I'm a Leon fan, and while I did like him this wasn't my favorite portrayal of him. The actor really did a good job on his take of Leon, but I just felt there were a few things in-game that didn't really match up with Leon's personality. Helena I kind of felt indifferent towards, she kind of seemed like a retake on that one character from Resident Evil Degeneration in many ways and just as I thought the dynamic between those two didn't really work, I didn't think it worked much here either. Unfortunately I thought they were the most boring pair of characters. I think part of this was their inherent lack of passion for any of the survivors they ran into, the fact they had virtually no character dynamic, and one of my favorite attributes of Leon (how he interacts with the bad guys) was severely underplayed in this game.
Simmons in general was underplayed. The little dialogue he had I actually liked, I also thought his actor was awesome, but he was underused. Felt he had so much more potential than what they used him for, and in the end made him fairly underwhelming. I was also disappointed in the lack Simmons and Leon had with one another despite both being at each others throat almost the whole game. Their personalities could of spewed some great dialogue that just never happened.
Counter to this, I actually ended up enjoying Chris and Piers dynamic more than I thought I would. I know some may disagree with this heavily, but I think Piers is the best partner Chris has ever had. While I like his partners characters stand-alone, I never really felt like Chris had any dynamic with any of the characters outside of Wesker and Rebecca. While he's worked with Jill, Sheva, and Jessica he never really seemed to form anything more than 'we're partners just because' with them. Piers actually seemed to be the first full-on partner that had more of a relationship with than 'just cause', Piers and Chris both actually helped one another grow, irked the other and even egged the other on in times they were down, but in the end they both seemed to completely trust one another and actually share something together.
I liked how their dynamic strengthens over the chapters and at the end I actually felt something for them both in their descent into the underwater facility and Pier's sacrifice.
Jake and Sherry were a joy. Yes, the idea of Wesker having a son is still a bit ridiculous and yes Jake in a lot of ways reminded me of Dante, but I have to admit I actually ended up liking him far more than I thought I would. This is in part because I feel he was one of the best written characters in the game, and Troy did a great job voicing him and giving him a lot of personality. I've always been curious on how Sherry was going to develop as a character after RE2, I actually legitimately felt bad for in RE2, and that was only strengthened in her Darkside Chronicles iteration. But it was nice to see that she was able to grow past her troubles in big thanks to the role models she had and they did a good job at giving her a sort of small-town girl feel but being dependent but appreciative of others. And of course, the dynamic of Jake and Sherry worked out very nicely. A guy who's bigger than life but doesn't really give a damn about anything, matched with a gal that is very down to Earth but has her priorities and way of life figured out and fairly stable.
Just did Chris 5 and Jake 5. Both are great, but I thought Chris 5 was superb. It contains a running sequence that's visually dazzling and legitimately fun and exciting, it has one of the coolest-looking boss creatures in series history, the boss battle itself works out brilliantly, and the ending was surprisingly emotional. The setting is gorgeous (love the patterns on the floor and windows, and the color scheme), and the chapter even starts off with plenty of cannon fodder combat so you can really push the mechanics.
I still have to do Leon 5, and then Ada's campaign. I've been chipping away slowly at the game. I played Mercs into the wee hours of the morning, unlocking alternate costumes. Question: Are the low-poly "classic" costumes available yet? How do I get them? How do I link to RE.net, for that matter?

Dont think so.
hit "auto upload..." in options it will give you a code for 360 or nothing on PS3, register on RE.net if your a 360 user it will ask for the code, PS3 players to sign in. done.
edit: beaten.
yeah its retroactive, might take some time though(day)
Hell of a way to spend Christmas. Capcom should make it up to us by releasing Christmas DLC where we play as Chris in a cheesy reindeer sweater and walk around with a glass of eggnog, and Jake and Sherry kiss under the mistletoe.
You can go into options and make sure you have the update stuff turned on... double check. But it's really just a waiting thing with RE.net.
You'll probably have a shitload of points when it finally updates. I warn you to spend them thoughtfully, because they take quite a while to build up again. Especially if you spend 'em all in one shot. It might be a week before you have enough to buy an alt costume again (60000).

Just finished all the campaigns. I have a sudden urge to replay RE4 now, but I'll get back into RE6 for the Mercenaries.
Big, big spoilers:
If Capcom releases long campaigns as DLC like these, they better go on with the Jake ending, that's the kind of DLC that I wouldn't hesitate to buy. Really.

Yeah you will have a crazy amount from your first playthrough but after those are gone it takes a good while to build back up no matter what your doing(Pro)
I really hope retro Sherry is actually little kid sized.

The only reason most of us got a lot of points the 1st time around was likely because RE.net gave us all a free 40,000 points just for signing up with the site. I know my points went straight up to 130,000 points after finishing on normal. 40,000 of those came from RE.net while the rest was my normal playthrough + a couple of mercs sessions.

probably alot though I agree with the people that think they will be rewards for contests.
I still have the unlikely wish that if they bring back old characters for mercs they would make new RE6 era alt costumes for them(I don't care what they'd charge)

Good impressions on the characters. I've been feeling that way about them all, too. Leon is definitely one of my favorite characters, but they really sort of screwed him up a bit in this. He doesn't seem as cool and confident as he was in RE4 and the movies. He makes some dumb decisions in RE6 and his jokes are a little off. I personally think it's kind of weird to make jokes like
"no one was driving the train. Zombie Express". People died man. PEOPLE DIED! =( lol.
And yeah him and Helena...it just feels like she's not really his partner but someone he's trying to help only because he wants some answers. She's not a bad looking character and she's fun to play as, but her character could've used some more work.
And man that Jake chapter 3 with the
tank busting through. I love the parts where the game slows down so you can have time to get your head around what's going on like "there's a tank, better get over here!". I was laughing so hard when I was running at an enemy coming down the stairs as the tank busted down the wall and I got a nice slow-mo shot of me jumping up and kneeing a J'avo in the face in front of the tank. XD
I wanna know how those Jake moves are being used. Is that purely hacking? Because I've seen Chris in his samurai costume do Jake's moves before but I can't in my game.
Jake chapter 2 emblem (I'm sure most can guess which...) is driving me nuts. And I activated the next checkpoint and finished the chapter, so now I have to replay. On my first playthrough I saw it but missed it. This time no matter what I could not find it.... UGH.
Every installed game I have spins for about a minute until they load into gameplay. Some weird ones like the first Ass Creed spin forever even when installed, some XBLA games make the disc in the drive spin for some reason... I have a slim from around Halo reach release.

So, was watching some Mercs gameplay (don't have the game yet), and it looked like enemies could attack and break you out of prompted melee animations. Am I seeing that right?

When you're going for a ground strike on a downed enemy sometimes yes, otherwise all the coup de gras make you invincible for the duration of the animation. Your partner, or even other enemies can break you out of grappling QTEs though.
Yeah, I was yelling at my TV screen at her because I was as fed up as Leon. It's like "Oh, you can't tell me STILL after we went through 4 or 5 messed up areas and saw chrysalid people?"
I thought it was odder/funnier when Chris out of the blue says to Jake
"Yo dawg, killed yo pa, it was fo biznez and personal," and Jake's all "Dad's a deadbeat and a madman, fucking hate him, but HOW DAREZ YOU, gunna busta cap in yo azz," and everyone's like "JERRY! JERRY! JERRY!"

Messing around with Helena on mercenaries, and she did a really cool looking trick shot with the hydra. Instead of her usual dive/leg split slide and shoot she shot at a zombie directly behind/above her.
She basically put the hydra below the zombie's chin after her usual quick shot dive.
