This is my first time playing through REmake, and despite avoiding zombies whenever possible I still find myself completely out of ammo for both my pistol and shotgun. What's a guy to do? I don't want to have to reload an old save and lose all this progress, but I'm starting to get the feeling that I'm screwed going forward.

so what did you do with all your ammo?
or didn't you find any yet?

Completed my first playthrough yesterday with Jill, 12 hours lol. I took my time and soaked it in though and made a few mistakes requiring a decent amount of backtracking. Never played the REmake only the original. Loved it.

While I'd like to plat it, some of the trophies just seem a PITA. I'll do my Chris run soon and try to aim for a few hours for the rocket launcher unlock.

A modern day remake of 2 and 3 would be glorious, but I doubt it'll happen (require more work than this).

That happens on every difficulty. I think the only way you can make the scene not trigger if you go there late in the game.

If you meet him in the main hall where he gives you the acid rounds that is what stops the trigger for him saving you.

I ended up using most of it on this two-dog ambush a while back. Unfortunately, I saved after that not realizing just how scarce ammo was going to be in this game. I really don't want to have to start completely over, so I'm just gonna try my luck with the knife until I find more ammo.

Oh, and I'm currently in the medical supply room (with the typewriter and item box), and there are like three live zombies all around that area. God help me.

I'm currently on my first play through as well. I had ammo issues fairly early on due to wasting ammo missing shots, killing birds, or shooting things that can't be killed.

Now, about 8 hours in, I have a surplus of ammo. As long as you're more careful going forward, as I'm sure you will be, you'll be fine.

Real Survivor turned out to be pretty doable. I didn't even have to reload a save, never died. I honestly feel Real Survivor is the most complete RE experience, with all the planning, creating beelines, etc.

Then I decided I'd try a no-save speedrun with Jill on Normal. After 2 hours, a fucking hunter just killed me in the caves. I'm gutted.

I just finished my second playthrough with Chris on normal. Although I improved my play time considerably compared to the 10h mark I had done with Jill on easy, I still missed the 5-hour achievement. :(

Guess I'll have to watch some speedruns on Youtube to finish the game under the 3 hours mark.

If you have an unmodded PS3, there's no chance. If you do have one, it is possible if it's possible to modify PS3's memory. Either way, it wouldn't be easy.

Modded ps3. Is there any particular files that should be edited? There are more than 8000 files in various directories. PM me if you can at least give a hint.

I wish I could see your face when you see crimson heads for the first time. Yeah, keep stabbing those zombies. That'll work out great.

What did you do with your shotgun ammo? Couldn't have used it on the dogs as they would die from 1-2 hits.

Just beat it! It was not a good run. 12.5 hours and 38 saves for Chris. It was fun as hell though. I'll be starting over for sure. I look forward to jills inventory space. I did so much backtracking when I didn't know what I needed going forward.

Just gotta remember which things can be skipped/saved for a later more convenient time, aka doing multiple things in one spot rather than going back and forth a few times. Especially the enemies.

Invisible mode has been a bit of a pain due to my ink hoarding habit. No matter, I'll save as ofter as needed from now on.
Does Barry only save you from the Shotgun room on Easy?
He saves you if you haven't had any other Barry cut scenes yet

Having played through on PS3 and PS4, Really good. the difference is 1080p/720p and character model res is up'ed on new gen.

I didn't see it in the OP but isn't it a cross buy between PS4 and PS3? I bought the PS4 version and was checking the trophies and noticed it had a PS4/PS3 icon next to it similar to other vita/ps4 cross play games.

I beat the game for the first time ever a few days ago, previously my only experience with RE1 was about an hour on the PS1 original. Took almost exactly 12 hours on Easy with Jill. Although I did get the Every Nook and Cranny trophy for getting 100% in every room.

The only bit I had to look up online to work out what to do was
pushing the control terminal into the water to electrocute Neptune
.

Now onto a Chris playthrough on Normal.

