I need a hint, kinda stuck.

I just defeated the coffin zombie, headed into the woods and got the crank from the cabin and ran away, lol. I used the crank, but need a battery for the elevator I guess. Do I needto head back into the mansion? I have no keys to unlock doors, so I'm not sure where I should be headed.
Dont need the battery yet...explore the other gate in that same area.

Thinks buying more servers can fix a bad patch
I have a technical issue running this game on STEAM

D69MHBj.png

it seems the game is running in the taskbar preview, and there's sounds, but it is not displaying on the main screen. can anyone help?

i tried right-clicking on the taskbar preview and click on bhd.exe but that doesnt solve anything
it was fine when i played it yesterday in windowed mode.

Cool. Here's a couple of other little bits of advice as well:
1) While getting the serum for Richard, you have a decent amount of time, so you can grab the serum, enter the next hall and kill the plant with the pesticide before heading back to Richard.
2) You can skip the first Yawn fight and Black Tiger Spider pretty easily. If you're playing as Jill and saved Richard, grab the mask and just run around the room until Richard's eaten, then you can grab the Assault Shotgun and exit. For the Black Tiger, grab the knife out of the item box beforehand and after entering the room, run straight to the door and cut the web around the door. The Black Tiger method obviously doesn't work on Real Survivor but it's great for all the other difficulties.
3) Kill zombies in the lab and forget about them. I've never had them turn into crimson heads on me.

Here is a pretty good checklist if you're doing a speedrun.

MANSION (First Visit)
- Find Kenneth
- Return to MAIN HALL
- Get ARROW; examine for ARROWHEAD
- Use ARROWHEAD in GRAVEYARD

- Get ARMOR KEY using IMITIATION KEY
- Use CHEMICAL in PLANT ROOM; get DEATH MASK 1
Get GRENADE LAUNCHER from TERRACE (ignore HERBS)
- Pass Richard to the DARK ROOM (retrieve SERUM from MEDICAL ROOM to save him if playing as Chris; optional if playing as Jill); get MUSIC NOTES
- Get CREST
- Combine MUSIC and MUSIC NOTES; replace GOLD CREST with CREST
- Get SHIELD KEY using GOLD CREST
- Get DEATH MASK 2 in SNAKE ROOM
- CHRIS ONLY: Get OLD KEY 4 from KEEPER'S BEDROOM
- Get DEATH MASK 3 in ARMORY
- Get DEATH MASK 4 in PICTURE ROOM (unlock gate to GRAVEYARD using OLD KEY 4 if playing as Chris)

- Use INSECTICIDE on WASP NEST; get ROOM 003 KEY
- Get WHITE BOOK; solve book spine puzzle
- Defeat PLANT 42 using FLAME ROUNDS as Jill or ASSAULT SHOTGUN as Chris (if Richard was not saved with the SERUM, time will be wasted creating the V-Jolt if playing as Chris); get HELMET KEY

Mansion (Second Visit)
- Get JEWELLERY BOX in ART GALLERY
- Get RED GEM
- Use RED GEM on JEWELLERY BOX for BROACH; examine for EMBLEM KEY
- Defeat YAWN in LIBRARY; examine BLUE BOOK for MEDAL OF EAGLE

- Use BATTERY on broken elevator in COURTYARD

The Catacombs
- Get HEXAGONAL CRANK from Enrico
- Skip BLACK TIGER fight
- Get CYLINDER
- Combine CYLINDER and SHAFT; use code 4231
- Use ELEVATOR
- Enter LISA CORRIDORS; send off the BOX
- Return to ELEVATOR ROOM and get BROKEN FLAMETHROWER
- Use BROKEN FLAMETHROWER to unlock door
- Get STONE OBJECT from JEWELLERY BOX; combine with METAL OBJECT to get STONE AND METAL OBJECT 2
- Get STONE AND METAL OBJECT 1 from COURTYARD; use both to enter ALTAR

ALTAR and UNDERGROUND LABORATORY
-Let Barry die to get BARRY'S MAGNUM
- Use MEDAL OF EAGLE and MEDAL OF WOLF to enter UNDERGROUND LABORATORY

- Get MASTER KEY from Wesker
- Return to UNDERGROUND LABORATORY ENTRANCE and use MASTER KEY
- Get FUSE UNIT and use on ELEVATOR
- Get SIGNAL ROCKETS and use them immediately

END

This is great advice. I'll start my speedrun soon.

