Resident Evil 4 - Ultimate HD Edition |OT| Welcome back, stranger!

The DOF effect was really more of a blur filter and I thought looked poor.

The specular highlights were only used on some objects to make them appear slimy. Not sure how many objects actually used this effect, but shouldn't be too noticeable unless you are looking for them.

OK, that doesn't sound too bad.

So mafioso and Ashley knight outfit work in cutscenes now?

Just as they did in the Wii release, yes.

Hopefully this game lives up to my incredibly high standards for RE4. I swear to god, if the controls are based on anything but the Wii version, I'm going to murder someone.

They did? I did not know this, lmao.

Can't wait.

Wanna know why the PS2 version has FMV's? Because the poor system couldn't handle running anywhere near the same geometry as the GCN version, and the cutscenes zooming in on faces would have made that brutally apparent. Thus FMVs which only ever have the standard outfits.

EDIT: I wonder if we can mod the game back into the Gamecube version with item drops/button prompts, and then I just plug in a GC controller for maximum awesome...

I knew that much, but I thought the HD collection released for last gen didn't feature the costumes in cutcenes either.
Whatever, good to know.

They weren't even running at a steady 30 fps, which is just shameful for a game that old.

And it didn't even had anti-aliasing or anisotropic filtering. Looked pretty bare-bones for an HD port. I would have regret my purchase of the PS3 version if I didn't enjoy it at least.
Good thing I'll be able to experience this game with clean image quality at last.

God, I will be making so many 4k screenshots.

What you mean?

Probably not a fan of tank controls, I would take it. However, I and I know many other would argue that Resident Evil 4 is developed around these controls, and in my honest opinion I think it controls perfectly fine. I never had any moment where I had really difficulty controlling Leon, or making him do what I wanted him to do.

Did this game ever have real time cut scenes before? I seem to remember cut scenes being crappy and compressed...

On every version but the PS2 version. PS2 had compressed, recorded cutscenes, but the Gamecube and Wii versions (and the HD versions and the old PC version I believe(?)) had real-time cutscenes. Makes them look a lot nicer, and makes alternate outfits work in cutscenes.

I don't want to play this game again. I have it now already on 3 seperate consoles (PS2, Wii, and PS3)... but I will end up buying it again won't I? This is the game that just won't let me stop...

Nope, the old PC version had the compressed, recorded cutscenes too. Really the worst of the worst.

People kept perpetuating that myth online even in the face of clear video evidence to the contrary. It was bizarre.

It's worth noting that the mafia costume and the knight's armor don't appear in cutscenes though. The other alternate outfits do. I'm not sure why that is.

Do you guys think that old RE4 mod that had the old camera will work on this steam version?

I'm hoping it may resurface. I also have my secret hope, though it's a bizarre one, that the developers have something cool like this in the actual game, as they were being pretty evasive to certain special features in the options menu outside of resolution control and the like, which they want to "keep to themselves until release."

I bet it's nothing huge, but it got me curious.

No, it did not. Those two costumes did not appeared in cutscens, god knows why.

Maybe they never created cutscene quality assets for those two costumes? Or did the Wii version show them in cutscenes?

Edit: Ah okay, mischief managed.

This game is gonna be so easy on PC if the mouse aiming doesn't suck. I'm pretty excited to try it out tomorrow. Annoyed that GMG hasn't given me my key yet.

Well, this is the conclusion I came to as well after looking at YouTube videos.
Same goes for the HD collection, no cutscenes with those costumes.

No idea why there's people claiming otherwise.

Curious to see what most people will end up using, KB+Mouse or Controller. I still can't decide.

Been playing it for several weeks, and while my KB+M skills are pitiful I feel this may be a game best suited for a controller. Aiming is amazing of course. Dunno. Will be interesting to see the split!

I have taken Friday off, and I will be playing it right when it comes out until I pass out or go blind (there is precedent for that happening actually... when I played RE5...)

I will be trying to play in 3D on my HMZ, so I will let people know how that goes.

Never played RE4 with a mouse before so that's what I'll try out first. I'll end up replaying it probably 5 times so it's not like it matters to me though.

Is there a reason why most people seem like they'll be using a controller on this one? One of the huge advantages of this for me is the promise of mouse control, which should turn my shitty aiming into not-shitty aiming

I'll probably see what mouse and keyboard is like, but probably will just use my Xbox 360 controller anyways.

The weapon balance and aiming were built with analog sticks in mind.

Like how in RE4: Wii Edition they upped the enemy count because of how easy it is to headshot with the wiimote.
