But surely there should be an Xbox2 game on the level of Halo to consider. Also, if that Mario 128 on the Cube news is to be considered truhtful, that would probably come out this year.

I think we need to see what the second half of the year holds before we start handing out GOTY.

Still, it has to be said that RE4 looks amazing!

Well that's basically it for stuff like AIAS. GAF will probably be better in including everything from the year. CoR and NG were top games for 2004.

Perhaps they deserve it as well. 16-bit color was my only major complaint, but I can deal with that if everything else is polished as hell. I was disappointed in the rather sparse forest area and low-res environmental textures, but that doesn't mean it didn't look fantastic. MGS2 still continues to impress the hell out of me today, but it is loaded with low-res textures and other shortcomings.

I still think the game looks great and, really, that's just a part of the experience. If the game itself is as good as people are saying, I could deal with an even greater hit to the visuals...

All of this is true, but Wanda is already being seen by many as the successor to Ico in a spiritual sense. Unless the game is horrible, I doubt many will stray from their positions.

I'd like Nintendo to hire the RE4 team to help polish up Zelda. I'd love to see this level of visual and audio detail in a Zelda game, we now know that the GC is capable of doing it.

And I remember Nintendo saying that the next Zelda is going for a more action-oriented approach and RE4 has some rpg elements, so I think direct comparisons between the two will be very reasonable. Nintendo has a game to beat on their own console now and God help me if they manage to do it.

Resident Evil 4 is the Ninja Gaiden of last year, it wont win GOTY except from diehard fans.

At any rate, rest assured that much of the audio in Resident Evil 4 will be just as memorable as many of the atrocious-in-a-good-way things you'll see. It's difficult to decide whether the audio is even better than the visuals, but there's no question these elements work extremely well together to create an incredibly atmospheric experience.

Great score, and yet RE4 is still only the #10 game on Gamespot's own Most Popular game list.

I have a bad feeling that the masses of stupidity won't recognize the game, just because of its GC affiliation.

Wow are you guys in the States ever getting rolled price-wise. This game is listed everywhere up here in Canada for $49.99. Where as most U.S. websites have the game for the same price.

Gee first time ever a game is cheaper in Canada.


On topic: I cant wait to pick this up. I have left Tuesday night completely open and I plan to be doing nothing but playing this for a bit. Sucks that I have to go out of town for work on Thursday and wont be back until Sunday. Ugh.

I was going to import from them but it's 32 bucks US to post!! INSANE! Plus you have to fax your latest credit card statement and ring your bank and basically do a lot of running around. I wanted it soooo bad.

Maybe its by design to add more tension, fast weapon swapping would make the game easier and less realistic.

I don't mind the lack of fast weapon swapping. I'm just a little disapointed they didn't put analogue control in. I don't think I even care about the lack of strafing either! It's just the digital control that annoys me somewhat. Just a small blemish on an otherwise near perfect game! Note, that I didn't really mind the controls in the old games so it's not going to really matter in the end.

No you can use the analogue stick it just doesn't provide any analogue control. Leon walks no matter how hard your push on the stick. You have to press the B button down to run. So you'll probably want to use the D-Pad anyway.

It's also technically impressive in less-apparent ways, such as in how there are virtually no discernable loading times at any point in the game, which helps to keep you immersed in the experience.

As for the game, I need to play it. Don't have the demo and been ignoring the game due to not wanting anything spoiled. Biohazard 2 was the last game to feature Leon "Special" Kennedy, and it was great. I'm hoping this lives up to it.

Oh and I note that they do support DPLII, and it's implementation is good. That I'm quite happy for.

Just as well, I guess, since Hori Pad has no rumble!

I like the GC pad well enough... it's my favorite of the 4 stock controls this gen... it's just that playing with the Hori Pad would have been cooler!

You do have to remember that both games barely missed 2004 releases and would have been worthy contenders then, so I see no reason why they stand any less chance of receiving 2005 GOTY honors (besides the possible state of some voters' long term memories ).

The PS2 release should remind everyone of the title.