Seeing that list, I wonder what the most efficient early game is with Jill:

Get sword key -> Do eastern 1F to get the chemical and shotgun -> get back to the main hall to get acid rounds -> proceed to eastern 2F to get the lighter and dog whistle (and dumping your shit in the save room on the way)

Or don't go back to the main hall for these rounds and proceed from the shotgun to the eastern save room to eastern 2F to grab the shit there.

I just realized yesterday hanging onto the sword key to open the kitchen is utterly useless. I usually open it when I do the piano room but right now, I'm thinking I should just dump they key once I've opened every other door.

Just tell how you did it. If I manage it on PS3, all credits to you obviously. You also made it on 360/Wii? Should not be harder on PS3.

The GC/Wii version works differently as the door loading code is not the same. I'll explain how I made the 360 version and the initial PC version of the door skip mod: there's a 4 byte integer in memory which is 2 when you're in a room, and 1 if you're in the middle of a door animation (emphasis on middle, it's different at the very start and end of the animation).

So there's 2 ways you can modify it. Continously poke the memory address with 3 to make it skip door animations (3 indicates door animation is ending). Or find the code which updates the value to 0, and change the code to update the value to 3 instead.

Just beat it with saving everyone. Its been fun but I can understand the change of direction this series took. This formula was becoming stale with Zero and while its still fun I was sometimes bored by the endless backtracking and item management. I think RE4's formula has been the most fun and replayable so they made the right choice.

While the defense items are a good addition, I think RE3 nailed the tank controls. The evasive move was really great, i sort of missed that.

FYI you don't have to go into the Kenneth Hall in the beginning of the game as Jill. When you gain control of her, go back to the main hall, then try the hall again (won't let you), and then walk up to Barry as normal. Lastly, walk towards the clock, watch the cutscene, and return to Wesker as usual.
It's not a huge time saver or anything like that, I just noticed no one has mentioned it as an option.

Final results. Steam says I played 17 hours, though, which means I spent 10 (10?!?!) hours from losing progress or restarting or something. Does anybody know how the final time is calculated - is it like Platinum games where cutscenes, map/inventory time don't matter, or did I really lose 10 hours of progress throughout my playthrough?

In-game time counts everything (map screen, inventory, pause menu) EXCEPT the time when you died/reloaded. So yeah, you lost 10 hours although I guess some of that might be spent idling in the main menu or something.

I see. Well, I ended the game with 7 ink ribbons, 6 full heals, 22 shotgun rounds, 30 handgun rounds, ~12 grenade rounds (all types), and 6 defense items.

...I probably should've just healed and saved more.

I'm still on the fence about buying this. I'm pretty much completely new to the original RE formula (save for about an hour or two in RE3), and I'm not sure if Remake is worth the $20. How much does it have in the way of replay value?

I'm playing this game for the 3rd time... after beating it on PS1 back in the day, then REmake on gamecube and now the HD Remaster. It's one of my favorite games of all time and there's so much I forgot in this game that it feels like refreshing experience, so I thought it was fully worth the $20. If I was new to this I would not even think twice before buying it. They don't make games like this anymore. If you like the original RE formula, and enjoyed what you played in RE3, then you owe it to yourself to try this out... this game is the truth.

Sounds complicated.. There is only flash memory and hdd contents available. Anyway thanks for the tip.
I don't understand why capcom made such shitty ports on all consoles and only PC version has the best graphics, fastest loading times and 60fps. 13 year old game.. pathetic.

Finished my first time through as Jill the other night. My final time was something like 14:26. I didn't use a guide for anything as far as locations went, never played through the game completely on the 'Cube or Wii re-release either.

Started my first-ever Chris play-through the next night. Even though I owned the original on the PSOne and played through it several times as Jill, I actually never got through as Chris; never tried. So it's going to be an adventure!

I love the subtle animation changes. Playing as Jill, when a zombie gets closer she takes a hand off her guns and puts her arms back in horror. That little detail makes it so good.

Yeah my first run in this game was the first time in my life that I ever used Chris in RE1. I ended up liking it a lot but there sure was a lot of inventory management since I didn't know what I was doing.

Can I use the rockets in invisible mode?
I couldn't earlier today. I started an Invisible mode right after my speedrun where I unlocked the rocket launcher and it wasn't there. I double checked and started a regular Once Again game and it was there.
Invisible on very easy is still a cake walk though.

Finished up my Invisible Mode hard run(over 3 hours). Used Jill and got the bad ending. Still missing Knife run, nook and cranny, and no saves. I don't think I've gotten as much satisfaction from replaying a game so much since Resident Evil 2.

