You know that you have to activate the Missions after completion, right? Check your Missions, there should be new chars and costumes by now.

Thank you so much! I'm such an idiot, never noticed the second page in the Missions menu until now :)

By the way my friend code is 2406-5147-3160, ready to hit the trenches!

How is this supposed to make sense? RE4 didn't use twin stick aiming. But it's Giantbomb and sometimes their lack of "expert knowledge" is mindblowing.

They didn't say this. They said closer to RE5's default dual stick controls, and the conceded it had been a while. :|

I posted my impressions of the CPP on the last page and I think it's very counterproductive. At least in RE:R. Every button and the touchscreen feel like they are a little more out of reach and it's just not very comfortable to hold in your hands. And the game is clearly balanced for control-schemes that don't use a second analog stick, so that wont be a problem.

I can't agree with that at all. I don't even have huge hands, but the CPP makes the 3DS feel so much more comfortable to me. I actually started playing other games with it too, even though that means that I have to awkwardly use the real R-button somehow.

I would even go as far as saying that I prefer the slide pad layout of the CPP over the classic dual stick layout on a normal controller. I love that I can just comfortably rest my right thumb on the slide pad instead of having to move the thumb down a little uncomfortably to grab the stick.

I still can touch the face buttons just fine, and in the case of RE:R the only buttons that are being used frequently are the shoulder buttons.

Sounds intense. I guess I'd be better off going for a no-damage run or something.
Do you not get a stronger knife later?

No, but there is an achievement for finishing the game without healing once. (and I guess you also have to get an S rank for that achievement as well)

I personally don't think I could do that.

Probably not the best place to ask, but is Nintendo shipping out a lot of those Circle Pad Pros to GameStop? I plan on picking one up tomorrow night after work and I'm just wondering if anyone would happen to know what sort of quantities these things are shipping out in.

I'd say there are more than enough right now as RE:R is the only game that supports it right now.

That's true, but that might be a good reason to under ship since there is only one game that uses it. I haven't read anything about small amounts being shipped to stores or anything like that so I'm not worried about getting one. Just curious.

In Australia, at least, most stores got very, very few copies or Revelations and even fewer of the CCP. A Mature game on 3DS is a risky proposition to retailers.

Nakanishi - What kicked off Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D was we needed to actually run a game on a Nintendo 3DS system, so we took Resident Evil 5 and ran it on a Nintendo 3DS, and the impact it made was more than we had imagined.

Kawata - Then we thought, "We can make this into a product." The difficulties of moving this forwards as its own project aside, there was reason to make it just in terms of experience. In regards to the controls, we were able to make changes to Mercenaries and finish Revealations looking at the players' feedback. And by making Mercenaries first, I feel like we were able to determine the capabilities of Nintendo 3DS. In terms of it being a developmental challenge, I would say that Mercenaries is the one that's really pushing it hardware-wise.

Toys R Us includes a $10 gift card with Resident Evil Revelations.
I don't know how many $10 gift card offers I've missed from TRS. And considering I have a Best Buy $25 gift card (with only 19.70 left), I still feel I'm better of with my current preorder.

I was waiting for Jessica to wear that outfit (cleavage suit) she wore in one of the trailers that came out in 2011. It never happened, thumbs down for that.

Also, those god awful loading segments in the lifts/doors are so bad and laggy.

EDIT: Thank God they did a re-design on Jessica, she looks so bad in that trailer.

Hey, this is actually my first post here, but my account got validated at the perfect time considering this game comes out tomorrow and I'll need some people to play with. Add me 4682-8480-9046, name is Jeff on the 3ds

Thats not Jessica, thats Rachel.
she is the girl that gets killed by bows in the first episode of the game, and that later appears as a repeat and awesome boss

That's the fundamental issue with shoehorning a big, console-style game like Resident Evil into a form factor the size of the 3DS. You just can't get a game that plays as well or makes as big a visual impact as it would on a big TV, and if you start bolting peripherals onto the system to alleviate those problems, you start to negate what makes the system elegant in the first place. Revelations could have mitigated the effects of its limitations with a more memorable story and more appealing (and maybe more familiar) characters, but the game doesn't deliver enough on any one level to make it easily recommendable if you aren't a diehard fan. Revelations isn't exactly a bad Resident Evil game, but the series has certainly seen better.

