. I waited until his footsteps were far away & decided to go back upstairs... & the fucker suddenly punched through the press room wall & created a shortcut. Epic.

I now need to grab the muzzle brake from the safe, enter the S.T.A.R.S. office computer to get whatever weapon is in there, grab the tool for the shelves in the library, clear out the library (there are still 3 zombies in there in my playthrough), move the shelves, save at a typewriter & then find the pieces for the clock tower. All whilst "boom, boom, boom" Mr. X & his footsteps (+ numerous lickers & zombies) snap at Leon's heels (also, the devs obviously love the original haunting of hill house movie).

What makes him a better "invincible" enemy than Alien Isolation's? He's not an instant kill on sight. I feel he should serve as a new benchmark, really, i.e. a terrorizing enemy who hunts the player down... yet isn't an instant game over when he spots us. Running away, dodging enemies & losing Mr. X is some of the most intense stuff I've played in a horror game.

2ND RUN will be available from the menu and makes you play as the other character. It will speed past the plot points you already experienced in abridged form and you'll get to see a whole new side of the story. Its also fairly different gameplay-wise. You'll encounter enemies in different areas, gain access to new weapons, and even fight new bosses.

Don't just pick regular old new game or you will end up replaying what you already played.

Thanks, I'll start that other new game, I forgot there was a section with a different character.

Finished the game with Leon, 9+ hrs, rank C (50+ saves). The game is basically telling me I sucked haha. I really loved it, that's how remakes or remasters have to be done, not a simple retexture but a reinvention of some old elements with the introduction of new ones. They didn't shake up things radically and that's what it makes so excellent... It has really been a surprise, I wasn't expecting great things but this remake managed to keep me going and it never felt boring. The level design is excellent I must add.

I freaking hate L3/R3 inputs. I just had two decent S+ ranks obliterated because I kept accidentally switching ammo. I even tried to remove the second ammo type on the last run to avoid it but the game glitched out and registered the other ammo anyway despite it not actually being in my inventory.

Yeah, it's a long forgotten art in this age of open world shitness. Everybody just creates a huge, boring open world, throws the player in and calls it a day. RE2s level design is really high level videogame maker craftsmanship. I just wish there were more games like this, but there aren't ANY.

I’m on Clair A with the infinite pistol. I am the cure!

We should have a Co-Op wave mode in this game. The gun play is too fun to only be survival horror.

As separate mode why not? In story mode like RE5, FUCK NO!!! I like to play survival horror games alone and in hardest difficulty and don't want to deal with shitty AI like Siva in RE5.

Edit: Either I'm very slow or you guys are too fast. I'm still at Leon part A and it doesn't help I chose hardcore from get-go but god damn I loving the the gameplay in this game.

I just beat the guy with big eyeball in his shoulder for second time and really running low on supplies.

100% a separate mode. Ideally with different characters. But the gunplay is too good to limit the player with only survival horror.

Im closing in on Claire A and man her arsenal just kicks so much ass. I feel like that .38 has a greater head pop chance than Leon's pistol and that grenade launcher and spark shot are more or less one hit kills.

The Sherry segment was also creepy as fuck. Better than the Ada segment but still pace breaking.

There is a mention that Leons shot gun has a high chance of blowing their heads off. Also Leons mag has a high chance.

Finally got my run to an S+ rank. Starting a fresh run now to see how much closer I can get it to the record. I suck at stair sliding so it probably wont be that close.

Yup, character modelling and animation are excellent, not only for main characters but for every creature in the game (they are not many but who cares). It's some of the best I saw in my videogaming career. :D

I really like this game, but now that I'm on my 3rd playthrough (on hardcore) I think I've come to the conclusion that the boss fights aren't good. I enjoy the whole run outside of the boss fights. It just feel like they were made for a game with different controls.

Avoiding William feels so clunky and they stick you in these tiny areas where you're supposed to accurately shoot his eyedicks while also avoiding his large, sweeping attacks and jumps. It's not that it's overly difficult, it's just that it isn't fun or satisfying.

I'm not overly fond of them either. The first battle with Birkin is just a major pain in the ass mostly because of the camera. The rest of them are just too simple and samey.

I got down to 1h 15m 50s. I think I could get down to sub 1h 12m or so but cracking 1h 10m is looking rough. Id have to really ace the first birkin fight to make it.

Do you use any of the speedrunner strategies for the first Birkin fight? I know nothing about it personally, but maybe someone like distortion2 has a strategy that could be consistent for you with your already insane clear times. Though, he's on the PC version where running 120fps makes the knife do more damage, so I don't know if it translates to the console version well or not.