So, one of the typewriter rooms is still lit red on the map for me, but I don't see any items in it. It's the one on the right side of the 1F map. Is it because of the can of kerosene that's not empty yet? I don't think it is, because there's another room where there's kerosene and it's not lit red on the map. I think I'm missing something.

Finished up Real Survival.

Think I've got 3 runs left in me to platinum.

- Chris/Normal : I need to fulfil his side of the story (the rescues etc). Also want to wrap up all weapons, all costumes and Every Nook and Cranny by doing this run.
- Jill/No Saves : I could have stacked this with something else, but would prefer not to risk mistakes or cheap silly deaths. Using the infinite launcher should make this a cake walk well under 3 hours.
- Jill/Invisible Enemy : I know Jill's run the best by now. Also, I didn't realise you could play this mode on Very Easy. Should be a breeze?

i think Barry drops some ammo off there later on, that might count. Either that or you're missing an item.

Ha, turns out there was just a handgun round laying in the middle of the floor, kinda blending in with it. I'm an idiot.

Honestly, the red/green/100% on the map is pretty useful given that sometimes items are pretty hard to see, same with the doors, there's several of them that I didn't even realize were doors until I looked at the map.

Getting about done with the game. Hit the last area. Man, I forgot how miserable a life
Lisa had.
The music for that boss is so creepy.

First jill playthrough for good ending and nook and cranny took me 7 hours 50. Second playthrough with Chris good ending no save speed run

Is it doable to play as chris on very easy, with only a knife and under 3 hours?
It is possible. I did my knife run with Chris on Very Easy. I didn't go specifically go for a speed run, but I still beat it at slightly past 4 hours.

Just do a speed run with Jill on Normal. She's a one-girl zombie wrecking ball.

Finally beat this for the first time ever tonight. I think on the NGC version I got past the death mask boss, so the later half of the game was all brand new for me, I really enjoyed it.

My stats were pretty funny comparing them to some in here, I saved like 30 times because I hate losing progress due to a death, but ended up only dying twice anyways. Once to a boulder & once to Lisa during the first encounter, lol. I don't recall so many supplies on the NGC version, I felt like that was why I never beat it, I always got stuck some where with no weapon or healing, but I had large amounts of everything left at the end of this. Guess I've just become more careful in old age.

I can still vividly remember getting stuck in a room in Code Veronica where a Hunter burst through a window and I had nothing but a knife, and no back up saves as a kid, never touched it again, hah.

I just have to finish that invisible run to get every trophy in the game. It will have been a great ride and despite playing every version so far numerous times, I feel this is the time I've mastered the game the most. The core game is so solid and tightly designed that it still feels very current.
I'm in the mood for some more classic RE. Would CV be a good choice next? I remember disliking it on PS2 as it never clicked with me and I felt out of my depth most of the time, while the game felt tedious.

I'll second that. Also, if people are doing speed runs fo trophies, they should do them on Normal anyway: doing them on Very Easy will unlock the 3 hours / 5 hours trophies but won't unlock Samurai Edge or the Rocket Launcher, which are part of the weapons trophy.

Once you get a good grasp of how the story flows, a Normal Jill speed run is pretty easy, particularly if you take advantage of all the events that make the game shorter or easier.

As a fan of old-school RE, I love it. It's very heavy on backtracking, but it's some of the best backtracking ever seen in a game imo. It's very satisfying to turn such a complex environmental puzzle (and one that literally re-orients itself halfway through) into a streamlined, economical sprint. It's also one of the more interesting games in the series from a story point of view.

I don't think they've ever been as dangerous as they are in Remaster, actually.

REmake/REmaster dogs aren't really much imo. They're very hard to avoid/shoot reliably, yes, but they take off almost zero health. Dogs in the old RE games are easier to kill, but can bully in you packs very easily if you're not careful.

What is wrong with this game ? When i want to play it, it loads for a loooong time on PS4...
Is it loading save from cloud or what ? Annoying...

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?

The rebuild database thread might be useful for you if it happens all the time.

The PS4 savesystem API is still pretty annoying (you see a loading bar instead of the black screen as intended), but not as slow as PS3 at least.

This game (mechanics) really hasn't aged well, no hot swapping of weapons or reload outside of a menu is a chore. Heck, even pressing A to select combine and then selecting the weapon is a mission, what's wrong with pressing X to select and combine.

I wish they would have added a few modern flourishes (opinial, of course) to the modern control scheme. Aiming just feels dumb, either shoot the floor, ceiling or anywhere in front.

I'd have been very happy with classic and RE5 controls.

I'm currently stuck with a full inventory and no sure where to go, got killed with a spinning spike shield. Enjoying the game but controls just feel wrong in 2015.