Lulz. So what, is not in console so it doesnt impact and its not as good. Yeah right. Giantbomb can do great lets plays, but reviewing they are shit.
Also, now are reviewers defending that the 3DS confortable and elegant in design? WTF

I think you misunderstand me. I've never said anything about then not acknowledging promotions. Rather it's the fact that I have $10 off a future TRS purchase versus $25 off the current one thanks to my gift card.
Same guy reviewed RE5 with a 5/5. I am not able to put my comment about this into comprehensible, non-insulting words.
The guys at RadioFreeNintendo seem to think the same thing, and they too only got into RE because of 4. Do these guys hate REmake or something?

I'm going to go on to say there are now two camps of RE fans: pre-RE4 (puzzle horror) and post-RE4 (militarism). People who did not enjoy the games prior to 4 will find RE:R's attempt to be offputing, while those who loved REmake and the rest will appriciate the attempt, and probably argue that it did not conentrate hard enough on the horror aspect as they wanted because of the militarism. It's sad that so many post-militarism RE fans can't appreciate pre-RE4 games, while most traditional RE fans can appreciate what RE4 did to reinvigorate the franchise (psst: Check out the recent Retronauts episodes dealing with the subject matter).

Also I have no trouble with gyro aiming setup. I find it quicker and I don't suffer from any non-focusing, even at fully blast 3D.

I got into Resi Via 4, but I love RE:R, to me the RE 1 was not my cup of Tea, RE:R is....

it's a great start to the 3DS in 2012...cannot wait until a Sequel is announced

Have you played REmake/REmake Archives for Cube/Wii? I highly recommend it as a starting point. (It was for me.)

RE0 is okay but RE2 for N64 perhaps is better since it has the option for you to ditch tank controls!

Oh yeh! Damn, that explains some questions I had about the story! Thanks man.

So how scary is the game, really? Which REs is it scarier than, and which is it less scary than?

If you find it less scary, would you attribute this to the portable nature of the game, being unable to be scared when the screen's so small, with or without headphones?

Or would a lack of scares be more because the game just wasn't designed with that many scary bits?

How many jump scares does it have, vs. how many "shit shit shit I have no bullets left RUN" scares, vs. creeping horror/dread scares?

The Fuck? 3? And Brad gave 5 a 5!?

Whut? I enjoyed 5. Well, It was ok, the AI partner being dumb as shit annoyed me and hampered my enjoyment plus the fact it was not in the least bit scary or creepy. This game though, it's great. And I don't mean 'great for a handheld' (which to be honest though it really is).

I'd give this 4 stars (well, I am when I've written my review) and would give 5 a 3. 5 was good but had plenty of flaws which I think revelations fixes. The AI doesn't get in the way, is a lot more resilient and doesn't need you to escort it and this game is actually creepy and scary in some places (not many yeah and some of the scares were jump scares from enemies but still more than RE5).

I do kinda understand that score better though if played without the CPP or taking into account you kinda need one to play the game at its best.

I guess I'm more annoyed with Brad giving RE5 a 5 and this a 3 than I would be if I didn't know he gave RE5 a 5.

In the demo, you could move and shoot with gyroscope aiming. Is it not possible in the final retail version? I ask because the reviewer mentions you can't move and shoot... Tomorrow can't come soon enough.

Brad said on the bombcast that there were gyro controls but he didn't use them because he had 3D on

So that extensive bit of CGI involving Rachel getting attacked and killed isn't shown in the game? Shame, would've been neat to see... her in 3D.

Also, I appreciate all REs, but I could never wrap my head around the controls for REs before RE4. Revelations seems like a good balance of old-school atmosphere and new-school playability, though. :)

Without the peripheral you play it just like how you would play RE4 and RE5. I don't know what he's talking about saying that you need a clunky peripheral to play it like console RE's.

In the demo, you could move and shoot with gyroscope aiming. Is it not possible in the final retail version? I ask because the reviewer mentions you can't move and shoot... Tomorrow can't come soon enough.

You could move and shoot even without gyro aiming in the demo. Others have confirmed that moving and shooting is still in. Using Type A controls I just had to hold down L and R to move while shooting.

Brad said on the bombcast that there were gyro controls but he didn't use them because he had 3D on

I used gyro controls with 3D on in the demo. It worked much better than I expected. The way Capcom designed the gyro controls is rather clever, and it's much better than the other games I've played that use gyro controls. Revelations allows you to aim with very small movements; vertical control is handled as you expect, while horizontal aiming is handled by moving the 3DS like a steering wheel. I know how stupid that sounds, but the movements required are tiny enough that it quickly becomes second nature. So yes, you can play with the gyro and 3D on without spinning around in a chair like an asshole. That said, I'll be playing the actual game playing with the gyro controls and no 3D because the game looks substantially better without it.