My advice is to write notes on a PC/tablet/phone as you're playing (or watching a speedrun) to figure out the fastest way of doing everything. For Jill, mine went something like this:
Dining Room -> Kenneth Hall -> Dining Room -> Main Hall (run anti-clockwise around back of staircase to quickly trigger cutscene)
Dining Room -> Kenneth Hall -> Crow Stairs -> Arrow Hall -> 2F Dining Room -> Main Hall -> Graveyard (use arrowhead, get Sword Key)
Main Hall -> Statue Room -> Dog Hall -> Shotgun Hall -> Patio (get Pesticide)
Shotgun Hall -> Backdoor Hall -> East Stairs -> U Hall -> Study (get whistle)
U Hall -> Main Hall -> 2F Dining Room -> West Stairs -> Dog Balcony (use whistle, get fake key)

And so on. Doing that will make sure you know the most efficient way of getting through the game and it's not so specific that you can't quickly plan out little detours to get extra items/weapons/ammo (like after the pesticide, you can get a dagger from the bathroom and a shotgun from the shotgun room).

Following my notes, I got my time down to 2:30 on my Real Survivor run and I would've shaved another 10 minutes off that if I hadn't made one annoying screw up. I'd forgotten to pick the battery up, even though I'd gone into that storage room and made space for it (after trying to pick it up and finding out my inventory was full).

I finally started a Real Survivor Jill playthrough, that won't end well.
I'm already scratching my head and trying to figure out what item I'll need where and when. My biggest early game worry right now is managing the death masks. I guess I'll do it in one go and mess that doorknob.

I'm not great at dodging zombies and the only ammo I've used so far was for the dog whistle, so that's challenging too (I'm out of healing items).

I guess the easiest path for Jill would be the following, right?
- Do the Jill sandwich
- Go back to get the acid rounds from Barry
- Save Richard and have Yawn kill him to get the assault shotgun. Meaning the regular shotgun is free rounds up to that point
- Get the wind crest to get Jill's magnum
- Synthesize V-Jolt
- Keep Barry's magnum
- Don't save Chris

Yeah, I'm trying to plan ahead.

For what it's worth I did my real survivor Jill play through a day or two ago and there really wasn't that much planning involved.. When I started the game I started listing what I had in each mansion box but quickly stopped bothering. The only things I think I kept track off was where the lighter was early on. I missed saving Richard after running to the serum room, actually forgetting to get the serum and running all the way back so I didn't get the assault shotgun either. You don't need to fight yawn in the first encounter regardless, just run around it and grab the mask.

Oh the only bit of forward planning I did was after using the crank for the first time I went back into the mansion and deposited the crank in there so I had access to it later for the waterfall. I believe I did a separate trip to get the magnum after doing plant 42, as its really not necessary in the guardhouse.

That's what I'm doing.

I'll print the mansion maps and keep notes for the most efficient way to collect/use the items. The mansion is the most likely place to screw up things.

Yeah, I overestimated the amount of necessary planning and it went very smoothly.
As I mentioned in my other post, I tremendously enjoyed Real Survivor as it forces you to play with a lean inventory, which in turn means you have to evaluate more strictly what is really necessary. Turns out, there's not much that is very necessary.

Typically, I only used the handgun after using the dog whistle. I kept it for a bit afterwards but really, I could have dumped it right after that.
The shotgun -> assault shotgun thing is great too as with 6 'free' rounds, I cleaned the U shaped eastern 2F corridor, the stairs near the eastern saveroom and that zombie at the top of the western 2F stairs. Basically, the 4-5 zombies I'll run into the most.
It will sound obvious but my biggest realization was that most of the time, I didn't need weapons, even though that's a bit less true post residence.

Edit: one thing blew my mind: I didn't push the statue to get the blue jewel (I usually do) and when I came back to the mansion, I eventually found it broken, as if I had pushed it myself.

That's what I'm doing.

Cool. Here's a couple of other little bits of advice as well:
1) While getting the serum for Richard, you have a decent amount of time, so you can grab the serum, enter the next hall and kill the plant with the pesticide before heading back to Richard.
2) You can skip the first Yawn fight and Black Tiger Spider pretty easily. If you're playing as Jill and saved Richard, grab the mask and just run around the room until Richard's eaten, then you can grab the Assault Shotgun and exit. For the Black Tiger, grab the knife out of the item box beforehand and after entering the room, run straight to the door and cut the web around the door. The Black Tiger method obviously doesn't work on Real Survivor but it's great for all the other difficulties.
3) Kill zombies in the lab and forget about them. I've never had them turn into crimson heads on me.

Yeah, I overestimated the amount of necessary planning and it went very smoothly.

Yeah, I found the same things true for me, though I did things a little differently. You get the canteen in the East Save Room, so it's fairly convenient at that point and can be ditched in the Medical Room box a little later on. So I cleared the East Stairs and U Hall with my handgun and then used the canteen to burn them. Then I used the 6 shotgun shots to clear the West Stairs and quickly kill the dog with the collar. After that, I really didn't need to carry any guns until I had all four masks together.

When I came back to the mansion, I think I ended up clearing the East Stairs and 2F Dining Room of hunters with the magnum and that was pretty much it. The only other enemies I killed in the game were the necessary ones (bosses, bees, etc.), one chimera in the lab (you know the one) and all the zombies in the Lab (I had so much ammo left over that I decided to have some fun).

I'm still on the fence about buying this. I'm pretty much completely new to the original RE formula (save for about an hour or two in RE3), and I'm not sure if Remake is worth the $20. How much does it have in the way of replay value?

IMO it has great replay value as long as you don't use a guide. If you take your time on your first playthrough, you'll end up mostly memorizing the layouts. So then you'll want to play again since each character's path is slightly different. And then you may want to play more to get the cool unlocks. Your first run could take 12+ hours if you play it legit. Then it'll get quicker and quicker after that.

It's a really fun game, but if you go in and just use a guide, I don't think you'll get much out of it. You'll just be following a script. I guess I would feel that way of any game, but this one especially is all about figuring the craziness out on your own.

Sounds pretty good to me. I like having a decent amount of things to unlock. And I'm not going to use a guide unless I absolutely can't find a way to progress.

Yeah, Resident Evil 1 is really good. I just went through the Remaster as Jill (her playthrough is a bit harder then Chris, she has less health). Still just as good as ever and can be pretty difficult (on Normal difficulty, hardest one available as Jill). For people new to Resident Evil, especially the first, the puzzles can become a bit of a head scratcher (especially later in the game).

Always check every room thoroughly, ammo and herbs are essential... ammo especially as it scarce.

^And always examine items.

There were a couple times when I got stuck simply because I didn't search one side of the room, or because being 1mm away from an item while mashing the X button wasn't enough to activate whatever was supposed to happen. And of course there were a few times when I didn't examine an item.

But if you just try everything, you'll be fine.

It's easily one of my favorite games ever. Played it over and over back on the GameCube. So happy to see it again. Worth $20 for sure.

Yup, forgot about mentioning that. Plenty of puzzle items require you to examine them.

You can't do it via file modding (not as I know anyway), you have to do it via memory editing.

Well i played the imported version on PS3 last year, and on PS4 when it launched. When i got it for PS4 launch day, it came with PS3/PS4 copies... but i thought i read it was crossbuy only if preordered, but idk, i didnt preorder and got both.

I need a hint, kinda stuck.

I just defeated the coffin zombie, headed into the woods and got the crank from the cabin and ran away, lol. I used the crank, but need a battery for the elevator I guess. Do I needto head back into the mansion? I have no keys to unlock doors, so I'm not sure where I should be headed.

You should make a left at the waterfall to go to the Residence. The battery part comes later after your return to the mansion.
